steve2470's JournalGet off my yard smileys (emoticons) for ya
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10957748request for custom smiley, please
Ok, maybe I have a strange sense of humor, but as I get um more mature, "get off my yard" (GOMY) makes me smile when I gently self-mock myself for being a tad annoyed at times. Works for me, maybe not for others. YMMV.
Skinner is not real enthused about a GOMY smiley. That's cool. If I used it at DU, it would not be a hostile thing. It would be used to gently self-mock myself, as I said. You just have to trust me on that.
Does anyone have a GOMY smiley, or can you whip one up with not much work involved ? If it would take so much work to cost me money....I think I would have to pass on it. Thanks.

United Nations troops accused of killing two civilians in Congo
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/aug/26/un-accused-killing-two-congoUnited Nations troops have been accused of killing two civilians in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo as the body's first offensive force is dragged into an escalating conflict.
On Saturday, scores of angry residents took to the streets, complaining that the UN had not done enough to protect them. A UN car was set ablaze and, when the crowd allegedly tried to storm a UN base, two protesters were killed.
Witnesses claim that UN troops from Uruguay opened fire on the demonstrators, but the Uruguayan president, Jose Mujica, denied this, insisting that they only fired rubber bullets and it was Congolese police who used live ammunition.
The UN has opened an investigation into the incident, which has the potential to embarrass the 3,000-strong "intervention brigade" that was created in March and entered combat last week against the M23 rebel movement.
Developers flay Microsoft for withholding Windows 8.1 RTM
http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9241943/Developers_flay_Microsoft_for_withholding_Windows_8.1_RTM?source=rss_keyword_edpicks&google_editors_picks=trueComputerworld - Windows app developers today took Microsoft to task for the company's decision to withhold Windows 8.1 until mid-October.
Traditionally, Microsoft offers an RTM, or the "release to manufacturing" build of its programs, to developers several weeks before the code reaches the general public. The early availability lets developers complete their work and testing so that their apps are available when the OS launches.
Today, however, Microsoft confirmed that although Windows 8.1 has reached the RTM milestone and been passed to computer- and tablet-making OEMs, subscribers to MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network) will not get the final code until the public does on Oct. 17.
Microsoft explained that Windows 8.1 was, in fact, not finished, and used that as the reason for keeping the update out of the hands of developers and IT professionals, another group which historically has gotten early access.

I'm running Win8.1 Preview, love the boot to desktop feature. I'm used to it now.
