Rep. Maxine Waters Says The House Already Has The Votes Locked Down To Impeach Trump

While we know that a clear majority of House members support some type of impeachment action against Donald Trump, Rep. Maxine Waters said on Thursday that Democrats already have the raw votes locked down to pass an article of impeachment against the president.

During an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, the powerful Democratic lawmaker said the House of Representatives could approve an article of impeachment against Trump right now if they wanted to.

“We’re there,” Rep. Waters told Matthews after he asked her if they have 218 votes to advance an article of impeachment.

The exchange between Matthews and Rep. Waters:

MATTHEWS: You know, I did work up here for a while to know how the game is played. I mean a game with high personal stakes with the country. But it comes down to numbers. Can you get 218 – a majority – 218 votes out of the House?

REP. WATERS: Oh, absolutely. We’re there.

MATTHEWS: Really?

REP. WATERS: Oh, absolutely.

MATTHEWS: For an article of impeachment?

REP. WATERS: Yes.

Democrats might have had some initial political concerns about impeachment, but the winds have shifted rapidly as the American people learn more about how Donald Trump is attempting to hijack another presidential election.

“We should be focused and not overthink this. The guy has copped to this. If you are running an investigation, it is usually made a lot easier when the person admits to the crime. You can cross a lot of witnesses off the list that you might otherwise talk to.”

— Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), quoted by the New York Times, on impeaching President Trump.

Acting DNI Does Not Know If Giuliani Has Security Clearance

Acting DNI Does Not Know If Giuliani Has Security Clearance
How can the Director of National Intelligence have no idea what Rudy Giuliani's role is in U.S. foreign policy and whether he has the requisite security clearances to carry them out?
By John Amato
Video @ link~

During this morning's House Intelligence Committee, acting DNI Maguire was asked about Rudy Giuliani's role in the Ukraine debacle and he claimed the only things he knows about Trump's personal attorney is what he sees on TV and reads in the papers.

This is insane. How can the Director of National Intelligence have no idea what Rudy Giuliani's role is in U.S. foreign policy and whether he has the requisite security clearances to carry them out if he's tasked by Trump?

Congressman Quigley was the first member to broach this topic with Joseph Maguire and it's a very important aspect of this entire conspiracy.

Quigley outlined how Rudy Giuliani was mentioned five times in the whistle-blower complaint.

Rep. Quigley said, "In the transcript, the president mentions and speaks highly of Mr. Giuliani, a highly respected man, a mayor of New York, 'I would like him to call you, I will ask him to call you along with the attorney general.'

"Your reaction to a civilian dealing with this? The complaint, it talks about our national security," Quigley said.

He continued, "The inspector general talks about there as the highest responsibility among those that the DNI has, and obviously Mr. Giuliani is playing this role."

"To your knowledge, does he have security clearance?" he asked.

Incredulously, DNI Maguire replied, "I don't know."

"Congressman Quigley, I'm neither aware or unaware whether or not Mr. Giuliani has a security clearance," he said.

The Rude Pundit:That Trump/Zelensky Call Was Fucked Up for Even More Reasons Than Biden

That Trump/Zelensky Call Was Fucked Up for Even More Reasons Than Biden

Now, I have a PhD in this shit so that gives me superpowers to interpret texts of various sorts. But a freshman would know that "I would like you to do us a favor though" is a conditional sentence, taking what was said before and applying demands before any action is taken on the previous sentence. In other words, it is obvious unless you're a fucking moron or a Republican or both that Trump was saying, "Hey, Voldemort, you gotta do something for me if I'm gonna do something for you." In otherer words, it's the fucking dictionary definition of quid pro quo. And no matter how many times "No quid pro quo" is repeated like "No collusion," there was quid pro quo here. And, by the way, there was an attempt at collusion. The Ukrainians knew the deal.

snip//

Trump is such an intimidating dickhole throughout the conversation. He praises Zelensky for winning and then immediately starts to strongarm him. Seriously, this is rank mobster shit right here: "I will say that we do a lot for Ukraine. We spend a lot of effort and a lot of time. Much more than the European countries are doing and they should be helping you more than they are. Germany does almost nothing for you. All they do is talk and I think it’s something that you should really ask them about." I mean, come the fuck on. Hell, twice, Trump informs Zelensky, "The United States has been very very good to Ukraine." Replace countries with names like "the Lasagna Family" or "Fat Cavatelli" and it's right out of a terrible Godfather ripoff.

