Duppers
Duppers's JournalBest quote of the article...
"The obvious solution is to have fewer children. In 2017, an important research study, published in the journal Environmental Letters, found that giving birth to one less child is 60 times as effective as all the other actions a person can take to improve the environment combined, such as switching to an electric car, to solar energy or to a vegan diet."
Bless my childless friends! Btw, most of my friends are childless or only have one.
Life by 2100? Well...
We are killing the planet's life, yet Israel has a 3.1 child fertility rate! Why?
A/C and desalination shall become essential solutions, but I think our environment will be much worse than those can solve long-term. Hint: food. Arable land will disappear. Build huge air-conditioned domes where food can be grown? Perhaps, but does Israel in particular have the space? (That brings up more ugly thoughts, such as war and armies to defend these assets.)
And then there's the little problem for all of the planet: Lowered planetary oxygen rates. Warming is increasing exponentially! And it's killing the oxygen-producing phytoplankton in earth's increasingly acidic oceans!* Our major sources of oxygen are those phytoplankton and of course the little remaining rainforest which are now being cut everyday.
I think this article is rather too optimistic and am expecting earth to become a dystopian world by 2100.
*"Phytoplankton are responsible for 70% of Earth's oxygen production. ...Phytoplankton levels have declined by 40% since 1950 due to the warming of the ocean."
Tell it like it is.
It will be. Even many DUers don't want to hear or believe this. It's very difficult to accept and once accepted, most difficult to deal with until one come to a certain place.
I cried for weeks when coming to terms with the knowledge that my son will be unable to experience a full lifespan. Our own mortality is most difficult to face (hence religion) but knowledge of what we've done to our children is devastating. My son's a brilliant person, knows what's coming, and is living life to its fullest now. I've profusely apologize to him.
Did you watch the video?
This guy has a long, long history of dealing with pitties, so he does have quite a bit of expertise.
I've some mixed feelings but in general, am supportive of folks trying to save the good pitties - yes, there are such critters. The best trained, best behaved dog I have ever seen in my life was owned by a dog trainer we knew. In the middle of a class of ~15 crazy young dogs being trained, this pittie was so chilled that he never let the yelping, biting pups bother him a bit.
Yrs ago we adopted a pittie as companion for our sweet Border Collie. This pittie ended up dominating our girl b.c. to the point that he was actually mean to her. He was gone, given away, w/o regret on our part.
My son just adopted the sweetest 9mo pittie mixed. She's a doll and is working out really well. Is even good with his 2 cats.
Blanket statements bother me.
I came from generations
Of dumbassed, racist rethugians! But like my hubby, I broke the mold. "Gotten more progressive and leftist" - that's me as I've aged.
This is why I'm supporting a Biden/Beto ticket.
Beto would carry all of Texas' 36 electoral votes!! And that'd be the presidency, folks.
Where else but California has that many electoral votes?

How does a Biden/Beto ticket sound?
Because we need Texas to guarantee the win of the election. Texas has 36 electoral votes! 36!!
And we need our ladies in their States doing the great job they already are and can't afford to risk a seat to a Republican.
Besides, I love Beto.
🌲 Go Green
WHAT'S GREEN BURIAL?:
"We believe burial is green only when it furthers legitimate environmental and societal aims such as protecting worker health, reducing carbon emissions, conserving natural resources, and preserving habitat.
http://greenburialcouncil.org/
This is what I intend to have done. Already have names the funeral homes that offer this service in the city near where I'll probably die.
A lot of info at the link, folks.
"..restores religious and economic freedom..."
When was religious freedom taken away? People are free to worship as they choose.
And "economic freedom"? Oh, they mean laissez-faire government that throws out any and all restrictions. Doesn't matter if people are hurt, just so the 1% are getting richer.
"And Judeo-Christian values under the Constitution. WTF? Our Constitution says nothing about Judeo-Christian values. Besides, what do religious values have to do with morality, with being "a good person"? What the Right wants is all other religions to be banned in this country.
"Talking points"
We knew these rethugians can't come up with all their nonsensical, disparaging, pseduo scientific-sounding junk themselves.
Mustn't interfere with big money makers, no matter the toll.
