CNN Reporter: White House Called My Questions Inappropriate, Banned Me From Event

https://www.npr.org/2018/07/25/632518447/white-house-reporter-says-she-was-banned-from-press-event-for-inappropriate-ques

Several journalists have excoriated the White House for barring Collins after she did her professional duty as they see it.

The White House Correspondents' Association President Olivier Knox condemned the Trump administration for its decision to ban Collins.

"This type of retaliation is wholly inappropriate, wrong-headed, and weak. It cannot stand," he wrote in a statement. "Reporters asking questions of powerful government officials, up to and including the President, helps hold those people accountable."

Blitzer reported CNN's network bureau chiefs in Washington, D.C., "are filing formal complaints with Shine and others at the White House."

Hopefully Ms. Collins will be reinstated ASAP with an apology. I'm not counting on the apology, but at least reinstatement.

Frasier reboot, yay or nay ?

I loved Frasier personally, so I say YAY. A reboot might not be as good as the original but I'll give it a chance.

'Frasier' Could Get Rebooted as Kelsey Grammer Fields Ideas for New Series

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/frasier-reboot-discussions-at-cbs-tv-studios-1129793?utm_source=twitter

Add Frasier to the list of beloved 1990s shows to potentially get the reboot treatment.

CBS TV Studios and Frasier star/executive producer Kelsey Grammer are in the very early stages of discussion for a possible follow-up, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

CBS Studios declined comment.

Frasier, a spinoff of Cheers, aired for 11 seasons on NBC from 1993-2004. The show racked up 37 Emmy wins, including five straight for outstanding comedy series, over its lifespan. The series finale had Frasier leaving Seattle for Chicago, where he had followed his girlfriend, Charlotte (Laura Linney), in hopes of reuniting with her, while other members of his family moved into new phases of their own lives.

a tad overwhelmed by the Russian influence story

Note: This is the Mental Health Support Group. If you want conventional political debate and discussion, go to General Discussion, please.

I just listened to part of the Stephanie Miller show with Malcom Nance as the guest. I am quite sure he is sincere in his
beliefs, but he feels that we "might" lose our democracy in 100 days if the mid-terms go too much in the Republican
way. While I was listening, he did not define what "lose our democracy" means, but he talked about the Russians trying
to hack things so Democrats are aided and thus can be accused. Jesus, there was so much he said. He does have a book
to sell but he said, in so many words, that he doesn't expect to make any money from it.

I'm damn sure going to vote Democratic. My brother is going to vote Democratic. I think 99.99% of us on this site are going to vote, hopefully Democratic. The rest of the country ? I've seen the polls but after the 2016 disaster I'm not so sure they are accurate.

I have to stay away from this Russia stuff for a while.

Trump Expert David Cay Johnston Warns that Russia Has 'More Than 30 Years' of Blackmail Material on the President

https://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/trump-expert-david-cay-johnston-warns-russia-has-more-30-years-blackmail-material

Pulitzer-winning journalist David Cay Johnston said Tuesday on CNN that President Donald Trump is compromised by more than 30 years of information collected by Russia.

“We know the Russians have been courting Donald, spending money on him and putting money in his pocket for more than 30 years,” Johnston said. “Donald’s son, one of his sons, has said they were getting lots of money from Russians, and he’d been deeply involved with deals […] with Russian gangsters.”

“He believes in his own mind he’s better than the rest of us, and he should be in charge for life,” Johnston explained of the president's narcissism. “But Donald also knows that his tax returns are a real problem [...] Russian money is very important to Donald’s position."

Johnston elaborated that Trump's financial ties to Russia explain "why when he has no money and he had no credit, he was flush with cash through all sorts of deals as well as being bailed out a few years ago.”

DHS: Russian hackers got into control rooms of US utilities

Source: The Hill

Russian hackers were able to penetrate the control rooms of hundreds of U.S. utilities last year as part of a campaign against power company vendors that could be ongoing, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials told the Journal that hackers working for a state-sponsored group known as Dragonfly or Energetic Bear were able to get inside the networks of U.S. utilities to the point that they could have disrupted power service and caused blackouts.

“They got to the point where they could have thrown switches” said Jonathan Homer, chief of industrial-control-system analysis for DHS.

The department did not disclose which companies were victimized by the hacks, but indicated there were hundreds affected by the breach. Other companies reportedly may still be unaware they were part of the breach because the hackers may have broke in using employee credentials.

GOP Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick: 'The President Was Manipulated By Vladimir Putin'

https://www.npr.org/2018/07/22/631326586/gop-rep-brian-fitzpatrick-the-president-was-manipulated-by-vladimir-putin

A GOP congressman and former FBI agent says he thinks President Trump was manipulated by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick told NPR's Michel Martin on All Things Considered that he drew that conclusion after the two leaders appeared in Helsinki.

"The president was manipulated by Vladimir Putin," Fitzpatrick said. "Vladimir Putin is a master manipulator."

The Helsinki summit came days after special counsel Robert Mueller issued an indictment for 12 Russian intelligence agents accused of hacking Democratic emails and sowing confusion around the 2016 elections.

Fitzpatrick sits on the House committees on Foreign Affairs and Homeland Security. In his previous role as an FBI special agent, he said he was assigned to Ukraine and worked on counterintelligence, collecting Russian propaganda reports.

Zuckerberg Tries to Clarify Remarks About Holocaust Deniers After Outcry

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/18/technology/mark-zuckerberg-facebook-holocaust-denial.html

(x-post from Jewish Group)

Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook chief executive, said in an interview published Wednesday that he would not automatically remove denials that the Holocaust took place from the site, a remark that caused an uproar online.

Mr. Zuckerberg’s comments were made during an interview with the tech journalist Kara Swisher that was published on the site Recode. (Read the full transcript here.) Hours later, Mr. Zuckerberg tried to clarify his comments in an email to Recode.

In the interview, Mr. Zuckerberg had been discussing what content Facebook would remove from the site, and noted that in countries like Myanmar and Sri Lanka, the dissemination of hate speech can have immediate and dire consequences. Moments earlier, he had also defended his company’s decision to allow content from the conspiracy site Infowars to be distributed on Facebook.

“The principles that we have on what we remove from the service are: If it’s going to result in real harm, real physical harm, or if you’re attacking individuals, then that content shouldn’t be on the platform,” he said.

eta: Further down in the article, Zuckerberg says he is Jewish, finds Holocaust denial deeply offensive but doesn't think the HD advocates are "intentionally getting it wrong". Huh ?!
