"American companies have about $2 trillion in overseas accounts — money they could be using to hire workers and pay dividends in the United States. But they're reluctant to do so, in part because of the way the U.S. tax system works.
President Obama proposed some big changes in the tax code last month that would encourage U.S. companies to bring more money home. A lot of people in Washington agree with the goal, but there's sharp disagreement about how to accomplish it.

Last month, the European Union issued a report about Amazon and the taxes it pays. The online retailer does a lot of business in Europe but its corporate tax rate is in the single digits, says Crawford Spence of the University of Warwick in England. "They pay very little tax here, because most of their tax is paid in Luxembourg," he says.

And Amazon isn't alone. Big U.S. companies, including Starbucks and Apple, have pared down their tax bill by funneling revenue into tax havens like Luxembourg and Ireland. Spence says it's totally legal.

"Currently the rules are very complicated, very convoluted, which suits companies very well, 'cause there are always loopholes," he says.

This is probably the wrong thread but I would like to here from people who know the law

I talked to a friend of mine last night. She told me one of the most amazing stories I've ever heard.

First off I will say that I am not judging the woman's daughter as she has panic disorder and agoriphobia and many illnesses.

She has already lost 2 babies because she was high when she was pregnant when she was using opiates. Now my friend says that she is never allowed to keep a baby in the state of florida because of this. She is doing much better and only has "slips" with the drugs at times. Hopefully as time goes by she will finally be free of them completely.

So if she gets clean and sober in 10 years she will still not be able to have a child without the authorities taking it away? I find that ridiculous and I wonder if she has been mislead.

I get page after page of the same shit from different right wing rags. And even if I add "hoax" or "politifact" or "snoops" I still get nothing. What can be done about this?

Lies from the right are not being debunked and you can go pages and pages in Google and it is

only a bunch of right winged sites that are stating the same thing. I was a victim of this several months ago and when I posted the fake article I got the shit beat out of me here.

So apparently the cops have been changing Wikipedia pages to make themselves look better than shit

The New York Police Department has confirmed that a computer connected to its internal network was used to edit the Wikipedia page for Eric Garner, the unarmed Staten Island man who died in July 2014 after being held in a chokehold by NYPD officers.

After reports that several Wikipedia articles about alleged cases of police brutality were updated from NYPD network computers, a force representative confirmed over the weekend that officials have identified the person who edited the entry about Garner’s death.

On Sunday, Capital New York reported that a police spokesperson said that the person who made revisions to the article on Garner made them from an NYPD computer outside of headquarters.

The edits to the “Death of Eric Garner” Wikipedia page were made hours after grand jury’s decision in December 2014 not to charge the NYPD officer who put Garner in a chokehold. “Garner raised both his arms in the air” was changed to “Garner flailed his arms about as he spoke,” Capital reported, and “Use of the chokehold has been prohibited” was changed to “Use of the chokehold is legal, but has been prohibited.”
