How to Check If Cambridge Analytica Has Your Facebook Info

https://www.howtogeek.com/fyi/how-to-check-if-cambridge-analytica-has-your-facebook-info/

Wondering if Cambridge Analytica grabbed your data back in the day? Facebook offers a quick check.

Just head to this page and you’ll see a box labeled “Was My Information Shared?”, as shown above. My information, as you can see in the screenshot, was not grabbed, but there’s a decent chance yours was.

Cambridge Analytica grabbed data from users who logged into a “fun” personality test called “This Is Your Digital Life.” They also grabbed stuff from the friends of people who took that test, meaning your security habits alone couldn’t have protected you.

There’s nothing much you can do if Cambridge Analytica has this data—what’s done is done. Even worse, they were far from the only people doing this at the time: most Facebook games and apps from the early 2010s had broad access to you information as well as those of your friends. Heck, even an intentionally stupid game called Cow Clicker accidentally grabbed a bunch of data. This info was often stored on servers outside of Facebook’s control, meaning Facebook can’t delete it even if they wanted to.

Tioga, ND: -9F in early spring...

http://www.wx-now.com/Weather/WxExtremes?usa=true

http://www.wx-now.com/Current/KD60

Years ago I saw a climatological map that classified part of north central ND as sub-arctic. Now I see why. This is a colder temp than all of Alaska at the moment.

If you like to see extreme temperatures like I do....

check this site out

http://www.wx-now.com/Weather/WxExtremes?usa=true

That page is only about coldest temps in the USA. You can easily see the coldest in the world, warmest in the world and warmest in the USA also.

Enjoy

To my non-IT eyes, it seems like a good site ? I'll wait for the final verdict from more experienced people.

Iowa's Employment Problem: Too Many Jobs, Not Enough People

https://www.wsj.com/articles/iowas-employment-problem-too-many-jobs-not-enough-people-1522580400

MASON CITY, Iowa—Manufacturers in northern Iowa are begging Terry Schumaker for freshly trained workers for their factories. The problem is he doesn’t have enough students to train.

“It’s not like we have the people beating down our door to apply,” said Mr. Schumaker, a dean at the North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City.

It is a problem playing out in many parts of the Midwest, a region with lower unemployment and higher job-opening rates than the rest of the country. Employers, especially in more rural areas, are finding that there are just too few workers. That upends a long-running view in Washington, D.C., and many state capitals, where policy makers often say the unemployed simply lack the skills to get hired.

Mr. Schumaker said Iowa has plenty of free programs to train workers. And Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds is poised to sign Tuesday legislation that would provide an estimated $18 million for worker-training programs. But shrinking high-school classes leave fewer potential trainees.

Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson reveals he battled depression after his mother attempted suicide

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/dwayne-johnson-battled-depression-mom-attempted-suicide-article-1.3909277

The Rock wasn’t always unbreakable.

When he was just 15 years old, Dwayne Johnson’s mother Ata tried to commit suicide, walking into oncoming traffic right in front of him.

Ata survived, but Johnson had trouble moving forward.

“I reached a point where I didn’t want to do a thing or go anywhere. I was crying constantly,” the actor told The Express.

I applaud Mr. Johnson for being public and unashamed about his past depression. It helps all of we men.

Cloudflare Launches a New Privacy-Focused DNS Server, But Should You Use It ?

https://www.howtogeek.com/fyi/cloudflare-launches-a-new-privacy-focused-dns-server-but-should-you-use-it/

It wasn’t too many years ago that geeks would always use a custom DNS server to speed up their web browsing. Now Cloudflare has one too, but should you use it?

Before we continue, for the uninitiated: DNS is like a phone book for your web browser to look up the IP address of websites you try to connect to. Often using a third party DNS server like Google DNS or OpenDNS will speed up your browsing or give you extra featuress like parental controls.

These days most DNS servers are fairly fast so using a third party for speed reasons isn’t quite as important —- but there’s a bigger problem: privacy. Even if you are visiting websites using encrypted HTTPS, the DNS lookup gives away the fact that you are visiting a particular site, as Cloudflare’s announcement post mentions:

What many Internet users don’t realize is that even if you’re visiting a website that is encrypted — has the little green lock in your browser — that doesn’t keep your DNS resolver from knowing the identity of all the sites you visit. That means, by default, your ISP, every wifi network you’ve connected to, and your mobile network provider have a list of every site you’ve visited while using them.

Kind gentle PSA about feeling really bad, and this forum

I think we can all relate to feeling despair, to feeling like it will never end, to even wanting life to end. If you cannot relate to this, you are a very lucky person indeed.

Sadly but realistically, this forum is really not set up for those kind of feelings. It's not an issue of being unkind or insensitive or uncaring, it's a logistical issue. If, God forbid, "something" happened while we were chatting to a person, I know I would feel really horrible and probably most everyone else here would. Serious mental health crises need to be dealt with, at a bare minimum, with a dedicated online chat and most preferably on the phone. In-person is the gold standard, as in the hospital emergency room or your doctor's office or therapist's office.

Please please please, if you are feeling that horrible, call your doctor or therapist or just go directly to the hospital ER. At least at the hospital ER, you can talk to a nurse or social worker for a while and hopefully a doctor on duty too. They can refer you directly to outpatient counseling and a psychiatrist (yes I know from personal experience).

I wish everyone the very best in mental health and in all other areas as well.
