Kitten-sitting

My local cat rescue group asked me to keep four 8-wk-old abandoned kits for a week or two 'til they could make room for them. One had to be bottle fed for a few days. It's been a pretty sweet week.

I will miss their precious company

The Apparition of Arran!

A wee, old lady called Mary Henderson had lived her entire life on the Isle of Arran. She may have been small, but she was packed full of wits and courage. Late one night, Mary was traveling home when she realized her route would take her over the haunted bridge.

Mary was brave but more to the point, she was tired and this was the quickest way home! With a deep breath, she started along the path. As she grew closer, an eerie blue light began to shine on the bridge and a cold sweat pricked the back of her neck.

A terrifying specter materialized directly in front of her. Of course, Mary was shocked and more than a little frightened of this shadowy creature, but she wasn't the kind of person to run away.

With only the faintest tremble in her voice, she called out a greeting to the apparition who replied in kind. As she got closer, it seemed to take more of a human form, until Mary thought it looked a bit familiar. It was Findlay! A lad who had died after an accident during the prime of his life.

Findlay explained that he had appeared to several big, burly men who had tried to cross the bridge, but every one of them just ran away. Mary was the first person to stand her ground and actually speak to him.

Just before Findlay had died, he had stolen a plow and his tormented soul was now unable to rest. He told Mary where to find it and asked her to leave it outside the house of its rightful owner. In return, Findlay would tell her all manner of things yet to come that could benefit her and her family.
Even without the reward, Mary would have done the right thing. The plow was returned, Findlay could finally rest and there would be no more fear of the Apparition of Arran.

All because a little old lady was brave enough to stop and ask how she could help instead of running away!

A few kitties say hello to September

These squirmy fosters are about impossible to capture in a photo. 3 wks old

Here they are plotting their takeover of the house.

Smile!

My tiny foundling is getting bigger. She went to the vet for spaying a few days ago.

Watching Freya Watch

On Friday I took her to the vet for her first vaccine. I swear, the vet said, "What a cute kitten." He also said she weighs 1.1 pounds and he thinks she's about 8 weeks old now. She's now scheduled for spaying at the end of next month.

She watches me...

She watches the ceiling fan...

She watches movies...,

I hope to be watching her for a long, long time.

A little day-brightener for you

Freya is really bonding with her auntie Angel, who is teaching her how to play/fight. They have the same markings on their back legs and tails so I think they might be kin.

She loves to sit on my keyboard which I now keep covered with a plastic tray since she somehow once opened the Uninstall app.

I really have to watch where I put my feet.

Hope these brought you a smile like little Freya brings to me every day.

Every day is adorable photo day!

Next to a standard wireless mouse, you can see how "big" Freya is.

Toys are essential.

It's like having a human baby. Lots of interrupted sleep, for both of us.

Without my cats my wallet would be full and my house would be clean but my heart would be empty.

Look what I found!

She was on the top of my chicken wire catio, 10 feet up. How she got up there will likely always remain a mystery.

On 6/28 at 4:30 a.m. my cats were going crazy. They were running around, jumping on the bed, and hollering. Ugh. So, I got up and started the day at my computer, close to the door that goes out to the catio. The cats out there were really carrying on.

When it started getting light out I went to see what was up. And it was a tiny kitten sitting on a 2/4 who was getting thoroughly checked out by cats who had climbed up an adjacent ramp. After a bit of time and some help from an extension ladder she was safely rescued.

She's so young! Eight inches long and her eyes just starting to change from baby blue, so maybe 3 weeks? Where's your mommy? I mixed a tiny bit of wet cat food into some water and filled a dropper and she quickly consumed 4 doses. Then she had a long nap on my lap.

After she woke up I let her wander around the house a little. I'd closed off the bedrooms where she could find lots of good hiding places. She went right to the cat food bowls and started chowing down on kibble. Later she found the cat box, jumped in and did her business, then covered it up. I'm like scratching my head and saying, "Who is this little creature and how did she get to be so smart?" Then she started chasing a ping pong ball around. And a catnip mouse that's almost as big as she is. She watches TV. Plus she has let the other cats know in no uncertain terms that she is not to be messed with and will someday rule the roost here. And she shall henceforth be known as Freya.

I really didn't want, or need, another cat. But who could pass up being treated to pictures like this every day?

I'm in love.

The Roswell Incident

Some of you may recall that on July 8, 1947, numerous witnesses claim that an Unidentified Flying Object with five aliens aboard crashed into a sheep and mule ranch just outside Roswell, New Mexico. This a well-known incident that many say has long been covered up by the U.S. Air Force as well as other Federal Agencies.

However, what you may NOT know is that during the month of April in the year 1948, nine months after that historic event, the following people were born:
Mike Pence
Donald Trump
Paul Manafort
Mitch McConnell
This is the obvious consequence of aliens breeding with sheep and jackasses.

I truly hope this bit of information clears up a lot of things for you. It certainly did for me.

Show them your cross

A car full of Irish nuns is sitting at a traffic light in downtown Dublin, when a bunch of rowdy drunks pull up alongside of them.
"Hey, show us yer breasts, ya bloody penguins!" shouts one of the drunks.
Quite shocked, Mother Superior turns to Sister Mary Immaculata and says, "I don't think they know who we are; show them your cross."
Sister Mary Immaculata rolls down her window and shouts, "Piss off, ya fookin' little wankers, before I come over there and rip yer balls off!"
Sister Mary Immaculata then rolls up her window, looks back at Mother Superior, quite innocently, and asks, "Did that sound cross enough?

An oldie but a goodie.

I was always aware,

due to growing up in a military family, living on bases. First major thing I recall is the Cuban Missile Crisis. We kids were all worried we'd be bombed or that our dads would be sent away. JFK's assassination had a huge effect on me and my family. Nixon made me realize our government was far from perfect.

To this day I still march in protests, work for state Dem's at fairs and go door-to-door encouraging people to vote. Last weekend I attended an ACLU Activist Training session. As several of us there said, "I can't believe I'm still having to protest this shit!"
