Think about this scenario which has an upside and downsides.
The Republicans realize that both Pence and Trump are dragging them all down.
They are both forced to resign, Pence first. like Agnew. The Dems agree to
a moderate Republican who promises not to run in 2020 who is appointed
by Trump who agrees to resign if he and his children are pardoned.
This opens the 2020 race wide open for Romney or Rubio etc. And they would
have a much better chance to hold the Presidency and the Senate.
The Republicans will never accept Pelosi. Her presidency would seem like a coup
and forment violence in the country. This compromise might be successful, but
offers more dangers for in 2020 race than for the Republicans.
You are probably right.

A ban on these weapons will not be enough.

Voluntary buybacks will fail, as the most dangerous, paranoid owners will keep them.
Confiscation will only partly be effective and most likely lead to violence and a thriving
black market with criminals making fortunes. Think Prohibition.
We need to change our culture; that will take time and only be partly successful. We live
amidst a huge gun cult. It grew around us and now we are paying the price in deaths
and destruction with little recourse in the short term.
Years ago,
I had a beloved dog who was diagnosed with deadly tumor which could rupture at any time,
yet she was free of pain and fully enjoying her life. The vet explained that she could
live comfortably for many more months, but her death would be horrific.
His words still resonate: "Your animal companions give you deep love all their lives. In return, you
have the ability to give them the gift of a comfortable death."
After several days of anguish, I chose to say goodbye my precious dog while she was feeling well,
rather to risk her suffering.
His wise words have guided me during multiple end-stage crises with other animals.
It is always hard to accept the responsibility, especially the timing, and yet is something
we can give our animals we cannot give our human loved ones during their exit.
And for this, I am grateful.
Please consider having the vet come to your house.
This is by far the best solution to such an awful time. I have done this many times and it is the
kindest and most comfortable for your pet and for you and your family. This is truly the way to
give your beloved animal a "good death'"
The are vets who specialize in this kind of hospice care. Check on line for locating them near your
home. There is one organization that has vets all over the country. The one near me has been
wonderful. I have had to say good bye to three pets in the last five years. Each time she was there
for us in the final declining months available 24 hours day for questions and support. Also
to help know when we had reached the end of the line. And she only charged for her services
at the final visit. I am forever grateful for her kindness and compassion as well as the dignified
ending she provided for my precious pets.
