AmBlue's JournalDear President Biden
Dear President Biden,
I want to THANK YOU for standing strong (even while sick) and resisting these ridiculous calls for you to step aside. I voted for YOU, as did millions of other voters, and NO ONE has the right to nullify our votes. We, the People, have spoken.
At a time when our very democracy is being challenged by so many, your steadfast protection of our sacred votes is especially essential, and carries an historic gravity.
As Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock has so eloquently stated, our votes are our prayers for the kind of country we want to live in, and for the people who we believe are best qualified to lead our nation in manifesting that vision. There is NO QUESTION that the best, most qualifed person to do that in 2024 is YOU. Millions of my fellow Americans agree. We, the People, have spoken.
There will always be naysayers and they have a right to their opinions, but they have no right to an out-sized say in this upcoming existential election. Besides, I believe they are WRONG. Wrong in their opinions, and doubly wrong to try to snatch away and discard the votes of millions of us who voted for YOU. Let's make sure they are relegated to the dustbin of history.
I AM WITH YOU ALL THE WAY TO NOVEMBER AND BEYOND!!
Best wishes for a speedy recovery and continued courage in the fight for our democracy.
Yours very sincerely,

This was my letter to our President, sent today. I'm hoping he hears from many of you as well. Here's the link:

I'm also letting our turncoat Congress critters have a piece of my mind as well. They need to feel blowback.
For when you need to rest your mind...
...and take a breather from these stressful times. Please take time for self care, my dear DU friends.
I saw retired Justice Stephen Breyer today
After our little New Hampshire town's 4th of July parade today, I was surprised to learn that Justice Breyer would be speaking on the steps of the historic old Town Hall (circa 1761!), on what has the potential to be our last Independence day without a monarch. It was honestly stunning and very poignant to see him today, almost 250 years since the founding of this nation. If not for the recent horrendous SCOTUS rulings, I would have been very excited and happy to see him, but instead, I felt anxious and more than a little sad. As he read out the words of the Declaration of Independence, I could feel an unspoken tension in the air hanging over the crowd that was gathered. I wanted deperately to hear his opinions and wisdom about where we are as a nation. But of course he was only there to read out the Declaration on the 4th of July. Afterward, I shook his hand and thanked him for his service to our country and told him that we miss him on the court. I was happy to see he looked spry and in good health.
I am so grateful that Justice Breyer was able to step down from the court at a time of his choosing and our great President Joe Biden got to choose his successor. I will never forget this day.

Where is Nicolle Wallace today?
My cable schedule says Deadline Whitehouse is on now, but instead it is the UNWATCHABLE Katy Tur(d). I've had enough of her and her little band of Trumpettes.
Anyone know what's up with MSNBC's line-up today?

