North Carolina repealed bathroom bill and replaced it with the same bill in different language
You may remember North Carolina’s infamous House Bill 2 (HB2), the bill that has cost the state over $3.75 billion dollars, cost its former Gov. Pat McCrory his election, and cost thousands of LGBTQ North Carolinians their piece of mind and safety. It has been a stain on the state compounding the disgrace of a General Assembly that had already systematically worked to disenfranchise Black voters and solidify power for those already seated in office.
Yesterday, as the legislature approached today’s deadline imposed by the NCAA to repeal HB2, newly elected Gov. Roy Cooper, Senate Leader Phil Berger and House Speaker Tim Moore reached what they are calling a “compromise” repeal of HB2.
The bill does repeal HB2, but it just replaces it with prohibitions on local government entities (including cities, towns, schools) from extending legal protections to LGBT people until 2020 and bans on protections for transgender individuals in restrooms and other single-sex spaces forever.
The bill makes it illegal to protect people from discrimination. And worse still, it does so under a claimed interest in protecting “bathroom safety and privacy.”

It also states that so far in 2017 at least 8 trans women have been murdered. I hope the NCAA is not fooled by this bill and refuses to move their games until an actual repeal is enacted

So here is my problem du month. I like those tweets where people write more than on a regular tweet and it is like they are making a poster and posting it. So I found "Twitter cards" which may or may not allow you to do that. But in reading I came along something I had to deal with way back when I sold things on Etsy.com Here is what it says:

So like WHERE ON MY SITE?? I don't have a site! I have a Twitter frigging page. When I had an Etsy store I remember I stuck a code like this in my profile page somewhere and it worked. I have no idea why.
Then again maybe I don't want this as it might be for businesses. I want to be able to say more in a tweet. I have used TwitLonger.com but that just uses a link.

We have got to change the narrative from climate change to the dangers of pollution
It is too easy for these dopes to say climate change is a hoax. That gets them out of a whole lot of responsibility as I see it.
We have to show them the damages that burning fossil fuels causes to their own families and especially children if we are going to get them to see anything differently. Even with that there are some, like Trump, who just don't give a shit about the toxins seeping into their kids. Money motivates them more than anything. But there are others who perhaps just need a clearer understanding of the immediate dangers of these toxins
We need to ask them how they feel about supporting government bills that create an unhealthy environment for their children or grandchildren. They need to know that money cannot protect them from the carcinogens that end up in our air, water and ground.
I would love to see an ad campaign like the ones they have now for smoking. They scare the shit out of you but I bet they are effective.
And I know a lot of people don't want to really look at these because it is freaking scary. But if we want them to see it we have to see it.

Benzene
Benzene is a well-established carcinogen with specific links to leukemia as well as breast and urinary tract cancers. Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is a carcinogen with known links to leukemia and rare nasopharyngeall cancers, according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Formaldehyde is highly toxic regardless of method of intake. It is a potent allergen and genotoxin. Studies have linked spontaneous abortions, congenital malformations, low birth weights, infertility, and endometriosis to formaldehyde exposure. Epidemiological studies link exposure to formaldehyde to DNA alteration. It is also contributes to ground-level ozone.
Mercury

Mercury is a dangerous neurotoxin. It damages the brain and the nervous system either through inhalation, ingestion, or contact with the skin. It is particularly dangerous to pregnant women and children. It is known to disrupt the development of the in-vitro brain. In low doses, mercury may affect a child’s development, delaying walking and talking, shortening attention span, and causing learning disabilities. High dose prenatal and infant exposures to mercury can cause mental retardation, cerebral palsy, deafness and blindness. In adults, mercury poisoning can adversely affect fertility and blood pressure regulation and can cause memory loss, tremors, vision loss, and numbness of the fingers and toes.
Radon

Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless radioactive gas which causes lung cancer. It is the second largest cause of lung cancer in the US after cigarette smoking. About 20,000 people per year die from lung cancer attributed to radon exposure according to the National Cancer Institute. Further, there is no known threshold below which radon exposures carries no risk.

Putin using propaganda about immigrants to create chaos and unrest in Europe
I stupidly thought it was just alt right racists doing all of this. Now that I read this it is easy to see how these efforts are much more coordinated and the propaganda assaults are much bigger than any one racist group could achieve.
A former Hungarian spy has broken cover to describe how the Russians have played up and exaggerated the European refugee crisis for propaganda.
Farenc Katrein, who served in the country’s counter-intelligence agency for 13 years, said the Kremlin is “aggravating” the effects of migration by spreading “false” stories.
Mr Katrein said Russian officials, including foreign minister Sergei Lavrov, exaggerated the Cologne New Year's Eve sex attacks reports.
“Russia plays a part in aggravating the migration crisis and especially in using it for propaganda and gaining influence,” said the defector, who now lives abroad.

If not for plagiarism, Donald Trump might have had two foreign agents on his National Security Council. Trump announced in January that he was appointing Fox News pundit Monica Crowley as a deputy to National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. But then it was quickly revealed that much of Crowley’s most recent book had been plagiarized, so she wasn’t hired. But days after Flynn registered as a foreign agent, Crowley has now done the same.
Flynn was forced to resign in February after it was revealed that he had been in regular secret communication with the Russian Ambassador before and after the election and lied about it. Last week he registered with the U.S. government as a foreign agent of Turkey, belatedly admitting that he had been indirectly on another nation’s payroll at the time he was working as a Donald Trump campaign adviser. Monica Crowley has now registered as a foreign agent herself today, but her choice of new foreign employer is even more eyebrow raising.
According to her official filing on the U.S. government website, Monica Crowley will now be acting as a foreign agent of Viktor Pinchuk, a businessman in Ukraine. If you take a look at Pinchuk’s recent history you’ll find that he’s been a leading voice in his nation for essentially handing things over to Russia and the Kremlin (source: Wall Street Journal). This is remarkable, considering the controversy now surrounding Donald Trump over his decision to remove a pro-Ukraine plank from the Republican Party platform at the Kremlin’s urging, even as the Kremlin was rigging the election for him – and then he nearly hired Crowley, who now officially works for a pro-Kremlin political figure.
One thing to note here is that while Michael Flynn is retroactively filing as a foreign agent for money he now admits he took during the campaign, Monica Crowley’s filing indicates that her work as a paid foreign agent is just beginning now. There is not yet any evidence that Crowley was on the pro-Kremlin payroll at the time Donald Trump tried to hire her – but if any such evidence is out there, we’ll find it.
