MAGAT: The guns aren't the problem, it's guns in the hands of crazy people.

Me: so, you think that we should restrict guns in the hands of crazy people?

Me: Well, we agree there. Liberals like me also believe there should be laws restricting access to guns for people with issues of mental stability. See? Liberals and Conservatives do agree on some things.

MAGAT: No, we don't agree. Look at all the corruption in elections. What about that?

Me: What about that? I thought we were talking about gun control.

MAGAT: So, you're avoiding the issue? Typical Liberal.

Me: No, I'm not avoiding it, I just think we can tackle one problem at a time. But go ahead, what issue do you have with corruption?

MAGAT: Well, see this case of election corruption where this Democrat (sic) Major cheated to get reelected and is now facing charges of corruption.

Me: Well, looks like he got caught. Hasn't been convicted. Trial will decide, but assuming he's guilty, I agree with you; corruption is wrong and should be punished. See? Liberals and Conservatives have common ground. Can we agree to that?

MAGAT: NO.

ME: Why not?

MAGAT: Look at all the illegals coming across the border.

Me: What does that have to do with corrupt politicians cheating on elections?

MAGAT: So, you're avoiding the issue? Typical Liberal.

Me: No, I'm not avoiding it, I just think we can tackle one problem at a time. But go ahead, what issue do you have with illegals?

MAGAT: They come across, commit crimes, we catch them, then release them because there's no more room in jails, so we kick them across the border and they just come back and commit more crimes.

Me: Okay, that's not something we should permit. We should do something about repeat offenders to keep them from commiting repeated crimes. Se? Liberals and Conservatives can agree on certain issues. You agree?

MAGAT: No.

And so it goes, on and on, and on.

The bottom line is this:

You are the enemy, there is no common ground. I reject you because you belong to the other side. There can be no common ground between us. If there is, there's something wrong.
