The N.R.A. Crawls From Its Hidey Hole
Published: December 21, 2012 250 Comments
Wayne LaPierre, the executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, would have been better advised to remain wherever he had been hiding after the Newtown, Conn., massacre, rather than appear at a news conference on Friday. No one seriously believed the N.R.A. when it said it would contribute something meaningful to the discussion about gun violence. The organizations very existence is predicated on the nation being torn in half over guns. Still, we were stunned by Mr. LaPierres mendacious, delusional, almost deranged rant.
,
Mr. LaPierre looked wild-eyed at times as he said the killing was the fault of the media, songwriters and singers and the people who listen to them, movie and TV scriptwriters and the people who watch their work, advocates of gun control, video game makers and video game players.
The N.R.A., which devotes itself to destroying compromise on guns, is blameless. So are unscrupulous and unlicensed dealers who sell guns to criminals, and gun makers who bankroll Mr. LaPierre so he can help them peddle ever-more-lethal, ever-more-efficient products, and politicians who kill even modest controls over guns.
His solution to the proliferation of guns, including semiautomatic rifles designed to kill people as quickly as possible, is to put more guns in more places. Mr. LaPierre would put a police officer in every school and compel teachers and principals to become armed guards.

Michael Moore: How the truth could destroy the NRA

If the public could see what a .223 bullet from a Bushmaster does to a 6 yr old face or body, the gun debate would be over & the NRA finished

"To Live And Die In America"
The Huffington Post's powerful headline, visually powerful in fact.
It documents the 100 gun deaths in America in the week since Sandy Hook.

NRA’s LaPierre Calls for Armed Guards in Schools – - - You Know, Like at Columbine
In a bizarre press conference, NRA Chairman Wayne LaPierre called for the immediate placement of armed guards in all public schools. This is classic fighting the last war thinking, along with a dash of think of the children policymaking.
Just quickly, because you shouldnt even dignify this with much of a response. One, it would cost $5.5 billion a year to put a guard in every public school in America. If that could come out of NRA dues or a tax on bullets, maybe we can talk. I dont think thats what LaPierre had in mind. Second, gun violence doesnt only happen in public schools. WHILE LAPIERRE HELD HIS PRESS CONFERENCE, four people died in a mass shooting in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where the gunman just ran up and down a rural road. Presumably LaPierres response wouldnt be armed guards on all rural roads, but well see what he says at next weeks press conference. Finally, there was an armed guard at Columbine High School http://www.slate.com/blogs/weigel/2012/12/21/wayne_lapierre_wants_armed_guards_at_schools_columbine_had_an_armed_guard.html when two students shot up the school. He left for lunch when the shooting started, and returned in time to miss the target. The idea that you can place a security blanket around America is ridiculous, aside from the civil liberties degradation.

MORE HEROIN, Please!!
Ask a heroin addict:the solution to any problem is, by some strange coincidence, more heroin.
Asked by MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts for his immediate response to the NRA presser, Steele initially appeared speechless.