The discomfort that Zelensky is obviously feeling comes across as he tries to appease this fucking asshole who sounds like an overwritten villain character in a Ukrainian soap opera. He agrees to whatever Trump is saying, even as he's trying to figure out what the fuck Trump is saying. He talks about how great it'll be to visit with him while Trump goes on about the fired prosecutor (the one at the center of Biden bullshit), praising the prosecutor who most of the European Union and President Obama wanted fired because he wasn't going after corruption, including not investigating Burisma, the company that put Hunter Biden on its board. So Zelensky had to listen to Trump just fucking blather about shit he doesn't know, which, as we all understand, is the only way Trump speaks.

Trump ends the phone call by shitting on Zelensky's election win by making sure the Ukrainian president knows his win wasn't as awesome as Trump's. Our goddamn president says, "I’m not sure it was so much of an upset but congratulations." Why the fuck say that? Who does that except the biggest asshole in the world?

Yes, it's not really a transcript, but this is what the White House released, so it's the only thing we have to go on. But even this reveals criminality and pettiness and intimidation, conduct and actions so worthy of impeachment that it might as well be written on dildos and sent to all Republicans with the message, "Go fuck yourselves with this."

And that's without the whistleblower's report, which looks like is gonna fuck shit up even worse.

Trump and His Right-Wing Allies Are Losing Their Minds Over the Whistleblower Complaint

Trump and His Right-Wing Allies Are Losing Their Minds Over the Whistleblower Complaint
The president and other conservatives are going to wild lengths to try to tamp down the latest on the allegations.
Dan Spinelli

The long-anticipated whistleblower complaint that has become a central part of House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump was finally released Thursday, and it did not reflect well on the White House.

There was already damning public information thanks to a memo, released Wednesday, detailing what was said during Trump’s July 25 call with the leader of Ukraine, but the whistleblower’s complaint hints at other, similarly troubling conversations and a sprawling White House effort to cover it up. After Trump’s call with Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky , the whistleblower, a member of the intelligence community whose identity has not been revealed, claims that White House officials moved to “lock down” records of the call and improperly store them in an electronic system reserved for classified information. Crucially, the whistleblower added that this was “not the first time” Trump’s advisers have had to abuse this system to shield evidence of his calls with foreign leaders for political, not security, reasons.

The allegations were deemed “credible” by acting national intelligence director Joseph Maguire and intelligence community inspector general Michael Atkinson, both Trump appointees, but unsurprisingly, its findings were immediately challenged by Trump and his most rabid supporters. Trump fired the first volley Thursday morning from his Twitter feed with an all-caps message that said Democrats were trying to destroy the Republican Party “AND ALL THAT IT STANDS FOR.” He later deleted the tweet.

David Corn: Trump's Intelligence Chief Offers a Timely Reminder: Trump Is a Liar

https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2019/09/trumps-intelligence-chief-offers-a-timely-reminder-trump-is-a-liar/

Trump’s Intelligence Chief Offers a Timely Reminder: Trump Is a Liar
Joseph Maguire undercuts Trump’s smear of the Ukraine scandal whistleblower.

Just about every day Donald Trump busts a norm—a norm of politics, a norm of governance, a norm of decency. This never-ending fusillade makes it is easy to lose sight of his individual acts of lowering (or demolishing) standards. Yet on Thursday morning, Trump’s top intelligence official presented a stunning reminder that Trump has violated what ought to be an important principle: A president should not brazenly lie and make shit up.

Yes, I know, Trump does this All The Time.
And everyone—the media, Democratic and Republican lawmakers, and citizens throughout the land—have become inured to his audacious prevarications. Often, his false claims are directly contradicted by his own hirelings. (Case in point: Virtually all of Trump’s top national security appointees have stated they accept the intelligence community’s assessment that Russia covertly intervened in the 2016 election to help Trump, though Trump has repeatedly discounted or dismissed this finding.) Yet it still is important to push the pause button when one of Trump’s senior advisers publicly undermines Trump’s demagoguery and offers evidence that Trump is a doesn’t-give-a-damn-about-the-truth deceiver-in-chief. And that’s what happened when acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire appeared before the House Intelligence Committee for a fiery hearing focused on Trump’s latest scandal: the president’s alleged attempt to muscle the Ukrainian president to produce dirt he could use to undermine special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation and to harm Joe Biden.

The subject, of course, was Maguire’s handling of a complaint sent by an unidentified intelligence official to the inspector general for the intelligence community that accused the president of abusing his office for political purposes and that claimed White House officials tried to bury evidence of this misconduct. It’s this controversy that has finally pushed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to declare that House Democrats were transforming their multiple investigations of Trump into an impeachment inquiry. Since this story emerged days ago, Trump has been fighting back in his usual manner of denying reality and disseminating false narratives and charges—that is, gaslighting. And a key component of his counter-attack has been denigrating the anonymous whistleblower.

snip//

So if Trump and the White House did not know the whistleblower’s identity, how could Trump question this person’s loyalty, blast him or her as a partisan plotter, and accuse the whistleblower of spying? You know the answer: Trump doesn’t need facts to mount a smear campaign. (Did Roy Cohn?) Trump concocts phony conspiracies and misleading narratives all the time. (Remember birtherism?) When caught in a misdeed, his first instinct is to attack and vilify, the truth be damned. After all, when has Trump been held accountable for such malfeasance?

