Cameraman with Ebola has passion for Liberia
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) Passion for Liberia and the plight of its people drove Ashoka Mukpo to work there, first to aid relief efforts and then as a TV cameraman to tell the country's story. But Mukpo has an unusual story of his own: As an infant, he was identified as a reincarnated Tibetan lama a role he chose not to pursue.
Mukpo, 33, was diagnosed Thursday with Ebola and was being cared for at a treatment center in the capital of Monrovia. He was expected to return to the United States this weekend.
Mukpo's mother, Diana, came from an upper-class aristocratic family in Great Britain. At age 16, she left boarding school in Scotland and married Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, a Tibetan Buddhist leader, according to an interview she gave to the magazine Shambhala Sun. She was one of several wives.

The infected freelancer was hired Tuesday to be a second cameraman for NBC News Chief Medical Editor and Correspondent Dr. Nancy Snyderman. Snyderman is with three other NBC News employees on assignment in Monrovia, reporting on the Ebola outbreak.
The freelancer came down with symptoms on Wednesday, feeling tired and achy. As part of a routine temperature check, he discovered he was running a slight fever. He immediately quarantined himself and sought medical advice. On Thursday morning, the 33 year-old American went to a Medecins Sans Frontieres

Former Congressman Jim Traficant Dies from Injuries Related to Tractor Accident
Source: Cleveland Leader
Former U.S. Congressman James A. Traficant Jr., who represented Ohio's fourth district for two decades, has died. A spokesman for the family confirmed that Traficant died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
The 73-year-old was involved in a serious tractor accident on Tuesday evening at his family farm in Greenford and had been in "very critical condition", according to his wife Trish. Traficant was driving a 1943 tractor which rolled over backward onto him while he was in the driver's seat, trapping him underneath the tractor.
A number of people close to the Traficant family have said that it is believed that he suffered a heart attack, which caused the tractor accident. It has also been said that he has shown no brain activity since the accident.
Traficant, a Democrat, served over 17 years in the U.S. House of Representatives until he was ousted in July 2002 after a federal jury convicted him of 10 felony counts, including racketeering, tax evasion, obstruction of justice, and bribery. Traficant was sentenced to seven years in prison and was released in September 2009, after which he hosted talk shows and even wrote a book.

Stephen Hayes on DHS Terrorist Watchlist
Hayes, who spoke to POLITICO by phone on Tuesday, suspects that the decision stems from U.S. concerns over Syria. Hayes and his wife recently booked a one-way trip to Istanbul for a cruise, and returned to the States, a few weeks later, via Athens.
"I'd be concerned if it was anything more than that," Hayes said.
Hayes first learned about his status on the watchlist during a trip to Minneapolis a few weeks ago when he was stopped for extra screening

IDF shoots down Syrian fighter plane infiltrating Israeli territory
Source: Haaretz
The Israel Defense Forces' aerial defense system on Tuesday fired a Patriot missile and shot down a Syrian Sukhoi 24 fighter jet that infiltrated Israeli territory.
The jet was toppled over the Syrian side of the Quneitra border, after it had flown 800 meters west of the border into Israel and turned around.
The decision to down the jet was made after 1:20 minutes of flight; when the Patriot hit the plane, the Syrian pilots had already turned around and flown back into their territory.

Construction workers new witnesses to Michael Brown shooting

Almost all of the witnesses who shared these accounts with media either knew Brown; lived at or near the Canfield Green apartments, where the shooting occurred; or were visiting friends or relatives there.
But there were two outsiders who happened to be working outside at the apartment complex on Aug. 9 two men from a company in Jefferson County who heard a single gunshot, looked up from their work and witnessed the shooting.
