There's A Stark Red-Blue Divide When It Comes To States' Vaccination Rates

There's a huge political divide. Speaking over the weekend, former President Donald Trump took credit for the vaccine rollout and told a North Carolina crowd of supporters that "most of you" have likely been vaccinated.

But surveys have shown Trump supporters are the least likely to say they have been vaccinated or plan to be. Remember, Trump got vaccinated before leaving the White House, but that was reported months later. Unlike other public officials who were trying to encourage people to get the shot, Trump did it in private.

The top 22 states (including D.C.) with the highest adult vaccination rates all went to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.
Some of the least vaccinated states are the most pro-Trump. Trump won 17 of the 18 states with the lowest adult vaccination rates.

Many of these states have high proportions of whites without college degrees.

Here's a bird story for you. My daughter is visiting my granddaughter and sent me a picture of a

baby bird. My granddaughter was mowing her yard yesterday evening when she almost ran over it. It appeared to be uninjured, but way too young to leave the nest. It has some feathers, but still has areas of skin visible. She looked all around to see if she could locate the nest, but couldn't see anything. She put it in a shoe box and put it on the porch to see if any birds were looking for it. Nothing happened, so she brought it inside when it started getting dark. They fed it some softened cat food, which it eagerly accepted, and it settled down for the night.

This morning my daughter got up early and took the baby out to the porch to feed it while she had her coffee. She stepped back inside for a minute and when she got back to the door, a male Cardinal was flying all around checking the box out so she decided to observe for a few minutes. Sure enough, he finally landed on the edge of the box and poked some food in the baby's mouth. Just a few minutes later, the female showed up and she also fed the baby. Yay!

The plan now is to make a safe place on the porch so the parents can continue raising this fledgling until it's able to leave the nest, but to bring it inside at night. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I had a young Blue Jay at the feeder this evening. This explains why the adult Jays

were harassing the squirrel tonight. They usually don't pay much attention to him, but tonight they were all over his butt, literally.

Former Winrock exec Chris Jones announces Democratic run for Arkansas governor

Chris Jones, the former executive director of Winrock International's Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub, announced his Democratic candidacy for Arkansas governor on Tuesday.

Jones, 44, who stepped down in May from his position at Winrock International, is the fourth person to announce a Democratic campaign for governor. Baptist minister Anthony Bland, political newcomer James “Rus” Russell and businesswoman Supha Xayprasith-Mays are also vying for the nomination. Libertarian Ricky Dale Harrington also plans to run for governor.

Jones is a seventh-generation Arkansan. He opened his campaign in his native town of Pine Bluff and in a launch video released on social media.

“The last few years have shown how much political division can tear us apart. The reality of this moment in our nation’s history is that if we want our politics to be different, we have to be different. Other candidates may try to divide us in this election. But I’m not running for governor to fight a culture war or to go on cable news. I’m here to bring Arkansans back together with a campaign that brings out our best,” he said.
