Ram Rahim Singh Indian guru convicted of rape

A court in the north Indian city of Panchkula has convicted a flamboyant Indian spiritual leader of raping two of his female followers, sparking clashes between police and tens of thousands of his followers.

The Indian army was deployed in the city shortly after the court pronounced Ram Rahim Singh guilty of sexual assault. The self-styled “godman” has been taken into custody and will reportedly be flown by helicopter to a jail in Haryana state before sentencing on Monday.

Singh, one of the most powerful men in India, runs the 69-year-old from its ashram headquarters on a sprawling, 1,000-acre Haryana property that boasts its own hotel, cinema, cricket stadium and schools.

4th LD) Samsung heir Lee sentenced to 5 years in prison

Source: Yonhap News Korea

SEOUL, Aug. 25 (Yonhap) -- A Seoul court sentenced Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong to five years in prison Friday, finding him guilty of bribery, embezzlement and other charges in a massive corruption scandal that led to the ouster of former President Park Geun-hye.

The Seoul Central District Court handed down the verdict, convicting Lee of involvement in Samsung's provision of 7.2 billion won (US$6.38 million) in bribes for the equestrian training of the daughter of Park's longtime friend and confidante Choi Soon-sil.

snip

"The crux of this case is close collusion between political and capital powers," the court said in the verdict. "It appears to be difficult for the people to recover from disappointment in that collusive ties between the president and a large conglomerate existed not in the past, but in the present."

snip

The verdict represents one of the heaviest ever to be handed out to the head of a major conglomerate in South Korea. It is expected to deal a blow to the image of the global electronics giant amid a prolonged leadership vacuum.

It's about time these self-important, pampered Korean executives begin to feel the pain
Fortunately, Moon Jae-in will be president for five years, so there's almost no chance he will receive a presidential pardon like so many of these execs have in the past
The level of crying by other members of the Chaebol (major family owned corporations in Korea) is like sweet music.

Tucker Carlson Definition of Sycophant, Suck Up and Loser

"Even the president saw [the eclipse], but in a move that is not a complete surprise, he looked at the sun without any glasses, perhaps the most impressive thing any president has done."

Yes, more impressive than oh... say
John Adams negotiating a peace with France while the hawks screamed for War
Abraham Lincoln presiding over the Civil War
Theodore Roosevelt breaking up monopolies
Woodrow Wilson and WW I
Franklin D Roosevelt dealing with the Depression, the archaic positions of the then US Supreme Court and WW II
Richard Nixon negotiating with China
Ronald Reagan meeting with Gorbachev
and so on and so on and so on

Why no statue to this Confederate General William Mahone?

Though there is a monument to the victory at Crater Battlefield in Petersburg

The man that General Robert E Lee contemplated as his successor. A man he thought, "had developed the highest qualities for command."
Mahone was a slave owner and a vocal secessionist. After a huge mine explosion under confederate troops at Petersburg, he rallied his troops in a counter-attack that routed the American (Union) army.

Why not Mahone?
It probably wasn't his merging of three railroad lines into one: The AM&O (Atlantic, Mississippi & Ohio)
I'm certain it had nothing to do with race

William Mahone after the war
He was involved in railroads as I said.
But he was also a key figure in The Readjuster Party of Virginia.
What was the Readjuster party you may ask.

The Readjuster Party was a political biracial coalition formed in Virginia in the late 1870s. Readjusters aspired "to break the power of wealth and established privilege" among the planter elite of white men in the state and to promote public education. Their program attracted biracial support.

The party was led by attorney Harrison H. Riddleberger , and William Mahone. Mahone was a major force in Virginia politics from around 1870 until 1883, when the Readjusters lost control to white Democrats.
The Readjusters have been called the most successful interracial political alliance in the post-emancipation South.
In the four years that they governed the state the Readjusters promoted citizenship for blacks, supported black suffrage, office holding and jury duty. They banned the chain gang and the whipping post. They separated paying the school tax from the suffrage, allowing the poorest voters in Virginia the ability to vote. In cities with governments run by Readjusters they paved streets and modernized water systems.

