THE KREMLIN (Not The WH) Releases Statement on Call Between Trump and Putin

As of this posting, the White House has not released its readout yet.

The Kremlin statement says that both leaders showed “a disposition to actively work together on stabilization and development of Russian-American cooperation in a constructive, equal and mutually beneficial basis.”

Putin and Trump apparently discussed joint efforts to fight ISIS, and they also had this to say about both nations’ economic ties:

It stresses the importance of the restoration of mutually beneficial trade and economic ties between the business communities of the two countries, which could further stimulate progressive and stable development of bilateral relations.

There is no mention in the Kremlin statement of whether they discussed the issue of U.S. sanctions on Russia. Trump has considered lifting them, but some major Republicans are publicly calling on him to not do that.

Philadelphia Inquirer Editorial: Trump's first days resemble those of a dictator

From spreading bald lies to suppressing basic facts and information, the early days of the Trump administration are suggestive of a tin-pot dictatorship. That's not the look he wants, and neither do most Americans.

The president and his staff spent their first days in the White House debating the size of his inauguration crowd and spreading falsehoods. Their disturbing behavior gave credence to the narcissist label some apply to Trump. But he just dusted off earlier bogus claims of voter fraud. Trump told congressional leaders that up to five million illegal immigrants cost him the national popular vote by casting ballots for Hillary Clinton.

Never mind that Trump won the election by securing more Electoral College votes than Clinton. His agitation over losing the popular vote has turned him into a sore and distracted winner. It is beyond bizarre that more than two months after winning the election, Trump continues to allege voter fraud.

.............

There are other alarming signs that the Trump administration is not interested in any basic facts that do not support its agenda, let alone the First Amendment.

Six journalists were arrested while covering the protests during Trump's inauguration and booked on felony rioting charges. A spokesman for the Committee to Protect Journalists said the arrests could send a chilling message to journalists and has called for the charges to be dropped.

WH: We did "remarkably professional/seamless job" implementing new visas policy-"Few Ramifications"

https://twitter.com/PhilipRucker/status/825413337953533952

President Trump’s executive order barring refugees from entering the United States and halting entry from seven predominantly Muslim countries — Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen — set off a cascade of reaction around the world.

Social media shook with emotion. Headlines were rewritten around the world. Legal scholars debated the order’s scope. But its most immediate effect could be quantified on a human scale: refugees and other immigrants from the seven countries, some on their way to the United States on Friday when Mr. Trump signed the order, who were no longer able to enter the United States.

Here are some of their stories.
Hameed Khalid Darweesh, Iraq

Mr. Darweesh, a husband and father of three who worked for the United States military in Iraq for about a decade, was detained after arriving at Kennedy Airport on Friday night. He was granted a special immigrant visa on Jan. 20. When he filed for it, he said he had been directly targeted because of his work for the U.S. as an interpreter, engineer and contractor....

Joy-Ann Reid: A Man Without Grace Meets a Party Without Conscience

?w=625
........................

If the Republicans have cast aside shame, they can at least be comforted that they are not completely alone.

The Democrats have proved themselves to be an ineffectual and weak opposition. Senate Democrats have belatedly vowed to oppose Betsy DeVos for education secretary, following a popular outcry that followed numerous Democrats, including progressive heroes like Elizabeth Warren, meekly approving Ben Carson for a position for which he is most assuredly not qualified: that of HUD secretary.

Seeming to ignore the roaring message sent by millions of Americans who participated in protests both before and after the inaugural, Senate Democrats have shown none of the fight exhibited by civil rights leaders, citizen activists and House Democrats. They seem to be whiffing on such awful nominees as foreclosure king Stephen Mnuchin, Putin pal Rex Tillerson and neo-confederate would-be Attorney General Jefferson Sessions, as if there would be any political price to pay for voting “no” on each and every one. It’s as if the core constituencies of the Democratic Party – notably African-Americans and others who rely on the soon-to-be gutted Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department – are unimportant, while (luckily, by the way) teachers unions continue to hold at least some sway.

Democrats are languishing without a leader, while they wait for their much-belated DNC chairman’s vote – one that may be too little, too late. They’re pitifully congratulating themselves for not being hypocritical, due to their absurd vow to work with Donald Trump wherever they can; a plan that can only ensure him more power.

it had to be said:
