Obama grabs wide lead among those who have already voted: Reuters/Ipsos poll
WASHINGTON | Sun Oct 14, 2012 1:15am EDT
By Andy Sullivan
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney are neck and neck in opinion polls, but there is one area in which the incumbent appears to have a big advantage: those who have already cast their ballots.
Obama leads Romney by 59 percent to 31 percent among early voters, according to Reuters/Ipsos polling data compiled in recent weeks.
The sample size of early voters is relatively small, but the Democrat's margin is still well above the poll's credibility interval - a measurement of polls' accuracy - of 10 percentage points. (full graphic: http://bit.ly/RmeEen)
With the November 6 election just more than three weeks away, 7 percent of those surveyed said they had already voted either in person or by mail (full graphic: http://bit.ly/SWm5YR).

Former aide to Scott Walker convicted of embezzlement
MILWAUKEE | Fri Oct 12, 2012 10:41pm EDT
By Brendan O'Brien
MILWAUKEE (Reuters) - A former aide to Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker was convicted on Friday of stealing money from a fund for families of U.S. soldiers who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan.
A jury in Milwaukee County Circuit Court found Kevin Kavanaugh guilty of embezzling more than $42,000 from Operation Freedom, a military appreciation event held each year at the Milwaukee County Zoo.
Kavanaugh, who worked for Walker when the first-term Republican governor served as Milwaukee County executive, faces up to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine. Sentencing is expected on December 7.
Kavanaugh, 62, was the treasurer of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, a charity involved in Operation Freedom, from 2006 to 2009. Walker appointed him to serve on the Milwaukee County Veteran Service Commission during Walker's term as Milwaukee County executive.

Who Won the Debate Tonight Joe Biden Mops the Floor With Paul Ryan Seriously it Was Bad
Of course, you cant ever really win a presidential debate. Stay with me here: There is no point system, there are no game rules (and the rules that do exist are constantly broken), and there is no end game. The audience will be split every time, usually down partisan lines.
But on Thursday night Joe Biden mopped the floor with Ryan. Seriously, it was watching a dad lecture his 13-year-old son.
In the only vice presidential debate, Biden completely dominated all facets of the debate from foreign policy, the national debt, taxes, and even social issues like abortion boldly hammering through policy points and the Obama administration's policy decision rationales, and strongly defending his partys stances on the issues.
Republican rival Paul Ryan looked shaky, out of breath, and out of things to say. Many times he looked down at the table, or the floor, or somewhere else it was like he knew every word he was saying was wrong.
Already in the early goings of the debate it was all Biden, who held a fierce, intense, and relentless critique of Paul Ryan and the GOP tickets policies. Ryan looked very much younger, less experienced, and was frequently getting interrupted by Biden as he tried to string together responses.
In one candid moment of the debate, Ryan addressed the vice president saying, "I know you're under duress." He was addressing Obamacare and Medicare, to which Biden responded, "I heard that death panel debate argument from Sarah Palin." BOOM.

Bullied Canadian Teen Commits Suicide After Posting Last-Ditch Cry for Help on YouTube
By Neetzan Zimmerman, Oct 11, 2012 6:35 PM
A 15-year-old girl from Metro Vancouver reportedly committed suicide last night, just over a month after posting a YouTube video recounting how bullying forced her to switch schools and drove her to drugs, alcohol, and self-harm.
In the video, Amanda Todd describes on cue cards her experiences with both real-world and online bullying. She says she recalls being severely beaten by classmates and having nude photos of her circulated on the web.
"I'm struggling to stay in this world, because everything just touches me so deeply," Todd says. "I'm not doing this for attention. I'm doing this to be an inspiration and to show that I can be strong."

On Facebook, a page called "Rest in paradise Amanda Michelle Todd" had over 5,500 likes at the time of writing. The Twitter hashtags #RIPAmanda and #RIPAmandaTodd were both trending in Canada. And YouTuber users were asked to repost Todd's video in order to raise awareness and keep her memory alive.

Mother Of Slain SEAL Tells Romney To Stop Talking About Her Son
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio At a town hall here Wednesday, Mitt Romney re-told a story he first revealed earlier this week about meeting one of the Navy SEALs who would later be killed in the attacks on the Benghazi consulate.

It's a compelling story, offering a surprisingly personal link between the candidate and the tragedy in Libya but it's one the SEAL's mother wants him to stop telling.
Wednesday morning, NBC's Boston affiliate reported that Doherty's mother thought Romney was taking advantage of her son's death.
"I don't trust Romney," Barbara Doherty told WHDH 7. "He shouldn't make my son's death part of his political agenda. It's wrong to use these brave young men, who wanted freedom for all, to degrade Obama."

WASHINGTON -- A pro-life, family-values congressman who worked as a doctor before winning election as a Tea Party-backed Republican had an affair with a patient and later pressured her to get an abortion, according to a phone call transcript obtained by The Huffington Post.
The congressman, Rep. Scott DesJarlais of Tennessee, was trying to save his marriage at the time, according to his remarks on the call, made in September of 2000. And, according to three independent sources familiar with the call and the recording, he made the tape himself.
DesJarlais, who was provided a copy of the transcript by HuffPost, did not deny its contents, but in a statement released through his campaign characterized it as just another sordid detail dredged up by the opposition. "Desperate personal attacks do not solve our nation's problems, yet it appears my opponents are choosing to once again engage in the same gutter politics that CBS news called the dirtiest in the nation just 2 years ago."
That race featured charges culled from DesJarlais' divorce from Susan DesJarlais, which was finalized in 2001. The filing included allegations that he held a gun in his own mouth for hours in one instance and that he "dry fired" a gun outside his wife's bedroom in another.
