Bike path poop bandit strikes again

http://www.ourquadcities.com/story/d/story/bike-path-poop-bandit-strikes-again/69816/XG4qDLcUyEWVFjG8FT7euQ

Neighbors say someone has been going to the bathroom on the path for at least two years.
and now a sign telling people to "stop pooping on the bike path" have been stolen. One of the signs still remain on the trail. The person responsible has not yet been caught.

"First of all I kind of laughed, you know, but I just think that that has got to be gross, Why somebody would do that is beyond me.I would probably just go around it and then report it to the nearest village. I carry quite a few things on my bike, but nothing to handle something like that", said Joe VanHoutte, a regular on the bike trail.

Hampton authorities do not wish to comment at this time.

Sometimes I think I should do a regular segment like Andy Rooney did....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Rooney#A_Few_Minutes_with_Andy_Rooney

I loved that part of 60 Minutes. Yes, I know, Andy had his very bad moments too.

I have to fight against that curmudgeon tendency. Keep ant hills ant hills!

How Tornadoes Form and Why They’re so Unpredictable

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2015/05/150511-tornadoes-storms-midwest-weather-science/

More than 70 tornadoes were reported over the weekend in the Midwest and Great Plains of the United States, killing at least three people, with at least ten more still missing and significant damage in Arkansas and Texas.

More tornadoes are expected in the coming days. The fierce storms can happen at any time of year but are most common in May and June in North America, when atmospheric conditions tend to be most right for their formation. Tornadoes remain deadly and relatively unpredictable, despite recent advancements in weather science.

Here’s what scientists do know:

A tornado, or twister, is a violently rotating column of air that extends between the Earth's surface and a cloud, usually a cumulonimbus cloud. Most tornadoes last for less than ten minutes, says Harold Brooks, a research meteorologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) in Norman, Oklahoma.

Racist Police Emails Put Florida Cases in Doubt

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/16/us/miami-prosecutor-reviews-cases-of-police-officers-who-sent-racist-emails.html?_r=0

KEY WEST, Fla. — The Miami-Dade state attorney’s office is combing through more than 150 criminal cases of black suspects arrested by Miami Beach police officers who wrote or received racist emails, the latest in a series of high-profile episodes around the nation that have raised troubling questions about the relations between the police and the communities they serve.

Two ranking officers at the Miami Beach Police Department sent about 230 emails that contained racist and sexist jokes and pornography from 2010-12, Chief Dan Oates announced Thursday. A former police captain, who had been demoted to lieutenant, was fired, and a major retired before the investigation was made public.

Fourteen other officers received the emails, the police department said.

The episode, which follows the release of racist or homophobic emails in Ferguson, Mo.; San Francisco; and Fort Lauderdale, adds another level of discord to the often-strained relations between the police and minority groups. Officers in Edison, N.J.; Seattle; Baton Rouge, La.; and Casselberry, Fla., have also been fired or disciplined over racist text and email messages, a wave that some experts believe indicates a culture in which officers are comfortable expressing racist views.

Ok English majors, English grammar people and everyone else for that matter....

Look at this paragraph from Microsoft. Is it clear to you ?

Microsoft and our OEM partners know that many consumers are unwitting victims of piracy, and with Windows 10, we would like all of our customers to move forward with us together. While our free offer to upgrade to Windows 10 will not apply to Non-Genuine Windows devices, and as we’ve always done, we will continue to offer Windows 10 to customers running devices in a Non-Genuine state. In addition, in partnership with some of our valued OEM partners, we are planning very attractive Windows 10 upgrade offers for their customers running one of their older devices in a Non-Genuine state. Please stay tuned to learn more from our partners on the specifics of their offers.

from: http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2015/05/15/genuine-windows-and-windows-10/

Part of it is clear to me. It's just a bit confusing to me.

I first saw this here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_install/microsoft-clarifies-non-genuine-windows-licenses/0a081193-8f2a-466b-9a3e-969d0f923835#LastReply

eta: OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer (i.e. a company like Dell)

eta2: I was really just asking a grammar (?) question. Honest.

I don't complain any more, it's useless. IMHO. I feel your pain!

Humanity weeps as Candy Crush Saga comes preinstalled with Windows 10

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/05/humanity-weeps-as-candy-crush-saga-comes-pre-installed-with-windows-10/

In what is no doubt a sign that humanity as we know it is coming to a swift, unproductive end, Microsoft has announced that King's notoriously moreish Candy Crush Saga will come pre-installed with Windows 10. That's right, pre-installed. In what appears to be an entirely non-ironic post over at Xbox Wire, Microsoft says that "as an added bonus, Candy Crush Saga will automatically be installed for customers that upgrade to or download Windows 10 for periods of time following the game launch."

There's no word on whether you'll be able to opt out of the automatic install, although it's likely King will want to get as many people as possible hooked on Candy Crush given its recent financial struggles. Earlier today, the company's shares fell as much as 14 percent in after-hours trading after it issued a profit warning. It noted in its first quarter financials that revenue was lower than expected due to slowing Candy Crush sales, and players moving to "more mature games."

The Windows 10 version of Candy Crush Saga was first demonstrated at Microsoft's Build conference earlier this month, and served as something of a showcase for Microsoft's Project Islandwood and Project Astoria initiatives. Islandwood allows iOS developers to bring their apps over to Windows via an Objective C toolchain and middleware layer. While some recompiling is still required, it should make the process of porting apps easier for a large number of iOS developers. Things are easier still for Android developers, with Windows Mobile including an Android runtime layer that'll let most existing apps run unmodified. Notably, the new Windows 10 version of Candy Crush Saga will include cross-play options for iOS and Android devices.

Regardless of how you feel about King or its games, Candy Crush Saga certainly isn't the first bundled Windows game to threaten productivity. Microsoft's Solitaire, which has been a staple of the Windows OS since version 3.0, was once claimed to be "the most used Windows application in the world," not to the mention one of the original candidates for video game addiction. Former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg even fired an employee after catching him playing solitaire on the job.

Mitt Romney Fights Evander Holyfield in Salt Lake City for Charity

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/mitt-romney-fights-evander-holyfield-salt-lake-city-charity-n359546

In this corner, weighing in at 236 pounds: Evander Holyfield, the former heavyweight champion of the world.

And in this corner, weighing in at 179 pounds — Mitt Romney? The former Republican presidential nominee?

Relax. It's for a good cause: They're stepping into the ring Friday night in Salt Lake City to raise money for Charity Vision, which fights blindness in some of the poorest countries in the world.

"You've heard my critics say that I'm out of touch. That I'm stiff. That I just don't relate to people," Romney deadpans in a promotional video. "For years I've been listening to garbage like that. And I've decided to fight back."

NOT THE ONION I was rather amazed to see this! Somehow I don't think he will last very long, unless Evander takes it very easy on him.
