Lesson from 1918 re: mask wearing.

675,000 Americans died of Spanish flu. We're nearing 900,000 American deaths with Covid-19.

Was it the same stubborn/libertarian/anti-government streak? Are we less healthy than 100 years ago? The result of conspiracy theories overriding science? Or something else?

Maybe we should have thrown certain anti-science types into a for profit prison...

ERA ratification held up by a memo from 2020

A Trump-Era Memo Is Blocking The Equal Rights Amendment From Being Ratified Today

The Equal Rights Amendment, which ensures women have equal protections under the law, should become the 28th Amendment of the Constitution this week.

Debate or not to debate? That is the question.

A talking filibuster might actually prevent more filibusters because debate means shining a light on important issues that the Teapublican party stands alone on.

We have the facts, the votes, the high road and an opportunity to force a talking filibuster.

DO IT!!!

4 years ago we needed three Republicans to save the ACA.

And we got them. It took people sleeping in hallways of the Capitol and hounding the hell out of all Republicans. It worked. And we had a blue tidal wave during the midterms.

Why isn't it happening with voting rights? Possibly because it isn't imminent death? It won't bankrupt the voter to not vote? This is all too shortsighted.

I recall Obama's speech in Chicago 10 days before he graciously handed off the keys to the Oval Office. He charged us all to do more. We are great at finding tweets and interesting headlines, and staying abreast of the dark actions of the Republican Party. I just fear we need more action that we are not providing.

How do we get charged up enough to get out and confront them in those halls?

Please respond with any and all ideas

Directv drops OAN.

DirecTV Dumping OAN In Major Blow To Right-Wing News Operation

Isn't OAN the network that AT&T funded from the get-go? I read that and it sealed the deal for us to leave them.

Spectrum News! A great bonus for leaving AT&T.

Spectrum has a dedicated local SoCal news station and another for Costa Mesa matters. A ton of local matters. Arts - Politics - food - local activities. Positivity on one channel.

Neither channel feature violence or car chases. And that is part of Spectrum News mission statement.

"Spectrum News operates on a model of not carrying news about violent crimes, common auto accidents and fires (known in the industry as 'if it bleeds, it leads' journalism), unless a story involving one is so large and affecting, that coverage is effectively required to remain competitive."

Ayn Rand's wildest dream came true.

Not sure what Alan Greenspan makes of the deterioration of the GOP, but I'd like to hear from him.

"Rand described Objectivism as "the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute".

10 years ago the "tea party took flight. Notably two of its biggest championship are gone - Paul Ryan and David Koch. But the damage is done. Two Russians seem to be responsible for the destruction of our democracy. Did Rand intentionally intend to destroy our country?

California (under attack) taxpayers paid for Elder's rise

He is going to win the Republican nomination next June because Republicans are radical here. But from reading about Elder's watch party - in my neighborhood of Costa Mesa!!! - his platform is homelessness, crime, housing, education *cough, *cough. That's bunk. And merely a ploy to appeal to the middle.

He surged ahead of better candidates because he already had a radical following. But our tax dollars paid for this unwanted recall that served to obliterate the moderates.

Is this a good or a bad thing? The methods of recall elections in CA has to change. It is too easy , too expensive, and is being exploited.

From the L.A. Times:
"But dominion over a small conservative “resistance” — dominated by a shrinking minority of older, white voters — is not a formula to return Republicans to power in California, said GOP consultant Mike Madrid. “You can say you remained pure in defeat, but that’s just a martyr candidacy,” Madrid said. “It appeals to a core group that is the fastest-shrinking demographic in the state and in the country.”

What I clearly see is a party of exploitation by amoral politicians and media con men. How long have we been a country of amorality? Old words like "scruples" are going extinct along with civility itself. We need a rebirth.
