Alan Alda of 'M.A.S.H.' reveals Parkinson's diagnosis

https://chicago.suntimes.com/entertainment/alan-alda-mash-parkinsons-disease

NEW YORK — Actor Alan Alda says he has Parkinson’s disease.

Appearing Tuesday on “CBS This Morning,” the former “M.A.S.H.” star said he was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disorder three and a half years ago. Alda says he expects a tabloid will soon publish a story about his diagnosis.

The 82-year-old says he’s not angry and considers it a challenge. Alda says he has acted and given talks since then. He says he could see his thumb twitch in a recent podcast and thought someone would soon do a sad story.

Alda says revealing his diagnosis might be helpful to others with Parkinson’s that there are things they can do.

This is terrible. Parkinson's is what killed my father. Best wishes and prayers for you, Mr. Alda.

Former Oakland Mayor, Congressman Ron Dellums dies

Source: Mercury News

OAKLAND — Ron Dellums, a former Oakland mayor who also served nearly three decades in the U.S. Congress, has died. He was 82.

Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) confirmed Dellums’ death Monday morning. He died Sunday after a battle with prostate cancer.

“It is with deep sadness that I can confirm the passing of a great warrior and statesman, Congressman Ron Dellums,” Lee said in a statement. “The contributions that Congressman Dellums made to our East Bay community, the nation and the world are too innumerable to count.”

Dellums served as Oakland’s 48th mayor from 2007-11, a term that started with high hopes but ended with his term characterized more by his absence from public view and his prickly attacks on the media.

A guy who seems to know meteorology well but climate ?

Note, I don't buy into the political and financial scheme based "Global Warming" which siphons trillions of dollars off of our worldwide populous monthly in the form of green taxes, carbon taxes, fuel surcharges which lead to product and shipping hikes, and jacked up storm and coastal flood insurance premiums.

The two are and should be separated as one is factual (climate change) and one is unproven to fradulent (man's direct contributions).

I follow this guy on Twitter for his highly technical weather analyzes but this shocked me. Granted, I knew he tended to lean a bit rightward but this shocked me.

I am not totally up to speed on climate change. On the "man's direct contribution front", he is 100% wrong, correct ? Now that I know he is so ignorant on this topic, I may stop following him for weather stuff.

Army 'on standby to deliver food and medicine' if no Brexit deal is reached

https://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/army-on-standby-to-deliver-food-and-medicine-if-no-brexit-deal-is-reached-a3898761.html

The Army could be drafted in to deliver emergency food, fuel and medicine if Britain exits the EU without a Brexit deal.

The military would be called in if blockages at ports after Britain leaves the EU led to shortages in supplies, ministers told the Sunday Times.

Blueprints usually reserved for civil emergencies have been included as part of the “no deal” planning, the newspaper reported.

Helicopters and army trucks could be used to carry medicine to vulnerable people outside the south-east.

From across the pond, it seems increasingly likely that without a new referendum or Parliamentary intervention, there will be no Brexit deal. If this is accurate, this is rather scary. Best wishes to our UK DU'ers.

Just how HOT is it in your part of the UK or continental Europe ?

I read that UK is just totally miserable right now.

I have a friend in NW Germany who is too hot.

DFW ? How bad is it where you are ?

Anyone else want to chime in ?

If you do not have AC and live in UK and Europe, my deepest sympathies!
We cannot survive in Florida without it (well you can but....).

Immigrant Youth Shelters: "If You're a Predator, It's a Gold Mine" (ProPublica report)

https://www.propublica.org/article/immigrant-youth-shelters-sexual-abuse-fights-missing-children?utm_campaign=sprout&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_content=1532709136

Update, July 27, 2018: This story has been updated to include responses from St. PJ’s Children’s Home and BCFS International Children’s Shelter.

Just five days after he reached the United States, the 15-year-old Honduran boy awoke in his Tucson, Arizona, immigrant shelter one morning in 2015 to find a youth care worker in his room, tickling his chest and stomach.

When he asked the man, who was 46, what he was doing, the man left. But he returned two more times, rubbing the teen’s penis through his clothing and then trying to reach under his boxers. “I know what you want, I can give you anything you need,” said the worker, who was later convicted of molestation.

In 2017, a 17-year-old from Honduras was recovering from surgery at the shelter when he woke up to find a male staff member standing by his bed. “You have it very big,” the man said, referring to the teen’s penis. Days later, that same employee brushed the teen with his hand while he was playing video games. When the staff member approached him again, the boy locked himself in a bathroom.

He won't be impeached. Just red meat for the deluded Trump base.
