In Biden's first year, economic growth strongest in 37 years!

As a presidential candidate in 2016, Donald Trump made bold predictions about the kind of economic growth the United States would see if he were elected. Americans would celebrate, the Republican said, as annual GDP growth reached 4 percent for the first time in decades.

It was among the most jarring of Trump's broken promises. Even before the pandemic, GDP growth in Trump's first three years failed to reach 3 percent.

But as it turns out, the U.S. economy was able to reach growth rates unseen in a generation, but it happened under President Joe Biden. The Associated Press reported this morning:

The nation's gross domestic product — its total output of goods and services — expanded 5.7% in 2021. It was the strongest calendar-year growth since a 7.2% surge in 1984 after a previous recession. The economy ended the year by growing at an unexpectedly brisk 6.9% annual pace from October through December, the Commerce Department reported Thursday.

Not only is this the strongest annual growth in 37 years, it's also the second strongest since 1966.

By any fair measure, this is excellent news that exceeded expectations. In fact, a year ago, none of the major forecasters were projecting growth this strong in the United States. Domestic growth even outpaced China's economic growth in 2021 for the first time in decades.

To help drive the point home, consider this newly revised chart, showing annual GDP since 1980:

All of this, of course, comes on the heels of related news that the economy also created 6.4 million jobs in Biden's first year in the White House — roughly in line with the number of jobs created over the first three years of Trump's presidency https://www.msnbc.com

(The Hill) — Kid Rock is ripping Anthony Fauci and COVID-19 mitigation policies in a new expletive-filled anti-Biden anthem.

“We the people in all we do, reserve the right to scream, ‘F— you!” the singer shouts in his song, “We the People,” released Monday.

Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert, is just one of several figures targeted in the tune by the controversial “All Summer Long” performer.

“Wear your mask, take your pills. Now a whole generation is mentally ill,” Kid Rock, who was born Robert Ritchie, tells listeners.

The chorus of the song repeats the phrase, “Let’s go Brandon!” The term, which has become a popular rallying cry of sorts among some conservative and GOP groups, was established last year when an NBC Sports reporter said the crowd at a NASCAR race was chanting those words in support of driver Brandon Brown. The fans were actually chanting “F— Joe Biden.”

My friend posted this.... Yeah it's a big fucken deal!

How many times has Biden played golf his 1st year in office?

He's played... Wait, let's look at his predecessors first.

Barack Obama who was relentlessly mocked for spending so much time on the links by a world renowned birther, spent 105 days in all four years chasing the little white ball, mostly at military courses.

In his first year in office, Trump played 87 times at an average expense of $1million per outing, including cart rental and Coast guard protection. The next year was nearly 100 times for a total of 308 at the end of his term. He played 19 times his first 100 days, beginning February 4th. He enjoyed his favorite pastime, behind crushing democracy, 308 times while collecting the salary he said he didn't want.

Joe Biden played his first game as president on his 89th day in office and racked up a total of nine times at the end of his first year. That's it. Nine times. I can just see the disgusted look on Tucker Carlson's face.

"I'm going to be working for you. I'm not going to have time to go play golf". -DJT

I had to change my channel

While each Republican Senator took their turn mocking Biden.

Facebook may face consequences for boogaloo movement

with online platform
Jan 07, 2022 6:50pm EST by David Neiwert, Daily Kos Staff

The far-right “Boogaloo” civil-war movement—whose devotees comprised a significant portion of the so-called “Patriots” who besieged the Capitol last Jan. 6—may have largely faded from public view over the past year, but its followers continue to plot violence from the fringes. Just this past month, two “Boogaloo” devotees in Washington state were charged with making bombs targeted at law enforcement officers.

Its lingering presence, moreover, is stark evidence of the pernicious effect of social media platforms’ laissez-faire approach to such extremism, particularly on Facebook, where much of the “Boogaloo” movement gained traction in its formative years. Facebook (and its now-parent company Meta) has since made a public relations-driven effort to purge the movement from its platform, but the damage was already done—as the family of one of its victims is now contending in a lawsuit intended to hold the company accountable.

Ohio State Band has Covid

My girlfriend flew to Pasadena to see her son March his last game in the Rose bowl.
Today she texted to tell me 40% tested positive for Covid.
Her and her husband are hoping they don’t get it.

It cost them a fortune. I hope they don’t get the Covid!
