Dumb Criminals: Birmingham Police Flush Out Two Suspected Toilet Thieves

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A father and son suspected of stealing parts from toilets at Birmingham-area restaurants are now in custody.

A total of five Birmingham restaurants were hit on Wednesday, including the McAllister's, Guthries and Waffle House near UAB on 18th Street South.

Police had photos of a white-haired gentlemen, plus a description of the suspects' green F150 truck.

The truck was spotted at a Chevron gas station at the corner of 29th Street and Clairmont Avenue a little before noon on Thursday. Police arrived and took the duo into custody without incident.

Birmingham police Lt. Sean Edwards said parts from the toilets, such as flushing valves, were turning up at scrapyards. Police believe one of the suspects is a plumber and may have been selling the stolen parts for scrap.

"There was a lot of plumbing equipment. Believe it or not, one of the individuals is a plumber. Unfortunately he was using his skills, his craft to fund his illegal activities," Edwards said.

Guthrie's owner Bruce Brown said the suspect came in and went to the restroom where within minutes, he ripped off plumbing from the sink.

File This Under "Gee, What Could Possibly Go Wrong?"

Bullets and Booze: Oklahoma Gun Range Awarded Liquor License

You'll be able to get a shot and a beer for real after an Oklahoma City gun range was granted a liquor license this week, much to the distress of some city leaders.

But it'll have to be in that order: a (gun) shot and then a beer, not the other way around.

As part of its petition to win the liquor license, the Range Cafe at Wilshire Gun Range promised that once a customer buys any alcoholic beverage, the sales register will bar him or her from the gun range itself.

"Guns and alcohol will never mix at Wilshire Gun," General Manager Jeff Swanson told NBC station KFOR of Oklahoma City after the City Council voted 6-3 to approve the controversial license Tuesday.

"Once you have a drink, your driver's license will be scanned and then red-flagged, and you'll be prohibited from entering the lanes for the rest of the day," Swanson said.

80's Punk Star Claims Santa Barbara Shooting Was Elaborate Hoax

Exene Cervenka, singer for ’80s punk icons X, just upset a whole mess of people this afternoon (May 28) with a series of tweets aimed at exposing last week’s Santa Barbara shooting as a hoax.

The 58-year-old frontwoman has added herself to the list of “truthers” who believe Elliot Rodger was just another bad actor in a long line of well-produced hoaxes, which include the Boston Marathon bombings and the attack on the World Trade Center.

Calling herself a “conspiracy therapist,” Cervenka digs into Elliot Rodger’s videos and various news reports in order to find incongruities.

Several videos added to her YouTube channel playlist today that back up the theory that Rodgers manifesto videos were filmed in a studio. “No one died and no one got hurt. The story is 100% fabricated from start to finish,” claims one YouTube truther.

Cervenka believes Rodger’s killing spree, along with the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, were designed to force stricter gun control laws — ultimately leaving citizens defenseless against the government.

National Parks Service Aims To Identify/Promote Historic LGBT Sites

This will get cross-posted in the LGBT section but I think it would get more traffic here:

Interior Secretary Sally Jewell is convening a panel of 18 scholars next month that will be charged with exploring the LGBT movement's story in areas such as law, religion, media, civil rights and the arts. The committee will identify relevant sites and its work will be used to evaluate them for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places, designation as National Historic Landmarks, or consideration as national monuments, Park Service Director Jonathan Jarvis said.

"The Park Service is, in my view, America's storyteller through place," Jarvis said "It's important that the places we recognize represent the full complement of the American experience."

The process mirrors efforts the service already has undertaken to preserve and promote locations that reflect the roles of Latinos, Asian-Americans and women in U.S. history.

Jewell plans to announce the initiative on Friday at New York's Stonewall Inn, which was made a national historic landmark in 2000. Stonewall is widely regarded as the birthplace of the modern gay rights movement. In 1969, a series of riots took place outside when police raided the Greenwich Village bar and arrested patrons and employees, citing morals charges. The riots broke out when the LGBT community fought back.

But Gerard Koskovich, a San Francisco scholar who will be part of the panel, said the movement actually pre-dates Stonewall by decades and goes back to the founding of the first American gay rights organization in Chicago in 1924. The freedom World War II gave gay men and lesbians to associate and the 1953 publication in Los Angeles of the first magazine with a positive portrayal of homosexuality are other early chapters that merit recognition, he said.