The Ukraine scandal is yet another indication that Trump places his private interests over public service and recognizes few restraints when it comes to abusing the power of his office. And this instance of his lies being revealed by the man who runs the intelligence community for Trump signals yet again that Trump is a serial fabulist. In days past, a president caught in such blatant lying might actual suffer consequences—at least, a few pokes in the media and perhaps even within his own party for besmirching a US government official. These days, this Trump lie is just another piece of straw in one huge haystack. Trump’s intelligence chief tells us that Trump is a liar—and though the contradiction has drawn media attention, Trump’s action is hardly covered as outrageous. That’s a sign of Trump’s victory in his war against the norm of honesty.

The Zelensky Memo Suggests There Might Be Tapes

The Zelensky Memo Suggests There Might Be Tapes
The document, which is not a transcript, was compiled with the help of voice recognition software.

Reading the White House memorandum on President Donald Trump’s phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a question comes to mind: Is this it, or is there more?

Of course, there’s quite a lot, as is. The memo shows Trump asking a foreign power for dirt on a possible opponent in next year’s presidential election, recruiting the attorney general to assist in this effort, and at least suggesting (if not quite proving) a quid pro quo between this help and the granting of military assistance.

But the memo is not a comprehensive document. Though many are calling it a “transcript,” that is not at all what it is. The document is titled “Memorandum of Telephone Conversation” (emphasis added). At the bottom of the New York Times’ reproduction of the memo, a fine-print note explicitly says as much:

Note: The five-page document distributed by the White House includes a cautionary note indicating that it was “not a verbatim transcript” but instead was based on “notes and recollections of Situation Room Duty officers” and national security staff. But senior officials said voice recognition software was used in preparing the “memorandum of telephone conversation,” which included long, direct quotations.

snip//

Trump declassified this memorandum, which is why we are all reading it. Presidents have the right to declassify whatever they want. But in releasing this specific memo, Trump may have created a precedent by which other materials relating to the same inquiry might also be declassified. Or at least he’s given the House Intelligence Committee, which is authorized to see material much more highly classified than this, a good argument for why other related material ought to be released.

In other words, the Zelensky memo may have revealed the existence of a vast and previously unknown trove of information that might be used to help seal the president’s fate.

Devin Nunes Claims Democrats Are Trying To Get Naked Pictures of Trump

Devin Nunes Claims Democrats Are Trying To Get Naked Pictures of Trump

Rep. Devin Nunes (D-CA) claimed at a hearing with the acting DNI that Democrats are working with Ukraine to get naked pictures of President Donald Trump.

Nunes went on a whole conspiracy theory rant where the topper was, “Democrats on this very committee colluded to get what they thought was nude pictures of Trump.”

https://twitter.com/i/status/1177239255900393473

Nunes has said a lot of crazy stuff in defense of Donald Trump. One could argue that the wheels began to really come off the Trump presidency once Democrats took back the House and Nunes was no longer Trump’s personal mole on the House Intelligence Committee.

No one wants to see nude photos of Donald Trump. We already know way too much about Trump’s private parts thanks to Stormy Daniels.

Democrats are trying to conduct a serious hearing in the Intelligence Committee while Republicans are busy trying to discredit the whistleblower complaint and push conspiracy nonsense. When this behavior was coming from the GOP House majority, it could gain traction, but coming from House Republicans in their current state, it looks and sounds like a really bad episode of a late-night Fox News show.

Unless Democrats are trying to lose the 2020 election by scaring the minds of 2020 voters with Trump nudity, there is no reason for America to ever see Donald Trump naked.

Trump's Death by Self-Regard

Trump’s Death by Self-Regard
by Robert Kuttner
September 25, 2019

The just-released transcript of Trump’s call with Ukraine’s president Zelensky is nothing short of staggering.

Trump’s self-regard, swagger, and extreme narcissism are all on display.
You get the sense that he is so eager to strut his stuff and have the public see it, that it overwhelms any sense on his part that this particular strut could be the stuff of impeachment.

And of course, the transcript can’t be read in isolation. Just days before, as Trump now admits, he withheld $400 million in military aid to Ukraine. There would have been no reason to do this except as leverage.

So now we have a smoking gun, every bit as damaging and self-inflicted as the Nixon tapes.
