Christine Blasey Ford feared an avalanche of attacks if she went public about Kavanaugh, friends say

https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/09/17/metoo-spurred-christine-blasey-ford-to-open-up-about-alleged-attack-year-before-kavanaugh-nomination-friends-say/

PALO ALTO — The fog was just lifting at Capitola beach one morning this July when Christine Blasey Ford confided in two friends. She had written her congresswoman and anonymously tipped off the Washington Post with her explosive story, claiming Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her in high school.

But now she was worried that her name would come out. She was bracing for an avalanche of attacks and searching her memory for anyone, anything, that could validate her story.

“I’ve been trying to forget this all my life, and now I’m supposed to remember every little detail,” one of those friends, Jim Gensheimer, recalled Blasey Ford saying that summer day while watching her kids participate in a Junior Lifeguard program. “They’re going to be all over me.”

Now, literally overnight, the 51-year-old Palo Alto University psychology professor, mother of two sons, registered Democrat and avid surfer has become the intense focus of a nation gripped by a political drama over nothing less than the future of the Supreme Court.

Trump orders Justice Dept. to declassify Russia-related material

Source: Washington Post

President Trump on Monday ordered the Justice Department to declassify significant materials from the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election, threatening to spur a showdown with federal law enforcement officials resistant to publicizing information from an ongoing probe.

In a statement, the White House said Trump was ordering the department to immediately declassify portions of the secret court order to monitor former campaign adviser Carter Page, along with all interviews conducted as officials applied for that authority.

Trump also instructed the department to publicly release the unredacted text messages of several former high-level Justice Department and FBI officials, including former FBI director James B. Comey and deputy director Andrew McCabe.

For months, conservative lawmakers have been calling on the department to release Russia-related and other materials, many of them accusing law enforcement of hiding information that might discredit the investigation now led by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III.

Narcissistic Sociopath Jr. accused Anderson Cooper of trying to make his father look bad

(which isn't hard to do at all)

Anderson Cooper spent several minutes totally debunking Don Jr's tweet (DonaldJTrumpJr/status/1041310008623943680 ). His tweet accused Anderson Cooper of standing in waist-deep water to fake water depth during Hurricane Florence, thus somehow making his father look bad (?). Anderson Cooper proved that the tweet photo was actually from 2008 and gave more details.

So, of course, now Don Jr. will send out more tweets defaming Anderson Cooper and maybe his dad will get in on the defamatory action as well. What a goddamn embarassment of a President and his family.

eta: don't need to show DJTjr's tweet

Squirrel King: Five creatures tied together by their own tails discovered in Wisconsin

SQUIRREL KING: FIVE CREATURES TIED TOGETHER BY THEIR OWN TAILS DISCOVERED IN WISCONSIN

https://www.newsweek.com/squirrel-king-five-creatures-tied-together-their-own-tails-discovered-1123422

Five hapless squirrel siblings have been caught in quite the bind in Wisconsin. Their fluffy tails became "hopelessly entangled" in their nest, leaving their fur tied together and matted with grass and plastic.

Luckily for the juvenile creatures, the local Humane Society’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Center was on hand to unwind the impossible knot.

The team anesthetized the squirrels to keep them still and slowly unraveled the tails. According to the center’s Facebook page, it took about 20 minutes of careful cutting to disentangle the ball of fur. Initially, the center stated, it was impossible to tell where one tail began and another ended.

"Bit by bit we snipped away at the grass-and-plastic knot with scissors, being very careful to make sure we weren't snipping anyone's tail in the process," the post said. "We were increasingly concerned because all of them had suffered from varying degrees of tissue damage to their tails caused by circulatory impairment."

There's No Stopping Toronto's 'Uber-Raccoon'

https://www.npr.org/2018/09/16/647599627/theres-no-stopping-toronto-s-uber-raccoon

Toronto has been called the "raccoon capital of the world."

The "trash pandas" — as they're (possibly) affectionately known — have been particularly adept at getting into Torontonians' garbage bins.

The raccoon scourge was bad enough that the city spent CA$31 million on "raccoon-resistant" organic green-colored waste bins in 2016. It was the latest assault in what Canadian media have called a "raccoon war."

The Toronto Star recently published a 6,000-word investigation on the bin battle.

"It began in January when I got a message from a friend saying the new green bins have eliminated the raccoon population in Toronto," says reporter Amy Dempsey, who broke the story. "This friend hadn't seen the family of raccoons that had been living in his yard."

Katz added that her client, Christine Blasey Ford, is "willing to do whatever it takes," including testifying before members of Congress about her allegations and that her coming forward is not a "politically motivated action."

Katz, a Washington lawyer known for her work on sexual harassment cases, is representing Ford after the woman identified herself in a report published Sunday in The Washington Post.

Michael Moore believes 'evil genius' Trump will be a two-term president

https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/16/entertainment/michael-moore-fahrenheit-11-9-donald-trump/index.html

Michael Moore believes President Donald Trump is an "evil genius" who will be re-elected.

The documentary filmmaker spoke to CNN while promoting his upcoming film about the impact of Trump's 2016 victory, "Fahrenheit 11/9."

"Too many people in the summer of 2016 were so sure Hillary [Clinton] was going to win, saying no one is going to vote for this idiot," Moore said. "He could win again. I operate as if he is a two-term Trump. I have to. If you think any other way you are guaranteeing that whoever is going to run against him will lose."

Moore's explanation to the phenomenon of a Trump presidency?

"I think the man is an evil genius and he was able to outsmart the smartest person ever to run for president," Moore said. "He figured out how to win by losing the election. How did that happen? Historians are going to deal with this for years to come."

Sorry, Mike, I cannot agree.