Dumb Criminals: Virginia Woman Ran Illegal Strip Club Out Of Home, Busted For Cheap Drinks

Two people were charged earlier this month in connection with an illegal strip club police believe was operating out of a downtown home.

Sonya F. Fletcher, 36, and Jeffrey F. Pope, 43, were charged with maintaining a common nuisance. Fletcher also was charged with marijuana possession. All are misdemeanors punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of $2,500.

Pope was killed Sunday when his car struck a tree on Hosier Road.

Fletcher's attorney did not return a voicemail and two emails seeking comment.

Diana Klink, a city spokeswoman, declined to comment on the case, saying it is still under investigation.

According to a search warrant affidavit filed in Circuit Court, the charges stem from a monthlong investigation into several suspected "stripper parties" last month in the 600 block of Battery Ave.

Donald Sterling Saga Now Immortalized In Porn Film

If you thought the scandal between Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling and his estranged girlfriend V. Stiviano couldn't get sleazier, guess again.

Now the conflicts between Sterling and Stiviano have been turned into a scene for CuckoldSessions.com, a porn website specializing in videos where white men are forced to watch their girlfriends have sex with African-American men.

The video features Raven Bay as Stiviano and Nina Hartley as Shelly Sterling as they connive to get even with the controversial billionaire.

Stiviano lures Sterling to a sleazy motel for sex, but the billionaire doesn't get hot sex.

Instead, she and Shelly Sterling have sex with a black basketball player while Donald Sterling is forced to watch.

Student Held "Taco Day" Turns Into Food Fight Which Leads To Criminal Charges Being Filed

Taco day was far from a fiesta Friday after eight students faced misdemeanor criminal charges for starting and participating in a food fight at Wilson Central High School.

Sheriff Robert Bryan said school resource officers charged four adult and four juvenile students with disorderly conduct and vandalism following the incident. He said the students were issued misdemeanor citations and released to their parents.

Bryan said school administrators also planned to discipline the students, but he didn’t know what consequences the students faced. The identities of the adult students weren’t immediately available.

Wilson Central principal Pat Suddarth didn’t immediately return calls seeking comment Friday evening.

Dumb Criminals: "Why Yes Officer, I Am Smoking Pot."

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Massachusetts police say a Springfield man blew through a stop sign and also blew a cloud of marijuana smoke when he was pulled over.

An officer enforcing seat belt laws as part of the annual "Click It or Ticket" campaign saw a vehicle drive through a stop sign Tuesday evening. When the driver stopped and rolled down the window, police say, the officer was "covered in a plume of smoke."

Sgt. John Delaney says the officer asked: "Are you smoking marijuana while operating this motor vehicle?"

The driver allegedly responded: "Why, yes, I am, officer."

Dumb Criminals: Yes, This Would Be Idaho Bank Robber Got Arrested Wearing This Shirt

LEWISTON, Idaho -- Two people suspected of robbing a western Idaho bank have been arrested in Lewiston after Idaho County officials received an anonymous tip about someone matching the description of the robber spending a lot of cash at a casino.

The Lewiston Tribune reports officers arrested 35-year-old Rocky Fisher of Nampa and 19-year-old Jennifer Balfe of Meridian at 11 a.m. Sunday as they walked out of a motel room in Lewiston.

Cottonwood Police Chief Terry Cochran says they were both booked into jail Sunday evening on suspicion of robbery, burglary and grand theft for Friday's robbery in Cottonwood.

NYC Man Files 2 Undecillion Dollar Lawsuit

A Manhattan man is suing New York City, a “Latina” dog owner, bakery and café chain Au Bon Pain, LaGuardia Airport, Hoboken University Medical Center, a Kmart store, and thousands of others -- for two undecillion dollars.

That’s the number “2” followed by 36 zeroes. Written out, it looks like this: $2,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

Anton Purisima, 62, filed a handwritten lawsuit in New York Southern District Court on April 11, after his middle finger was supposedly bitten by a “rabies-infected” dog on a city bus.

In the 22-page lawsuit, Purisima goes on to say that he gets “knowingly” overcharged for coffee at the Au Bon Pain store at LaGuardia Airport.
