Regarding NICS laws and Background Checks. A question.

I just read this about federal checks: https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/nics/appeals/nics-appeals-process/reasons-nics-background-checks-are-denied-or-delayed

A federal prohibition would exist for any person who:

Has been convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year
Is a fugitive from justice
Is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance
Has been adjudicated as a mental defective or committed to a mental institution
Is an alien illegally or unlawfully in the United States or who has been admitted to the United States under a non-immigrant visa
Has been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions
Having been a citizen of the United States, has renounced U.S. citizenship
Is subject to a court order that restrains the person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child of such intimate partner
Has been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence
Is under indictment for a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year

I know that I can cross post this to the other group but I feel more comfortable asking this here.

When a person is denied or delayed a gun purchase, are they informed as to the reason why? Are they just simply denied?

Anyone familiar with what happens after a gun purchase is denied?

Is there any chance that DU may eventually accommodate embedded tweets?

For example, this tweet, and it is random :

Oliver Willis @owillis
trump: "am i gonna check every statistic?" it ain't like im running for no important job or nothin' bill. c'mon, who cares, whateva
By clicking the embed function one can copy and get the embed code:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">trump: "am i gonna check every statistic?" it ain't like im running for no important job or nothin' bill. c'mon, who cares, whateva</p>— Oliver Willis (@owillis) <a href="https://twitter.com/owillis/status/668978317291356160">November 24, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

We already can post youtube vids by posting basic code, would it be terribly difficult to have the twitter code be read by DU?

Is it Disruptive Meta to call out a protected group out in GDP or GD?

I am not sure if this has been asked before. I know that groups hosts are allowed to run their groups as they see fit. Having said that, is it ok for posts in groups, protected or not to be called out on in the main forums?

I see it happening a lot with candidate groups as of late but I have seen it with other groups.

Generally, I feel like these are a callout of a group. I know it is different than an individual callout which is usually hidden by hosts. The hosts gets a lot of SoP alerts for these as Disruptive Meta and often the reasoning behind the leave or locks are really inconsistent.

I suspect there is no easy answer since I have a difficult time with this as well but some input would be appreciated.

I think it is time for an **elleng** appreciation thread!

She posts threads about Martin O'MAlley tirelessly and with true enthusiasm not just here but also out there in GDP.

I am am her co-host of the group and I swear, she is the one who makes this place what it is:

An Awesome place to learn about a candidate that I would very much like to see as the Democratic Nominee for the President of the United State of America.

If ANYONE — here on DU or elsewhere — wants to know more about Martin O'Malley, this group is the place to go, and it is the place to go because of our wonderful friend, elleng. She advocates and she informs. WE need more people like her in this world!

Hosting question:

Would you be open to a waiting period after a host has reached their 90 days of service or retires voluntarily?

Currently, as I am seeing, it is possible for a host to retire early and sign up to Re-Host as soon as another opening becomes available. Maybe a waiting period of a week or two (or even a month if we can make sure there are going to be enough hosts to do the job) might help to have more people be more involved?

90 days is the term, it seems that retiring early in order to skirt the 90 day term is a bit of a loophole.

Hillary Clinton Comes Out Against TPP

Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- Hillary Clinton came out against the Trans-Pacific Partnership Wednesday, breaking with President Barack Obama on the 12-nation trade deal that is set to become a key part of his legacy.

"As of today, I am not in favor of what I have learned about it," Clinton told Judy Woodruff of PBS "Newshour."

"I have said from the very beginning that we had to have a trade agreement that would create good American jobs, raise wages and advance our national security. And I still believe that's the high bar we have to meet," she said. "I have been trying to learn as much as I can about the agreement. But I'm worried. I'm worried about currency manipulation not being part of the agreement. We've lost American jobs to the manipulations that countries, particularly in Asia, have engaged in. I'm worried the pharmaceutical companies may have gotten more benefits -- and patients and consumers fewer. I think there are still a lot of unanswered questions.

Progressives have been pushing Clinton for months to take a position on TPP, since Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley (D), two of her rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination, came out against it long ago.

Looking for guidance.

In this thread, I voted for a lock and redirect http://www.democraticunderground.com/1243137827 — As VP Biden is considered by many to be a potential candidate.

Where is the line regarding GD and GDP? I am really trying to follow the SoP for both groups and am having a difficult time. Thanks for any response. I am aware that you will not weigh in on host decisions however, I am trying to find the fine line here going forward.
