Welcome back to DOJ Judge Garland!

GARLAND has essentially made his first working day at DOJ entirely about the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol.

Aside from some ceremonial stuff, he's getting briefed by FBI Director Wray on the Capitol riot investigation and meeting with DC prosecutors pursuing those cases.

Pathetic: When i see these things i'm reminded just how much the Twitter ban broke him

Not a single Senate Republican voted for the Coronavirus relief package.

Dow soars to record high, marking its first-ever finish above 32,000 points

The @GOP @LeaderMcConnell @GOPLeader sure picked the wrong hill to die on.

The American Rescue Plan just passed in Congress and is already saving American jobs.

This is just the beginning.

NEW: American Airlines is telling 13,000 workers who received notices of April 1 furloughs "you can tear them up!" House passage of $1.9 trillion stimulus bill extends airline Payroll Support Program once again.

Second, the rescue bill has quietly become an infrastructure bill. It devotes $350 billion to supporting state and local governments. These funds, initially proposed to plug COVID-19-created holes in public budgets, in many cases now exceed those holes. So the Senate has allowed states, cities, and counties to spend that money on improving services such as water, sewage, and broadband. Because many water systems are vulnerable to climate change and must be adapted, this is de facto climate funding. The bill also contains $31 billion for tribal governments and Indigenous communities, including line items for new infrastructure, housing, and language preservation.

Have some turtle tear soup

President Biden's spending bill is a classic example of big Democratic overreach in the name of COVID relief. It manages to spend only ~1% on vaccinations and less than 9% on the entire health fight.

This is by far one of the worst pieces of legislation I've seen in the Senate.

70-30, Merrick Garland confirmed as attorney general

When Merrick Garland is sworn in as attorney general, it will serve as a capstone on a career that has spanned years at the Justice Department and decades as a federal appellate court judge.

Garland, confirmed by the Senate Wednesday in a bipartisan 70-30 vote, touched upon those multiple roles throughout his nomination process and promised to uphold the values he’s learned while leading the Justice Department.

“From my first job at the Justice Department as a special assistant, to my current job as a federal judge, I have sworn an oath that I would take again if I am confirmed as attorney general—to support and defend the Constitution of the United States,” Garland wrote in response to senators’ questions for the record. “I have and will continue to dedicate myself to ensuring the security of our nation, to ensuring the fair and faithful enforcement of our laws, and to protecting the rights of all Americans.”

The incoming attorney general already committed to making the prosecutions over the Capitol riots on Jan. 6 his top priority, and also said reaffirming the important role of career staff would be a day one goal.
