BREAKING: 100+ US Military Advisers Going to Iraq (New)

On CNN

http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/12/world/meast/iraq-crisis/index.html

ByeBye 2014.

Can we call it an escalation now?

If not, how many advisers and air strikes make it an escalation in Iraq?

I voted for this guy to get us out, now we're going in.

Not happy.

Where is the special tax on the wealthy to pay for this debacle????

Seriously, what happened to the Iraq army we spent trillions on?

I know a bunch of them abandoned their war toys to ISIS, ordered to do so by Sunni generals.... Are some of them ISIS now?

Also, why can't the Kurds defend themselves, didn't we spend ten years and trillions training and equipping them too?

Also, how & why will it turn out different this time?

The root cause of the Yazidi refugees, and what we can do about it:

In my view, the root cause of the situation in Iraq may well be GWB's illegal invasion of Iraq and his subsequent use of torture and other brutal methods to control the population.

I would submit that Obama, if he is indeed concerned about human rights and the plight of the Yazidis, should open an investigation into the war crimes of the Bush era cabal that appear to have caused this whole mess.

We are being attacked by ISIS!

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."

--Goering at the Nuremberg Trials

At least that's what I heard on the Sunday morning show.... Here's Peter King from MTP today:

"Every day that goes by, ISIS builds up this caliphate, and it becomes a direct threat to the United States. They are more powerful now than al-Qaeda was on 9-11. So Dick Durbin says we're not going to do this, we're not going to do that. I want to hear what he says when they attack us in the United States."

How Long??? "Obama: U.S. airstrikes against ISIS in Iraq a 'long-term project'"

http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/10/world/meast/iraq-crisis/

12 years not enough to prove the neo-con doctrine of perpetual war to be wrong?

Seriously, how long this time, folks, 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, 10?

In my view, all our military projection into the region has had one result: it's made the islamicists stronger.

Campaign Mounts to Declassify 9/11 Report’s References to Alleged Saudi Involvement

Nearly 13 years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the extent of Saudi involvement in the deaths of almost 3,000 people remains unclear — but according to members of Congress and the families of victims, information about this has been suppressed ever since the publication of a 2002 congressional investigation into the plot.

Prior to the release of the final report of the Joint Inquiry into Intelligence Community Activities Before and After the Terrorist Attacks of September 11, 2001, the Bush administration classified a 28-page section in the name of national security.

Though speculations, accusations, and denials have swirled around these pages over the past decade, the call for their declassification has steadily grown since December 2013, when House Representatives Walter Jones (R-NC) and Stephen Lynch (D-MA) introduced Resolution 428, a two-page document urging President Obama to release them to the public. Nine other representatives from both parties have co-sponsored the resolution.

Yes, Weed Kills Cancer! "CANNABINOIDS INCREASE LUNG CANCER CELL LYSIS" (Kills cancer cells)

Abstract

Cannabinoids have been shown to promote the expression of the intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) on lung cancer cells as part of their anti-invasive and antimetastatic action. Using lung cancer cell lines (A549, H460) and metastatic cells derived from a lung cancer patient, the present study addressed the impact of cannabinoid-induced ICAM-1 on cancer cell adhesion to lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells and LAK cell-mediated cytotoxicity.

Cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, enhanced the susceptibility of cancer cells to adhere to and subsequently lysed by LAK cells, with both effects being reversed by a neutralizing ICAM-1 antibody. Increased cancer cell lysis by CBD was likewise abrogated when CBD-induced ICAM-1 expression was blocked by specific siRNA or by antagonists to cannabinoid receptors (CB1, CB2) and to transient receptor potential vanilloid 1.

In addition, enhanced killing of CBD-treated cancer cells was reversed by preincubation of LAK cells with an antibody to lymphocyte function associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) suggesting intercellular ICAM-1/LFA-1 crosslink as crucial event within this process. ICAM-1-dependent pro-killing effects were further confirmed for the phytocannabinoid ?9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and R(+)-methanandamide, a stable endocannabinoid analogue.

Finally, each cannabinoid elicited no significant increase of LAK cell-mediated lysis of non-tumor bronchial epithelial cells, BEAS-2B, associated with a far less pronounced (CBD, THC) or absent (R(+)-methanandamide) ICAM-1 induction as compared to cancer cells. Altogether, our data demonstrate cannabinoid-induced upregulation of ICAM-1 on lung cancer cells to be responsible for increased cancer cell susceptibility to LAK cell-mediated cytolysis. These findings provide proof for a novel antitumorigenic mechanism of cannabinoids.
