Man killed in road rage shooting in Colerain Township

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -
Colerain Police believe it started here somewhere along Colerain Avenue. 20-year-old Anthony Griffin had some type of altercation with another driver 26-year-old Jeremy Hardman.

Police say Hardman then followed Griffin to his girlfriend's home in the 3200 block of Niagara Avenue.

Mike Harris says he watched it all happen right here in his front yard. His sister's boyfriend, the father of her unborn son, Anthony Griffin shot and killed by a stranger.

"Over something so freaking stupid. I was just trying to get everyone to calm down. Tried to just deescalate it. No one really thought that would happen," said Harris.

Harris says Griffin pulled up to his house just before 1 a.m. Griffin's two sisters were in the car and an angry driver was hot on his heels.

"Evidently, the guy had pulled up. They had words. Then, he turned around and came back and they had words again and on and on it seemed to go. Nobody wanted to let it go," said James Love, Public Information Officer for the Colerain Police Department.

That is when Love says 26-year-old Jeremy Hardman pulled a gun and shot Griffin from his car. Right now, police say there are no indications the two knew each other and no indications of any crime.

Defend that gun nutters. This is exactly what I am afraid of every time I get in the car, some gun nutjob gets upset because he thought I looked at him the wrong way or didn't let him cut me off on the freeway.

Perry is gong to do the perp walk

Rick Perry to turn himself in

Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, will surrender to authorities around 5 p.m. CDT on Tuesday to be booked and have his mug shot and fingerprints taken, CBS News has confirmed.

Perry was indicted last Friday on two felony counts of abuse of power, charges his attorneys call "outlandish" and "wrong." Perry himself has said the indictment is an "outrageous" abuse of power by the Travis County public integrity unit.

A judge decided Monday not to issue an arrest warrant.

Perry's legal team includes a number of well-known attorneys, including Ben Ginsberg, who has long been a staple in Republican politics. He represented former President George W. Bush in the 2000 Supreme Court case that awarded him the presidency, served as counsel to Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney in 2008 and 2012, and acted as the co-chair of President Obama's election reform commission.

The 150-mile-per-hour Acela averages only 80 m.p.h. on the New York to Washington corridor

$11 Billion Later, High-Speed Rail Is Inching Along

WASHINGTON — High-speed rail was supposed to be President Obama’s signature transportation project, but despite the administration spending nearly $11 billion since 2009 to develop faster passenger trains, the projects have gone mostly nowhere and the United States still lags far behind Europe and China.

While Republican opposition and community protests have slowed the projects here, transportation policy experts and members of both parties also place blame for the failures on missteps by the Obama administration — which in July asked Congress for nearly $10 billion more for high-speed initiatives.

Instead of putting the $11 billion directly into those projects, critics say, the administration made the mistake of parceling out the money to upgrade existing Amtrak service, which will allow trains to go no faster than 110 miles per hour. None of the money originally went to service in the Northeast Corridor, the most likely place for high-speed rail.

Speedy Trains Transform ChinaSEPT. 23, 2013

On a 30-mile stretch of railroad between Westerly and Cranston, R.I., Amtrak’s 150-m.p.h. Acela hits its top speed — for five or 10 minutes. On the crowded New York to Washington corridor, the Acela averages only 80 m.p.h., and a plan to bring it up to the speed of Japanese bullet-trains, which can top 220 m.p.h., will take $150 billion and 26 years, if it ever happens.

ISIS destroys ‘Jonah’s tomb’ in Mosul

The radical Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group has destroyed shrines belonging to two prophets, highly revered by both Christians and Muslims, in the northern city of Mosul, al-Sumaria News reported Thursday.

“ISIS militants have destroyed the Prophet Younis (Jonah) shrine east of Mosul city after they seized control of the mosque completely,” a security source, who kept his identity anonymous, told the Iraq-based al-Sumaria News.

“The militants closed all of the mosque doors and prevented worshipers from entering to pray,” the source said.

A witness who did not wish to give his name said that ISIS militants “first stopped people from praying in it, they fixed explosive charges around and inside it and then blew it up in front of a large gathering of people,” according to Agence France-Presse.
