Idaho woman comes under fire for celebrating her killing of giraffe

Sabrina Corgatelli, an accountant for Idaho State University, appeared on NBC's "Today” show on Monday to defend trophy hunting amid mounting international outrage over last month's killing of Cecil, Zimbabwe's most famous lion, by an American dentist.
"Everybody thinks we're cold-hearted killers and it's not that," Corgatelli said in the nationally televised interview. "There is a connection to the animal, and just because we hunt them doesn’t mean we don't have a respect for them. Giraffes are very dangerous animals. They could hurt you seriously, very quickly."

Idaho State issued a statement on Monday distancing itself from the controversy, saying it was not a university matter.

During her interview with TODAY, Corgatelli expressed some concerns about her job, which has also become public knowledge. But she said her time off from work was approved and she’s on vacation.
"Everything I've done here is legal, so how can you fault somebody because of their hobbies?" Corgatelli said, adding that employers are always going to have employees who do things they don’t agree with in their spare time. "How can an employer chastise you for something you do on your personal time that's legally done?"
It appears that Idaho State University officials agree with her. They released the following statement on Monday:
“This is not an Idaho State University matter. While the individual in question is an employee, her personal choices are not representative of the University."

a quick rundown of what you should do if you're truly worried about security
1- Run the version of Linux designed to thwart the NSA, https://www.qubes-os.org/
2- Make sure your email is either 1) on your own personal server or 2) with an outfit like ProtonMail
3- Make sure your router is on DD-WRT, Tomato or some other safe variant. Routers are very vulnerable to being hacked.
4- Make sure all of your applications for messaging are secure.
5- Dig deep into the settings of everything you use to make sure it's doing what you want.
6- Think twice about using a password-saving service. I was using Lastpass, even they got hacked. Sorry, not taking any chances, I changed ALL of my passwords.
7- Check out Tor.
8- Stop giving out your info to companies unless absolutely required.
Myself, I'm not that careful. I use DD-WRT, I secure Windows as well as I can, I don't use a password service any more, I keep all my apps updated for security. Many of the problems happen because COMPANIES get hacked and agencies get hacked. That's where the real problem is. A lot of stuff needs to start going offline, IMHO. Given time, expertise and adequate resources, almost anything and anyone can be hacked. I say almost, because I'm willing to make an allowance for extremely high encryption and other "NSA-proof" measures that are diligently and daily applied.

Summer is over officially in 50 days :/
What's left on your bucket list for summer ? A vacation ? Doing outdoor maintenance and repair while it's still pretty warm ? Taking more walks outdoors ?
Of course, my summer here in Florida doesn't really end until, oh, Thanksgiving!

A few days ago, over 14 million machines had been upgraded to Windows 10, but millions of other people who used the “Get Windows 10” app are impatiently waiting for Microsoft to notify them that it is their turn to download Windows 10. The app says Microsoft is rolling out the free upgrade in waves; “Watch for your notification so that you can start your upgrade. Your notification to upgrade could come as soon as a few days or weeks.” That notification has become an exploitation opportunity for bad guys who are sending out fake Windows 10 upgrade emails along with supposedly zipped Windows 10 download attachments that ultimately install ransomware on victims’ PCs.
Some people didn’t wait on a notification and chose to use Microsoft’s media creation tool to download Windows 10, but others hesitated to use that method as they have don’t know their Windows product key; if they can’t find it in the registry, then they aren’t inclined to use a previously unknown third-party app to find it.
Other Microsoft users chose to force Windows 10 to install. That process includes a few steps: Delete everything in “C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download” which requires deleting them with admin rights. Right-click on start and then select Command Prompt (Admin); type in “wuauclt.exe /updatenow” (without quotes) but do not hit enter.
Some people didn’t wait on a notification and chose to use Microsoft’s media creation tool to download Windows 10, but others hesitated to use that method as they have don’t know their Windows product key; if they can’t find it in the registry, then they aren’t inclined to use a previously unknown third-party app to find it.

DANA POINT, Calif. — Charles Koch on Sunday compared the efforts of his political network to the fight for civil rights and other “freedom movements,” urging his fellow conservative donors to follow the lead of figures such as Frederick Douglass, Susan B. Anthony and Martin Luther King Jr.
“History demonstrates that when the American people get motivated by an issue of justice that they believe is just, extraordinary things can be accomplished,” Koch told 450 wealthy conservatives assembled in the ballroom of a lavish oceanfront resort here.
“Look at the American revolution, the anti-slavery movement, the women’s suffrage movement, the civil rights movement,” he said. “All of these struck a moral chord with the American people. They all sought to overcome an injustice. And we, too, are seeking to right injustices that are holding our country back.”
Koch’s remarks came at the start of a session about the strategy of the network, which aims to spend $889 million on issue advocacy, higher education grants and political activity by the end of next year. As part of the program, which was not open to the news media, officials from Chile gave presentations on the country’s economic and political history.
