Golf, handshakes and a Mar-a-Lago conga line: Squandered week highlights Trump’s lack of COVID-19 focus

Armed with all of that evidence, President Donald Trump spent the next week treating COVID-19 in much the same way that he had over the previous two months: he hosted large gatherings at Mar-a-Lago, went golfing, attended fundraisers, dispensed misinformation about the virus and flouted social distancing guidelines known to stem its spread. If his behavior was meant to be a model for Americans to follow, the message was clear — life could proceed as normal.

Trump and his closest supporters now insist that he always understood the threat COVID-19 posed to the U.S., despite his repeated assurances that it was under control and less harmful than the flu. But perhaps the clearest indication of Trump’s dismissal of the threat the virus posed is an examination of how he spent the week leading up to Friday March 13, when he declared that the virus constituted a national emergency.

AP: Trump quietly shuts down asylum at US borders to fight virus

FILE - In this Thursday, March 14, 2019, file photo, a Border Patrol agent talks with a group suspected of having entered the U.S. illegally near McAllen, Texas. The Trump administration has quietly shut down the nation's asylum system for the first time in decades amid coronavirus concerns, largely because holding people in custody is considered too dangerous. (AP Photo/Eric Gay, File)

The U.S. government used an obscure public health law to justify one of its most aggressive border crackdowns ever. People fleeing violence and poverty to seek refuge in the U.S. are whisked to the nearest border crossing and returned to Mexico without a chance to apply for asylum. It eclipses President Donald Trump's other policies to curtail immigration — which often rely on help from Mexico — by setting aside decades-old national and international laws.

4pt mini series on Netflix - "Unorthodox" - captivating to me!

Such a unique film. I learned so much about Hasidic group from Williamsburg NYC. Drama so strong. 5 stars.

Review on decider.com :
If you’re looking for an engaging weekend binge, the new Netflix limited series Unorthodox may just be for you.

Based on Deborah Feldman’s New York Times bestselling memoir of the same name, the four-episode show follows the story of Esty (Shira Haas), a young woman who leaves her radicalized upbringing and arranged marriage in Brooklyn to start a new life in Berlin. Described by Netflix as a “part coming of age story” and part thriller, Unorthodox has garnered critical acclaim, currently boasting a pitch-perfect 100% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes.
