***I've got two problems*** about the current contest - submissions are soaring in

The fact we got 18 submissions in the first day is NOT a problem.

The fact that some of the photos are too large is against the rules, and I wish the folks who submitted them would go to postimages.org and size them down.
It's how I would do it, but I'm busy with re-visiting America the beautiful in my archives which brings me to my second problem

So far I have 7 entry possibilities, and I can not, at this point, decide.

A long time ago - in the photo group - folks who were indecisive posted a questionnaire poll in the photo group and asked the others which they liked best.
It actually was fun, and the person who asked did not really have to follow the advice of the poll's results, and sometimes did and other times did not.

I might do that tomorrow. Just announcing it, in case I do, so folks who have not been around that long realize it's an old photography habit coming to the fore again.

*****Submission Thread for the February Contest***"NATIONAL and State Parks***

THIS IS THE THREAD FOT SUBMITTING YOUR PHOTOGRAPH - WITH A TITLE - if you want to make a comment go here:

https://www.democraticunderground.com/103683409

The theme of the contest is:
“NATIONAL and State Parks”

The theme was chosen by DUer Xolodno who won the January contest. Questions have come up about enlarging the theme a bit, considering the fact we are under a travel ban, that some of us are not in the US of A, and all of us pretty much need to search our archives.

So we have expanded it to include National Monuments, nature preserves, recreational areas run by the US Park Service. And then there was a question about Great Britain, and that’s OK too.
Use your judgment and chances are I will not be difficult. Though I tell you now, this is not a for cute pet portraits.
I am very curious what you will come up with, so let us see what you've got.
I let this submission thread run til the 16th then we proceed with the voting.

MONTHLY CONTEST:
Only one entry of your own original work per person, unless/until the Volunteer Host opens Submissions for second entries. You need to post your entry in the submission thread started by the Host of a contest. Please be sure to include a "Title" for your photograph in the Subject line of your post. The submission thread is for photo entries only, no comments, no questions. The Host will start a separate thread just for comments and questions.

Once a photo is entered in a contest it is ineligible for any future contest unless the Host specifies otherwise.

The Winner of the contest is the one that comes up with the Theme of the next contest. They can just decide on a theme or may ask for suggestions and then run a poll to pick one of them. Either way the Theme will always be at the discretion of the person who won the contest.

The Volunteer Host has the option of adding other rules to the contest they are hosting. An example would be no Black & White or all Black & White entries.

The Volunteer Host has the option of declaring the submissions being blind (no one knows who entered which photo) or public. Should the Host op for blind submissions it is their responsibility to instruct entrants on how to get their entries to the host. The Volunteer Host may enter a contest as long as the Volunteer Host is not the previous winner and has not selected the theme for the contest which they are hosting.

Submissions will be limited to 30 entries maximum unless the Photography Group votes to change the limits.

As stated the Winner of the contest agrees to pick the next month's theme. The Winner of the monthly contest may not enter the contest for which they selected a theme.

CONTEST LICENSE:

An entrant to this contest, by submitting a photograph, is giving permission for that photograph to be copied to Demopedia or to a linked Gallery and included in a DU Calendar that will display the photographs entered for this contest for the purpose of publicizing future contests and/or commemorating current and past contests. The entrant retains all other rights to the photograph being submitted. Neither Demopedia and/or a linked Gallery may use any photograph submitted for any purpose other than to display the photograph being submitted by the entrant, and neither gains any real or implied ownership rights to the photograph.
Thesubmissions will run until Feb 15 - or until we have 30 submissions. I may well allow a second photo, and will announce that later on in the allotted time period.

*****Theme for the February Contest*****NATIONAL AND STATE PARKS

The winner of the January contest named the theme, and here are Xolodno's words:

I'm a huge fan of National and State Parks, so lets run with that theme. I won't participate as I have thousands of photos of them, but will be anxious to see what anyone else has, perhaps even inspire me to visit one I haven't been to yet.

Xolodno, according to our new rules cannot participate because he/she named the theme.
But I can - according to those very same new rules.

There is no question in my mind that most of us, if not all, have to go to our archives. Trips are not exactly advisable at the moment.
I'm excited about the theme, we will get to pretend we are out in the vast beauty of America.

So for now, let's get our search for photos going. I will start the submissions on

Feb. 8 and run them until the 16th or until 30 photos have been entered

I will start the preliminaries on the 19th and run them for three days

The finals will start on the 22nd and run three days
Winners will be announced on the 25th and then we can celebrate them for the rest of the short month.

I will post a notice of the theme and a link to this in GD and in the Lounge.

As I suspect all of us will somehow go down memory lanes of visits to our wonderful parks, I hope you enjoy the journey and find a photo you want to share.

For now the only stipulation for your entry is to ready it no larger than 1024 pixels in its longest dimension and under 675K in file size.
