Hope

Who are these two young men? Tariq Abu Khdeir the Palestinian American beaten to a pulp by Israeli police recently (captured on video), and Lucas Koerner an American who is Jewish, who met a similar fate 2 years earlier while speaking out against the occupation on a visit to Israel. Video of Lucas' arrest is in the article below. Both were at the recent protest in Washington DC

anyone else see General Russel Honore on CNN?

He was on a panel talking about Gaza, and was the sanest, most logical, reasonable person I have heard since this started. Basically he said :
This is a disaster, catastrophe and emergency. THEY HAVE TO STOP THE FIGHTING. JUST STOP. These people need water, food, medical care, the entire infrastructure, even sewage systems have been destroyed. We can get medical ships in there, and food, and start helping these people rebuild.
He didn't touch the politics of it all, and seemed disgusted no one is talking about the needs of the people.
I love him.

Gilad Shalit's father: I would fight Israel if I were Palestinian

Row erupts after comments by Israeli election hopeful Noam Shalit, whose son was held in captivity by Hamas for five years

The father of an Israeli soldier held in captivity for more than five years by Hamas has said he would fight Israeli soldiers if he were a Palestinian [see footnote].

Noam Shalit, who announced earlier this year that he would be standing for the opposition Labour party in the next Israeli elections, has provoked outrage among the Israeli right with the comments. His son, Gilad, was released in a prisoner swap in October 2011.

Shalit added that the kidnapping of Israeli soldiers by Hamas militants was comparable to the techniques used by Israeli paramilitary fighters the Haganah against the British, arguing "we also kidnapped British soldiers when we were fighting for our freedom".

The 'Terror Tunnels'

(Journalist Greg Mitchell has been asking for information for days on exactly how "deadly" these tunnels are, since their destruction is supposedly the reason for the slaughter of 1100. The article is his conclusion.)

Greg Mitchell @GregMitch
I asked earlier for link to credible account of how many Israelis have died over many years due to tunnels. Help?

The 'Terror Tunnels'

http://gregmitchellwriter.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-terror-tunnels.html

As we know, Israel's initial call for revenge against Palestinians in the current crisis was prompted by the kidnapping and killing of three teens in June, but soon there were doubts raised (even by some Israelis) that Hamas directed that. Then they highlighted Hamas firing rockets over and into Israel, but they've stressed that less often since flights started getting cancelled and tourism suffered. From the beginning, they have attacked what they called the "terror tunnels" built by Hamas over the years, but this has become the main oft-spoken cause for the ground and air attacks in the past ten days, since the ground invasion. U.S. media have dutifully taken tours of exposed tunnels and filed scare reports, such as the ones on CNN yesterday.
No doubt Israel is right to be concerned about these tunnels. No one would object to them destroying them along their border. Egypt has somehow destroyed as many as 1000 of them at its border used for smuggling goods (without killing many Gazans). The reason I raise this is: The tunnels are being used as a pretext for mass slaughter--and accepted or promoted as much by U.S. media. So the threat from them, especially before Israel escalated the war, must be proven and very clear
