Tyranny in the eye of the beholder

Officers can take cash and property from people without convicting or even charging them with a crime — yes, really! — through the highly controversial practice known as civil asset forfeiture. Last year, according to the Institute for Justice, the Treasury and Justice departments deposited more than $5 billion into their respective asset forfeiture funds. That same year, the FBI reports that burglary losses topped out at $3.5 billion.

Chicago shooting video tampered with, Burger King manager says (86 minutes missing from tape)

RESTAURANT MANAGER SAYS CHICAGO POLICE TAMPERED WITH VIDEO OF LAQUAN MCDONALD’S MURDER

There are more videos of Laquan McDonald’s murder than just the police dashcam video that Chicago just released.

A nearby Burger King also had surveillance video, which the FBI seized, but the restaurant’s manager is saying there are 86 minutes of footage missing. Unsurprisingly, the missing footage is during the time that Officer Jason Van Dyke shot Laquan McDonald to death and beyond.

The manager, Jay Darshane, testified that the footage was missing before a grand jury. CPD apparently entered the restaurant following the shooting, asked to see the video footage, and when they left two hours later, there were 86 minutes missing from the tape. Darshane told the Chicago Tribune:

I was just trying to help the police with their investigation. I didn’t know they were going to delete it.

The blood of three people who died and others who are still suffering from physical and psychological wounds is on your hands. You should be charged with accessory before the fact, no different than that bartender serving too many drinks to the alcoholic all too ready to accept them. You prey on the weak-minded among us, and when they act on the swill you spew, you have the gall to stand back and act surprised, condemning the very violence you choose to incite?

I've been thinking about the shooter, now known as asshole. He fucked up. The last thing the PTB wanted was something that made it obvious that Planned Parenthood was being terrorized. Asshole not only sets up a siege, he manages to lock down a shopping center on the biggest shopping day of the year. And does it in a bastion of Christian fundamentalism. That makes it hard not to notice the connections - even if the media tries. Now a few people have noticed. Planned Parenthood, and its clients are obviously victims. That despite studiously ignoring the fact that the most terrorized organizations in America, medical clinics that offer abortion services and the groups that support them, have faced a huge uptick in threats and violence since being libeled by a group of pseudo journalists, the press can no longer ignore it. Even the cops of one of the most Christian fundamentalist locales in America are eventually going to have to admit one of their own was killed because some asshole decided that attacking Planned Parenthood was less evil then planning to murder actual living humans.

I think asshole's plan to make a statement and be a hero is not going the way he imagined.
