Speaker Pelosi heads into the holiday recess emboldened and happy to silence her critics

“Fear is never a word used with me,” Pelosi told us of McConnells’ recent impeachment comments.

“I’m never afraid and I’m rarely surprised.”

“Oh pfft,” Pelosi told POLITICO, waving her hand dismissively when asked about McConnell’s suggestion she was “too afraid” to send him the articles of impeachment against Trump, which would trigger a Senate trial on whether to oust the president.

“Fear is never a word used with me. You should know right away,” Pelosi added. “I’m never afraid and I’m rarely surprised.”

..........

And more than 30 House Republicans have already announced their retirements or left office, a sign that the GOP is not optimistic about taking back power. On Thursday, Rep, Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), a top Trump ally and major force in the hard-line House Freedom Caucus, announced he wasn't going to run for reelection.

"It means that they know they’re gonna lose. And if you win, you’re going to serve in the minority under a Democratic president. You may want to spend more time with your family.”

"Cruelty is not wit", Pelosi says of Trump

“Cruelty is not wit,” Pelosi says of Trump. “Just because he gets a laugh for saying the cruel things that he says doesn't mean he's funny."

GOP Senators Will Be Shamed by Trump Himself

George Conway: “So common sense should tell senators that, even if Trump is acquitted in a short-circuited trial, that won’t prevent the evidence from revealing whether an acquittal was a just one. If Republican senators cut the trial short, they run the risk of being refuted and shamed on the pages of history by the very evidence they sought to suppress.”

“For the extraordinary evidence of the Ukraine scandal isn’t a one-off. Putting his interests above the nation’s is what Trump instinctively does.”

“Trump’s written tirade to Pelosi confirms the point: It shows that, even as he is being impeached, he still has no idea why — and thus no idea what his presidential duties require. He hasn’t learned his lesson, and never will.”

“And that is the ultimate point Republican senators who care about their legacies should consider: They run the risk of being refuted and shamed on the pages of history not just by the evidence — but by Trump himself.”

Nancy Pelosi with one for the ages: "We did all we could, Elijah"

Pelosi quotes a question from the late Oversight chairman Elijah Cummings, who passed away during the impeachment probe: “when you’re dancing with the angels...what did you do to keep our democracy intact?”
“We did all we could, Elijah,” she answered.

SCOOP: Trump personally intervened to slash Puerto Rico's Medicaid money as part of budget deal

SCOOP: Trump personally intervened to slash Puerto Rico’s Medicaid money as part of budget deal

President Donald Trump intervened to cut the federal government's Medicaid funding for Puerto Rico as part of a larger government spending deal, according to four sources with knowledge of the discussions.

The budget deal unveiled by lawmakers this week allocates up to $5.7 billion in Medicaid funds for the island over two years — instead of $12 billion over four years that Republican and Democratic leaders on two key congressional committees had endorsed after months of negotiating a long-term financial path for Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico has frequently been in Trump’s crosshairs, with the president calling the island “one of the most corrupt places on Earth” and its politicians “either incompetent or corrupt." Puerto Rico officials have also frequently been critical of the president, especially in the wake of the federal government’s response to the catastrophic Hurricane Maria in 2017.

Puerto Rico's Medicaid program has been relying on a series of short-term funding extensions since the fall, after confronting a fiscal cliff on Sept. 30 when a temporary boost in money — one of several that Congress has enacted in recent years — was set to expire. Its latest pool of funding expires Friday.