Mahone was elected to the US Senate from the Readjuster Party

Why doesn't he have a statue?
Now you knw

And to make sure the Readjuster Party never got a foothold again, the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities labeled Readjusters as mob rule (Mobocracy)
While African American congressman John M. Langston has compared Mahone with Moses, whites in Virginia described him as a race traitor

Every time some statue supporting know nothing talks about those statues Wm Mahone is one of my answers

on edit: In case you're wondering... no he shouldn't have a statue either. He enthusiastically supported treason. But, if Lee and the rest of that treasonous crew get them, why not him?
Pretty damned obvious

Gus Benson of faux spews has one of the best talking points about il douche's speech

"Where he really lost me was when he was saying and objecting, saying there were some fine people in that protest in Charlottesville on the alt-right -- but this was a white nationalist rally. They were chanting things like 'Jews will not replace us.' There is nothing good about that."

Anyone who tries to play the mealy mouth apologize for the moron, just remind them of that

Cardinals say 'Rally Cat' is missing

The St. Louis Cardinals, hoping to "scratch and claw their way" into the playoffs, are looking for "Rally Cat" after it reportedly went missing late Wednesday night.

The stray feline entered Cardinals lore Wednesday night, interrupting play against the Kansas City Royals with the bases loaded in the sixth inning by running onto the field and toward the center-field wall.

One pitch after a grounds crew member Lucas Hackmann painfully retrieved the scared kitten, Yadier Molina blasted what turned out to be a game-winning grand slam in an 8-5 victory.

*****************
according to the Cardinals a woman grabbed the cat and claimed it was hers. She ran off with the cat and reportedly lost it in City garden.
The Cardinals are now working on a stray animal protocol for the crew and animal (that cat tore up the grounds crew member)

The Cardinals are also trying to get 'Rally Cat' back
Even non-cat person, Cardinals manager Mike Methany wants the cat back, "I'm not a cat person, but I sure liked that one."

Korea: Prosecutors seek to seize royalties from ex-president's memoir

SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Yonhap) -- Prosecutors said Friday they have requested a court order to seize royalties from a memoir by former President Chun Doo-hwan, to collect part of his unpaid forfeit related to his bribery conviction in the 1990s.

Chun, who served as president from 1980 to 1988, published his memoir in April this year, and drew fire for mentioning his government's bloody crackdown on the 1980 pro-democracy uprising in the southern city of Gwangju, as a scheme led by North Korean troops and insisting that he was not involved in the brutal mass killings of Gwangju citizens. He also claimed the movement was quelled without the use of violence.

Last week, a local court granted an injunction against the sale of Chun's book and ordered its publisher to take out the distorted accounts.

The general-turned-president was convicted of bribery in 1996 in a trial for the massive corruption involving himself and his successor Roh Tae-woo. The court ordered him to forfeit some 220.5 billion won (US$192.3 million). He has so far paid 115.1 billion won, or about 52 percent of the amount, according to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office.

Onion: Trump Administration Worried President Burning Through Minority Scapegoats At Unsustainable

Rate

WASHINGTON—Citing today’s announcement that transgender individuals would be banned from serving in any capacity in the United States armed forces, numerous sources within the Trump administration expressed a deep sense of concern Wednesday that the president was burning through minority scapegoats at an unsustainable rate. “I was hoping we’d be able to keep the transgender community in our back pockets for at least another year, but we’re barely six months into the first term and the president goes and wastes that card on military overspending and unpreparedness—we just can’t keep up this kind of pace,” Chief of Staff Reince Priebus reportedly told top advisors in a closed-door meeting this morning, sharing his concern that President Trump had already used the nation’s Hispanics and Muslims as targets of blame for all of the country’s criminal problems and terrorist threats, respectively. “We’ve got to make it through three and a half more years, and there are only so many minorities we can pin the country’s issues on. At this rate, we’ll be holding gay parents responsible for our cultural decline by October and targeting Jews for economic stagnation by the end of this year. Who the hell are we going to hit after that when we get into another crisis? Christ, this is bad.” Priebus reportedly took some solace, however, upon being reminded that the nation’s black community was always available as a suitable fallback scapegoat for any conceivable social or political ill whenever the Trump administration needed one.
