One useful thing that will happen I predict is that NASA and other international space agencies will get huge last-minute funding to help deter warming. It won't save us but it will help postpone our total demise.

Btw, wingers readers, eat dirt.
"better adherence to the precepts of human faith systems"
Sorry but I'm curious to how that would apply.
Most religious people I know, Christian and otherwise, are the most adamant deniers. "God would not let that happen to us" to the crazier, "we'll be raptured as non-believers burn in hell on earth."
Again, I'm sorry I do not follow the logic of how the "Golden Rule" would keep the Earth from burning when most of these people think they can have all the children they can support. Whenever you see large families, you may be assured that these people follow some faith system.
Ta-Nehisi Coates on Chris Hayes this evening
At the very end of his long and interesting interview with Chris Hayes, Coates said that global climate change is the most urgent issue facing all of us and has priority over any race issue now. He was there to discuss his recent controversial article, "The First White President."
I thought, Wow, good for him!
Did anyone else catch the end of that interview? I googled but couldn't yet find any source mentioning this. Also, I cannot find any discussion this on DU.
Climate change continues to be avoided almost everywhere.
Thought this info would be welcomed here.
In 1989 a physician drove to our flat!
When my hubs was an "overseas fellow/ visiting scholar" at Churchill College, Cambridge U., my 18mo son became very sick (fever, kept nothing in his stomach). We did not have a car. I called health services and explained his condition. Within 30 minutes a doctor was at my door! She then drove us (drove us in her own car!!) to Addenbrooke's Hospital. We spent the night and my son recovered. We were not charged for anything!! I was most amazed at all the caring people in that hospital. I heartedly second Rude's statement: "there was not a single person I met who seemed angry or beleaguered or disgusted by the system they worked in."
I did have a short form to fill in and sign which took less than a minute.
Same here.
I was wondering if others were feeling emotional about this too.
I remember first seeing the photo "The Day the Earth Smiled." It almost moved me to tears. The universe is so immense, much more so than the average person is aware of, and we are so small, yet we put ourselves up on such pedestals.
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."
- Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot
(Btw, we're also a NASA family here.)
Excellent!! ALL states should pass these laws.
But there would be hard pushback in some states. The ASPCA on puppy mills...
"Puppy Mills Across the United States. The highest concentration of puppy mills is in the Midwest, specifically in Missouri, but there are also high concentrations in other areas, including Pennsylvania, Ohio and upstate New York. Commercial dog breeding is very prevalent among Amish and Mennonite farmers."
Strange how some religions elevated humans so far above our evolutionary cousins as to view them as animated objects.
Excellent quote.
Sad tho true.
My neighbor is an Antarctic biological oceanographer (had to go to Wiki to get her full description) whose research focuses on the role that zooplankton play in marine food webs and the global carbon cycle, and how they are affected by climate changes.
She won't discuss how bad it is, even tho we brought it up.
I've seen these devastating pictures.
Thank you for posting in GD. Too many important posts get too little exposure back in the E & E Forum.
Anyone paying attention knows that we've already doomed ourselves and its "biblical" measure is coming all too quickly. Recent humongous hurricanes in Texas and in Florida are going to become yearly events. And the futile rebuilding process will cease. Yes, it's more than fucking sad, it's devastating. We're coming to a stark new reality.
My 30yo son and his g.f. have made the very sad but wise choice to never make me a grandmother. 😥
