They are saying that the guy on the ground is in his 60s. The tv news seems to be acting like it is suspect 2, but that doesn't match the scanners.

Is "figures" actually a word?

Not like "action figures" or "charts and figures" but like "he figures."

Is it really a word?

Read this "news story"

"Them little eyes, they don't miss nothing," Jeff Stevens said.

An experienced hunter, Jeff Stevens didn't figure this skull could belong to any animal.

"About this big and about 3/8 thick on the skull part. I've killed a little bit of everything there is and there ain't no skull I've ever seen that looked like that except a human just in seeing pictures and stuff," he said.

He said their dog, Annie, is always dragging stuff up into the yard from the woods and figures that's how it ended up just feet away from their home.

The April thing

I'm so sick of the 3rd week of April terrorism - its like copy cats.

Branch Davidians, Oklahoma city, Columbine, Virginia Tech.

The time is associated with the first shots of revolutionary war (April 19th) and Hitler's birthday (April 20).

yeah. and it can get kind of crunchy and nice

I just like taking it off though, can't defend it.

'Don't say gay' takes on a new meaning

I think this article is pretty biased, but I thought it might give insights to people from other places about the local attitudes here. I originally posted it in LBN but was asked to post it here instead because it is an analysis not news - the story is here:

Spurred by Hollywood depictions, flip-flopping among national politicians and a persistent homosexual-rights offensive, popular sentiment about gay marriage has shifted dramatically and swiftly. In 2001, Americans opposed same-sex marriage by a 57 percent to 35 percent margin. This year, polling shows a reversal. Forty-nine percent of the country say they are for legalizing gay marriage and 44 percent remain opposed, according to the Pew Research Center.

The rise in favor is sharpest among the millennial generation, those born since 1981. In 2003, only 51 percent of young Americans were in favor of legalizing gay marriage, now 70 percent are. Those unaffiliated with a religious group show support at similar levels. Only 38 percent of baby boomers are in favor, and only 24 percent of white evangelicals, an increase from 13 percent white evangelicals in 2001, Pew reports.

---+-----
Only the Deep South states, including Tennessee, remain opposed. In 2012, 59.4 percent of Georgia residents said they wouldn't be in favor of legalizing gay marriage, according to a Landmark Communications/Rosetta Stone poll.

Yet even in Tennessee, where more people are opposed to gay marriage than any other state in the South -- 62 percent -- according to Middle Tennessee State University polling, many are reluctant to express their qualms with others.

Southeast Georgia man accused in attack on neighbor’s pig jailed

http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2013/apr/05/southeast-georgia-man-accused-attack-neighbors-pig/

SPRINGFIELD, Ga. — A southeast Georgia man is in jail after authorities say he unleashed his dogs on a neighbor’s pet pig and then stabbed the animal 15 to 20 times with a knife.

Effingham County Sheriff’s Office spokesman David Ehsanipoor says Benjamin Fullwood was charged Wednesday with felony cruelty to animals and obstruction of justice.

Ehsanipoor said the pig got out of its owner’s yard and wandered into a mobile home park. Residents were trying to get in touch with the owner.

Ehsanipoor says Fullwood unleashed his two pit bulls on the pig and then began stabbing the pig himself in front of a group of bystanders including children.

Fullwood was in jail and a bond hearing was set for today. The pig was in serious condition at a vet’s office.

Gov. Bill Haslam drops voucher plan

Source: Nashville Tennessean

Gov. Bill Haslam abruptly withdrew his proposal for school vouchers Wednesday after he and the bill’s sponsor in the state Senate failed to get guarantees from fellow Republicans that they would not try to expand the measure.

Haslam and Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris, R-Memphis, asked the Senate Education Committee not to hear Senate Bill 196 at its final meeting Wednesday afternoon. The move came because committee members planned to pursue amendments to the bill. Haslam has said he would not entertain changes.

--------------
Haslam proposed offering as many as 5,000 vouchers to low-income students in poorly performing schools next fall, ramping up to 20,000 by 2016. The governor has described his plan as a conservative approach that would help students in the worst schools.

-------------------

But some Republican lawmakers, led by Education Committee Chairwoman Dolores Gresham, R-Somerville, and state Sen. Brian Kelsey, R-Germantown, have favored a more expansive plan that would give as many as 10,000 vouchers next year to families statewide. Their proposal also would have raised income level so that a family of four could have made nearly $75,000 annually and qualified.

WOOOHOOO!!!!!

It is just a matter of time until the gerrymandered state gets this through, but at least we won't have to worry about money going to Muslim schools for the time being!!

Tennessee May Deliberately Exclude Muslim Schools From New Voucher Program

This is just amazing to me. The republicans are trying to get in vouchers so they can pay for religious education, but then they finally figure out "wait a minute, that means muslims could pay for muslim school too!"

Isn't that what we've been telling you about prayer in school for years you stupid rednecks?

So, now they want to use the money only for "judeo-christian" schools. What part of separation of church and state are that not getting here? Not only will public money support religious education, but now they want to pick and chose which one.

Several conservative lawmakers in Tennessee are throwing the brakes on a fast-moving bill that would divert money away from public schools and towards vouchers for students to attend private or parochial schools. Republicans are taking a second look at the bill after the possibility arose that some Islamic schools could apply for the same funding made available to other religious schools.

The bill is a top priority for Republican Governor Bill Haslam, but several anti-religion lawmakers in the state senate, led by Sen. Bill Ketron who sponsored several anti-Islam bills in the last few years, are hoping to strip away the ability for any school that caters to Muslim children and their families to receive public dollars:

“This is an issue we must address,” state Sen. Jim Tracy (R-Shelbyville) said. “I don’t know whether we can simply amend the bill in such a way that will fix the issue at this point.”

====
Ketron has cultivated a reputation as the state’s chief Islamophobe, proposing a bill in 2011 that could have introduced punishments of up to 15 years in jail for any Muslim who observed the holy month of Ramadan or prayed five times a day towards Mecca, a religious requirement for observant Muslims.

Georgia high school students organize first integrated prom

Source: wfsa

MACON, GA (WGXA/CNN/WALB) – Students at Wilcox County High School in south Georgia share classrooms and sports fields, but they don't share the same dances. Some students are aiming to change that.

--

"There's a white prom and then we have our integrated prom," said Bloodworth.

If any race other than Caucasian tries to attend the white prom, Bloodworth said they "would probably have the police come out there and escort them off the premises."

That was the case just last year as a biracial student was turned away by police.