Is there a way to see who recs replies
To a reply to an OP, the same way we can see who recs the OP?
Let me be clear: This is NOT disinformation.
I cannot find a link to the letter mentioned in this article, but I can unequivocally say this is NOT disinformation. These people are serious experts working to protect the infrastructure of our election systems where there are known vulnerabilities. We cannot close our eyes to this reality and pretend it's not a serious challenge that we face.
These dedicated folks are part of a national network of election systems experts, computer scientists, citizen advocates, and election officials that have been concerned about the security of American elections since the advent of black-box touchscreen voting machines, after the hanging chad election fiasco of 2000 in Florida. I personally collaborated with John Bonifaz and Professor Doug Jones (mentioned in this article) when we successfully lobbied then Governor Charlie Crist and the Florida Legislature to get rid of touchscreen voting systems and move to paper ballots in 2007. This was a concerted effort in Florida that involved the League of Women Voters, NAACP, Common Cause, the Brennan Center for Justice, and Verified Voting, among others. Here's a link to a NY Times article announcing Florida's switch to paper ballots: https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/02/us/02voting.html&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwidp4zdo_yCAxXWRzABHUdzD70QFnoECAwQAg&usg=AOvVaw0CdpNEo0E0jDJi6-qBpln6
Sorry,I am not a subscriber to NYT... maybe someone can help us with an archive link.
Election Verification Network (EVN) is another group I have long been a supporter of and has many of the same experts and advocates: highly renowned academics, computer scientists, Constitutional law scholars, elections experts, elected officials, and citizen advocates who have testified before Congress and lobbied on behalf of the American people for free, fair, trustworthy, transparent, and verifiable elections for many years now.
Please check out EVN's Board of Directors and list of supporters. Their story is, in fact, quite amazing. Read about them and become familiar with their names, because they are, truly, the good guys. Most, if not all, are trustworthy, knowledgeable experts fighting for secure, verifiable elections that are integral to American democracy. Read about EVN here: https://electionverification.org/our-story/
In this age of disinformation, there are indeed sinister forces that want us to lose all faith in our elections and cast doubt on every election for their own cynical purposes. We, as citizens advocating to preserve American democracy and the free elections that sustain it, need to be able to recognize the real experts and advocates working on behalf of all Americans, who are instead urging common sense systems be put in place NOW to secure all future elections. They are true heroes and should be supported and recognized for their good work.
VOTE: Pennsylvania Ave is getting a makeover
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/interactive/2023/pennsylvania-avenue-dc-changes-feedback/?utm_campaign=wp_week_in_ideas&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&wpisrc=nl_ideasPennsylvania Avenue NW a corridor synonymous with the power and prestige of Washington is overdue for a makeover. While its image evokes the grandeur of presidential inaugural parades, the mile-long stretch between the White House and the Capitol has also hosted everything from Black Lives Matter demonstrations and womens suffrage protests to BBQ festivals and a Wonder Woman movie set. As the nation emerges from the pandemic, transforming this symbolic boulevard codifies the new role Americas main streets can play in bringing people together.
The National Capital Planning Commission, the federal agency in charge of coming up with the biggest overhaul of the route in half a century, has been busy brainstorming ideas and soliciting public input. Their goal is to create a greener and livelier route one they are calling an Avenue as a Venue."

Trumpy Radio Talk Show Host gives up on Trump
My husband sometimes listens to our local hate radio station to see what they are up to. Today he said that radio host Todd Schnitt gave up on Trump!! He said it was time for the party to move on, he can never win, and that Trump did all this to himself. Hubs says this is a nationally syndicated show.
This is the station:

Dear Mr. Cooper
I am so inconsolably upset about the "town hall" last night on CNN. I just sent the following to Anderson Cooper. It may all fall on deaf ears, but I may just write to all their other news personalities as well. We just cannot suffer ANOTHER Fox!!!
***
Dear Mr. Cooper,
I am writing to encourage you to resign from CNN. I know this is a huge ask, and I am more sorry than you know to ask this. However, as a long time fan of your work, after last night's airing of a serial liar, convicted sexual predator, seditionist, and all-around con man and traitor to the U.S.A., I can unequivocally say that your further association with CNN does you no favors. In fact, as much as I appreciate your journalism, I will never again watch CNN as long as Licht is CEO and the channel continues in such a trajectory that is so frighteningly harmful to everything this country stands for. In fact, I believe after last night that CNN has now defiled itself so thoroughy, there is just no turning back.
So, please do consider this very serious request. Please do not stay at CNN and give oxygen to the inexcusable events of last night. Your life's work is of a quality and integrity so much better than this and CNN can only drag you down now. As Americans, we must ALL stand up and speak out in every way we can to stop this travesty. Donald Trump wants to destroy America as we have known it-- as a government of, for, and by the People, built on the foundational premise that We, The People elect our leaders. That is frightening-- for me, for you, for our children and all future generations of Americans.
Mr. Cooper, your voice matters. You are in the unique position of having an international platform. YOUR voice is one that is heard everywhere. Your resignation and repudiation of CNN management's choice to give a platform to his lies and deceit of all Americans would speak volumes. So I am respectfully begging, please do not degrade your body of work by continued association with CNN. Frankly, it is beneath you. But most importantly, all of America deserves better.
Thank you for your consideration.
