I just voted. Little election to replace a school board member in my district today

Arrived at 7 and was voter 32. Retiring member is a republican on what is supposed to be a non-partisan position, but has become increasing partisan thanks to home schooling/tea party clowns trying to strip money out of the public schools. The Democratic sponsored candidate is Karen Key-Gamarra.

Wish more people saw value in the tiny unknown, un-publicized elections. They affect your live much more directly than Presidents and Senators, plus these local election is where future candidates get their start. It is important to stop certain candidates early.

Pardons a guilty felon before sentencing? Why the silence from the GOP?

1000s of ethics violations? Why the silence from the GOP?
Nepotism? Cronyism? Corruption, Possible treason? Why the silence from the GOP?

Hold the GOP accountable. Media? Do the the right thing.

Travel Advice Sought

Driving up to Maine in a few weeks and need a place to stop and waste a day.

Thinking of Bridgeport or New Haven in Connecticut

or Newport, RI

Any suggestions? We like good food and brewing scenes, historic places, things to see, etc.

What say you DU?

PS, thought of posting this into one of the places forum, but they don't have a New England group.
PPS, yes, I've heard of Boston.

On opposite sides of barbed-wire fence, an enduring friendship formed in Scouting

Norman Mineta was a proud 10-year-old Cub Scout in 1942 when the U.S. government began imprisoning Japanese-Americans. Japan had bombed Pearl Harbor months earlier, and Mineta and his family became six of the 120,000 people of Japanese descent interned by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Mineta and his parents, two sisters and brother were moved from San Jose, Calif., to the Heart Mountain Relocation Center in Cody, Wyo. The camp opened 75 years ago this month.

As a member of the Heart Mountain Boy Scout troop, Mineta met Alan Simpson, a Boy Scout who lived in Cody. The Cody Scouts traveled to Heart Mountain for a jamboree held inside the camp’s barbed-wire fencing. Mineta and Simpson became fast friends, bonding over their shared love of comics, silly stories and Scouting.

Thirty years later, when Mineta was a Democratic representative from California and Simpson a Republican senator from Wyoming, the two remained friends. (Simpson served as a senator for 18 years, and Mineta later became secretary of transportation under President George W. Bush.) Seven decades after they met, Mineta and Simpson — now both 85 — remain friends. As reported in The Washington Post, the pair returned to Heart Mountain this month to speak out against the racism that led to the camp’s opening.

What is the consensus on the Camp David weekend for Trumpy?

Was firing Bannon the main goal or just rearranging the deck chairs on the Trump-tanic?

August 17, 2017

Written in 1993, this Dead Milkmen song really describes Trumpy

He's quiet on the inside
Something from his past
Come on the surface
But that's never gonna last
Say one wrong word
Something nobody knew
What's in his head
No one has a clue

He's a little volcano
Watch him blow his mind
He walks the earth
Fires burn in his side (eyes)
Little volcano
Watch the lava flow
What makes him mad
I never know

Don't push him too far
Stay out of his way
With his fire and hair
He's coming to play
You said the wrong thing
Now he's right in your face
He just might explode
You're getting on his case

He's a little volcano
Watch him blow his mind
He walks the earth
Fires burn in his side (eyes)
Little volcano
Watch the lava flow
What makes him mad
I never know

Little volcano
No no no
Little volcano
Go go go
Little volcano
He's gonna blow
Aahhhh!

He's a little volcano
Watch him blow his mind
He walks the earth
Fires burn in his side (eyes)
Little volcano
Watch the lava flow
What makes him mad
I never know

Little volcano
Watch him blow his mind
He walks the earth
Fires burn in his side (eyes)
Little volcano
Watch the lava flow
What makes him mad
You'll never know

Obamas administration requested a Bikeshare station at the WH. Trumps team just had it removed

The Trump administration has dismantled aspects of Obama’s legacy, big and small — including the Capital Bikeshare station that was installed on the White House grounds at the request of the Obama administration.

The District’s Department of Transportation confirmed Wednesday that it removed the nine-slot Bikeshare station this week at the Trump administration’s request.

Unlike every other Bikeshare station in the region, this one was not accessible to the public and could only be used by commuters who had access to White House grounds. The Obama administration requested the station in 2010.

I guess the current vermin at the WH slink in and out thru cracks, under door frames, and via sewer pipes.

Word of the day: ullage

ul·lage
ˈəlij/
noun: ullage

the amount by which a container falls short of being full.
loss of liquid by evaporation or leakage.

Most of the unknown words I come across are lame. The amount something falls short is a great definition.
