Charlie Rangel: Trump has ‘pulled the sheet off the Republican Party’

Rangel, a Clinton supporter, told Christoforous that Sanders’ support was a very important step for party unity. “As his makeup guy would say, it’s very, very, very, very important,” Rangel said. “But the problem we’re having in our party is like a pimple on an elephant’s behind compared to what the Republicans have. We have a different way as Democrats to talk about our unity. We just don’t sit down and say, ‘Can we do it?’ We fight like hell for those things that we believe in. And while I had no idea that Bernie Sanders was so popular when he was in the House and Senate, I really believe he’s made my candidate even a better candidate, because there’s no question in my mind that her qualifications are outstanding.”


On whether he sees any parallels between those who voted for Britain to leave the European Union and those who support Donald Trump for president, Rangel said, “You bet your life.” He continued, “It strengthens the fact that being disgruntled and frustrated doesn’t mean you build a wall. It means that you try to tear down a wall. That’s what international trade agreements are for. That’s what the European Union was all about.”

Rangel then got into who Trump is appealing to in the U.S. “He’s tapped into those people who don’t like immigrants, who don’t like Muslims, who don’t like blacks, who hate Latinos, who don’t like Asians,” he said. “You bet your life he’s tapped into it.”

Rangel continued, “If you want to force me to say something good about Trump, I would say, yes, I am so glad he’s pulled the sheet off the Republican Party, because now that he’s completely destroyed the party of Lincoln, I want a decent two-party system when this election’s over.”

California voters will weigh in this November on a measure intended to curtail gun violence by requiring background checks for ammunition purchases and banning the possession of magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds.

The Secretary of State’s Office announced Thursday that proponents, including Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, had submitted enough valid signatures to qualify their initiative for the ballot.

“Enough massacres, death, tears, and hate – it’s time to take action and save lives,” Newsom said in a statement. “The Safety for All initiative gives California voters the opportunity to keep guns and ammo out of the hands of violent, dangerous, hateful people.”

The proposal would also license ammunition sellers, mandate the reporting of lost or stolen guns, establish a process for recovering firearms from people prohibited from owning them because of their criminal records, and compel state authorities to notify the federal government when someone is added to that prohibited persons database.

Donald Trump is going to be incredibly ready for his debates with Hillary Clinton, although he hasn't started preparing for them yet. September is FOREVER away.

Donald Trump is not worried about debating Hillary Clinton this fall, not the least little bit, because he's great at debating. Didn't you see him cream all those stiffs in the primaries? In fact, he hasn't even started preparing for debates, because debate prep would be work might make him all stiff and un-Trumpy. But he'll be right on top of all the facts when he needs to be, he told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt in an interview Thursday. Or at least all the fact-like statements that he's ever used in a debate.

Trump will be meeting Clinton for the first of three debates on September 26, which is plenty of time to prepare, he told Hewitt. Hewitt asked Trump if he was in "full practice mode" with mock debates yet, and Trump reassured him that, no matter what the other guys do, he's decided to Let Trump Be Trump:

I have not. No, I have not. And I must tell you, I think you and I have a little different mode. I watched (Mitt) Romney went into a log cabin or something and he came out and he wouldn't talk to anybody for weeks, you know, and all of that, and then he got to the debate and he wasn't able to speak so well. I've seen that, and to a certain extent, you have to be yourself. I do know the issues, I actually know the issues much better than people understand that I know the issues. But I want to, obviously I will be practicing. But I don't want to put so much practice in that all of a sudden you're not who you are. Does that make sense to you?

Heavens, we certainly wouldn't want to see Trump be anything less than Full Trump in the debates. For one thing, we'll have all that popcorn handy.

This is a summation in some ways of his campaign. He is in the right place at the right time for his message, and he blows it because at the end of the day, it's all about him. He seems to be trying to profit off a presidential run and not taking it seriously. This is trump steaks all over again after winning the primaries. It's completely insane.

DAVID GREGORY: I think John understates the importance of adding suites to the lighthouse. But I totally -- I mean, look, we spent all this time analyzing the potential significance of the parallels with his own campaign. We spent all of this time highlighting parallels of the campaign and way out ahead of where Donald Trump's campaign is. I'm shocked that, even given his statements, that he didn't come out and immediately seize on the importance of this. Maybe he wanted to inject a note of caution by not getting involved. But no, this just seems like political malpractice. I'm as bemused as everyone else looking at this thinking how strange this is

The British are frantically Googling what the E.U. is, hours after voting to leave it

Britons are frantically googling the phrase ‘What is the EU’ hours after voting for the UK to leave the European Union, according to Google Trends.

The tech giant claims that ‘What is the EU’ is the second top searched for question since the EU referendum results came out.

In a tweet, the company wrote: “What is the EU?” is the second top UK question on the EU since the #EURefResults were officially announced

OMG: UK Independence Party Leader Admits His Bold Brexit Claim Was a "Mistake"

Nigel Farage backs away from the Leave campaign's signature pledge to spend £350 million of European Union money on the National Health Service.


As Britain awoke on Friday to the news that it had voted in favor of withdrawing from the European Union, voters were introduced to their new reality with a stunning admission from Nigel Farage, the pro-Brexit advocate who leads the U.K. Independence Party. Farage said that the Vote Leave campaign's signature pledge—that leaving the European Union would allow for £350 million to be spent on the U.K.'s National Health Service—was a "mistake."

"No I can't, and I would have never made that claim," Farage said. "It was one of the mistakes I think the 'leave' campaign made"

When pressed by Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid, who said that 17 million people had voted to leave the EU partly on that bold promise, Farage repeatedly stalled, as he attempted to disavow the campaign pledge.
