Another resource to help computer users: "Ask Leo"

https://askleo.com/

Leo A. Notenboom used to work for Microsoft for 18 years, then retired. He seems very credible and writes in a way understandable to computer users who are beginners or maybe a bit more advanced. He explains the relevant tech jargon.

I like the guy and his approach. Check him out. He publishes a 5x a week email newsletter, and you can subscribe for $2 a month if you want to get rid of all the ads ( https://www.patreon.com/askleo ).

I do not work for him (honest). Just a fan. Hope this helps at least one person.

Running ChkDsk on Windows 10 20H2 may damage the file system and cause Blue Screens

Running ChkDsk on Windows 10 20H2 may damage the file system and cause Blue Screens

https://www.ghacks.net/2020/12/19/running-chkdsk-on-windows-10-20h2-may-damage-the-file-system-and-cause-blue-screens/

by Martin Brinkmann on December 19, 2020 in Windows - Last Update: December 19, 2020 - 22 comments

Microsoft's newest version of Windows 10, Windows 10 20H2, appears to have a bug that may damage the file system of the Windows partition and cause blue screens during reboots. Reports suggest that running ChkDsk on these devices may damage the file system and cause blue screens on the first reboot of the system after the check disk operation completes.

Günter Born provides details on the issue on his blog.

He narrates how one administrator discovered (German forum link) the issue after upgrading systems to Windows 10 20H2 and running the command chkdsk c: /f after the update installation. The command checks drive c: for errors to repair them right away if any are found.

AFAIK, Mr. Brinkmann is reputable. I use chkdsk at times. FYI.

Never in my lifetime did I think a sitting President would seriously discuss a military coup...

https://www.axios.com/trump-officials-alarmed-overturn-election-results-a844d1d2-acb2-47a9-87ce-ac579458b1ea.html

The big picture: Their fears include Trump's interest in former national security adviser Michael Flynn's wild talk of martial law

SNIP

A senior administration official said that when Trump is "retweeting threats of putting politicians in jail, and spends his time talking to conspiracy nuts who openly say declaring martial law is no big deal, it’s impossible not to start getting anxious about how this ends."

Yes, granted, I do not think this article or anything in the NY Times or Washington Post specifically says "military coup" but that's what all this adds up to. Using the military to obtain purely political objectives, such as staying in office. Banana republic type stuff.

ETA: Yes, I know the top brass of the military has stated several times they will not cooperate with any such nonsense. I am not worried about that, at all. My concern is that a President is even being ALLOWED to discuss it, without being removed posthaste. He should have been removed, legally, by now.

Will any Republican advocate the 25th Amendment, tell him to resign NOW, or tell him to cut the shit ? Nope. If Romney does, I'd be surprised, but on the national level he's probably the most likely to tell him to resign publicly. A trip with a few Republican Senators to the White House a la 1974 Goldwater to tell him to resign ? Not happening.

We have some very serious work ahead. The country has very serious work ahead, to reinforce our democratic ideals, principles and norms.

Sincere question: Waste of time for President-elect Biden to go on FauxNews, OANN and Newsmax ?

Before you start typing, yes, I realize that IF...he was granted an interview, he would *probably* be attacked and they would try to slice and dice the interview to make him look bad. He would have to cope with propaganda and probably bogus questions about his son and the legitimacy of his election, all based on lies.

The theory behind my question is, taking the fight to the "enemy", so to speak. Going into the den of lions and hoping to accomplish something. Total waste of time, or maybe he could get some good points across ?

George Schultz (who was Secretary of State) is 100 years old ! His essay on trust

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/12/11/10-most-important-things-ive-learned-about-trust-over-my-100-years/

George P. Shultz is a former U.S. secretary of labor, treasury and state, and was director of the Office of Management and Budget. He is a distinguished fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.

Dec. 13 marks my turning 100 years young. I’ve learned much over that time, but looking back, I’m struck that there is one lesson I learned early and then relearned over and over: Trust is the coin of the realm. When trust was in the room, whatever room that was — the family room, the schoolroom, the locker room, the office room, the government room or the military room — good things happened. When trust was not in the room, good things did not happen. Everything else is details.

There are countless examples of how that lesson was brought home to me across the past century, but here are 10 of the most important.

I first saw the concept in action at home by observing how my parents treated one another and their friends and family. One hundred years later, I can still sense the steadfast love that my parents had for each other and for me, their only child. My mother made our home comfortable and welcoming; my father took me on jaunts out into the world, from his Wall Street office on Saturday mornings to a cross-country train trip when I was 8 years old. My early boyhood memories underlined the joy of family closeness and how it creates powerful bonds of trust.

Much more at link above. Worth reading, to me.

State police raided the home of a former Department of Health data scientist Monday morning who is accusing Florida officials of wrongfully firing her for refusing to manipulate COVID-19 statistics.

Rebekah Jones, a vocal critic of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ handling of the pandemic, tweeted a video showing officers entering her home with guns drawn.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement served a search warrant at Jones’ Tallahassee home in connection with an investigation that started Nov. 10, Gretl Plessinger, an FDLE spokeswoman, said in a prepared statement.

The Department of Health filed a complaint with FDLE regarding unauthorized access to a DOH messaging alert system used for emergencies, she said.

Poll: Pence will be pressured to pardon Trump, his kids, and his criminal associates

just curious. If you think this is a waste of time, etc...feel free to move on.

The poll is based on the assumption that Trump resigns so Pence can pardon him. If Trump refuses to resign, then of course the poll is moot.

The difference between a Democratic rally and a Trump/Fascist rally ?

Exhibit A:

Sharon Tanner, a school bus driver, had traveled with her family from Moultrie, Ga., to attend the rally. When asked who was going to be inaugurated Jan. 20, Tanner said she thought it would be Trump, not Biden.

“God’s going to open their mouths and let the truth come out,” she said.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/12/05/trump-obama-events-heat-up-georgia-senate-races-before-voter-registration-deadline/

I dare the Fascists (aka the GOP) to find a comparable example from a Democratic rally of such pure ignorance and stupidity. I do think that if a Democrat or person at a Democratic rally did not know something, they would frankly admit it and not say something so stupid.

I hope on January 20th, that Ms. Tanner realizes the error of her thinking, and resolves to research facts before uttering similar statements.

eta:

I really hope this guy is trolling. If not...he's Exhibit B

New Jersey officials shut down a restaurant that hosted a mask-free New York Young Republicans gala

Source: Yahoo News

New York and New Jersey officials are disturbed that a Republican club on Thursday hosted a gala with 150 mask-less people in attendance, including Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz.

A day after the event, New Jersey Mayor Steven Fulop shut down the Maritime Parc, the restaurant that hosted the gala, according to a statement. Fulop ordered the restaurant to close indefinitely after photos circulated on social media showing mask-less attendees, including Gaetz, smiling and packed close together indoors.

The event was an annual gala thrown by the New York Young Republicans Club.

Fulop said the restaurant will remain closed until the owners create a viable plan detailing how they will comply with coronavirus-related restrictions and mandates. The plan must be submitted to and reviewed by the state's health department.

and here is the response from Florida PUTZ Gaetz to Governor Murphy:

Somehow I think he will be celebrated in Florida, unless he moves, inexplicably, to some backwoods Republican stronghold.
