'It is immoral': Former first lady Laura Bush criticizes the separation of migrant children
Former US first lady Laura Bush rarely speaks out on political issues but on Sunday she openly criticized the Trump administration's separation of children from their parents along the border.
<snip?
"The reason for these separations is a zero-tolerance policy for their parents, who are accused of illegally crossing our borders. I live in a border state. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart," Bush wrote.
"Our government should not be in the business of warehousing children in converted box stores or making plans to place them in tent cities in the desert outside of El Paso."
Bush then said the detention facilities being used to house thousands of children are "eerily reminiscent" of the internment camps that held 120,000 Japanese Americans during World War II, and are "now considered to have been one of the most shameful episodes in U.S. history."

People send "thoughts and prayers" to Dana Loesch after NRATV cancelled
People online have responded to the news that live programming at NRATV has been cancelled and that Dana Loesch will no longer feature on the channel by sending them their "thoughts and prayers."
The National Rifle Association plans to shut down production of NRATV and sever all business with Ackerman McQueen, the advertising firm which operates the channel, on Wednesday, according to The New York Times. While the channel may continue to air past content, it will no longer feature on-air programming with hosts such as firebrand anchor Dana Loesch.
The news was celebrated by a number of people online, who were quick to share their "thoughts and prayers" with the NRA.
One person tweeted: "The National Rifle Association has SHUT DOWN production at NRATV. 'Thoughts and prayers' to the #NRA"

The Taliban Gave Me Toothpaste.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/2019/06/25/taliban-gave-me-toothpaste-former-captives-contrast-us-treatment-child-migrants/?utm_term=.f3ec75b1506aAmerican journalist Michael Scott Moore, abducted in 2012 while reporting in Somalia, watched Fabian argue that minimal necessities, like toiletries and sleeping conditions, were not essential to meet minimum safe and sanitary standards.
That was lets say below my experience in Somalia, he told The Washington Post Tuesday of his more than two years in captivity.
The conditions were about as miserable as you could imagine, he said, describing a barren and concrete prison house. Often there was no electricity, he said, but we had certain minimum things that kept it from being completely wretched.
He said he was given toothpaste, soap, a daily shower and a foam mattress.

I realize that sexual assault is not a laughing matter, but Trump's excuses and denials are just pathetic and should be ridiculed.
Trump has standards? Who would have guessed?

As Sheila Pulanco Russell, from North Carolina, explained in her post, all you need for this trick is a quarter and cup of water. Put the water in the freezer until it's frozen solid. Then, take it out and put a quarter on top of the ice. Return the cup with the quarter back to the freezer.
All of that may seem pointless, but there's a reason this trick resurfaces every storm season. When you return, if you find the quarter has moved to the bottom of the cup, then you'll know your food was unrefrigerated while you were gone and it's no longer safe to eat.
Found the quarter in the middle? The food is likely still OK, but, as Russell advised, "If you don't feel good about your food, just throw it out."
Where you ideally want the quarter to be is exactly where you left it on the top. That means your freezer's contents stayed frozen the entire time. Genius, right?
Here's a handy hint for the storm season that I'd never heard before.

Government moves migrant kids after poor conditions exposed
The U.S. government has removed most of the children from a remote Border Patrol station in Texas following reports that more than 300 kids were detained there and caring for each other with inadequate food, water and sanitation.
Rep. Veronica Escobar said 30 children were at the facility near El Paso as of Monday. Her office was briefed on the situation by an official with Customs and Border Protection.
Attorneys who visited the station in Clint, Texas last week said older children were trying to take care of infants and toddlers, The Associated Press first reported Thursday. Some had been detained for three weeks, and 15 children were sick with the flu.
Its unclear where all the children have been moved. But Escobar said some were sent to another facility in El Paso.
