The Milwaukee Wisconsin Journal Sentinel reports, Under Walkers new plan, the state Building Commission, which consists of the governor, three state senators, three state representatives and a citizen member, would have wide latitude to sell state properties.
Since entering office in 2011, Walker has continuously sought to slash public spending by partially privatizing the state Department of Commerce and undoing mandatory sex education. For critics, the cuts mean less funding for critical social programs that help the states 5.7 million residents.

The proceeds from these sales would be used first to pay off any remaining debt on the properties. Any leftover money would then be used to pay down other state debt.

The Memorial Union at UW-Madison could be sold and no longer controlled by the university. Student unions, built with student fees, are central to student life, as are residence halls that also potentially could be sold under the governors proposal, said Matt Guidry, communications director for United Council of UW Students.
(The bold text is my addition. Note "privatize" and "debt". Debt is how they force things into privatization, per the shock doctrine, "Confessions of an Economic Hitman", Michigan's Koch-"tea party" "emergency manager" smash-and-grab, and the vulture capitalism of the film "Wall Street". Note that student dorms appear to be on the privatization list; expect prices to go up and rules to become...whatever the owner wants. Isn't Scott Walker a "tea party" politician? Meaning a Koch operative? And consider the war "debt" created by the Bush disaster family; will it not soon be used as a club against America's economy for the benefit of the rich, in exactly the pattern we see in Wisconsin and Michigan? Beginning at 10:30 pm Pacific Time Wednesday, workers at dozens of Seattle fast food locations began striking, launching the nations seventh work stoppage by fast food employees in eight weeks. Organizers expect workers from chains including McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, Subway, Arbys, Chipotle, Qdoba and Jack in the Box to participate in the walkout, which will last roughly twenty-four hours.
Im sick of seeing my co-workers and me essentially get pushed and pushed and barely be able to eat, Taco Bell employee Caroline Durocher told The Nation Wednesday. And I think its time that we pushed them back. Durocher said shes hopeful that both co-workers on her late night shift will walk off the job with her.
Like recent fast food strikers in New York, Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis and Detroit, the Seattle strikers are holding a one-day walkout to demand a raise to $15 per hour and the right to form a union without intimidation. Like those cities strikes, Seattles is supported by a coalition of labor and community groups; in each case, the Service Employees International Union has been involved in supporting the organizing efforts. The Seattle campaign, Good Jobs Seattle, is backed by groups including Working Washington, the Washington Community Action Network and OneAmerica.
The Seattle strike comes two weeks after New Yorks fast food workers campaign released a report alleging rampant wage theft in the industry, and hours after the Congressional Progressive Caucus announced plans for a nationwide tour focused on low wages and economic inequality. It also follows a day-long strike last week in Washington, DC, staged by federally-contracted workersincluding fast food employees at federal buildingsdemanding that President Obama take executive action to improve their working conditions.

The Nation: Cooper Union Occupation Continues Without Media Fanfare

http://www.thenation.com/blog/174549/cooper-union-occupation-continues-without-media-fanfare
The occupation at Cooper Union has continued for twenty days with little public or media attentioncertainly nothing on par with the profiles written on Zuccotti Park in the fall of 2011. Part of that lukewarm reception has to do with the Cooper occupations modest numbers (the occupation is sustained by a group ranging between fifteen and twenty-five students), and another part with their mission, which is more specific and less sexy than an anti-capitalist revolution. Cooper Union students are protesting the schools decision to charge undergraduate tuition for the first time in 150 years, and theyre doing so out of the publics view, between the walls of president Jamshed Bharuchas office.
The occupiers quickly gained support from nine full-time members of Cooper Unions art faculty, who signed a petition and released a statement:
Out of deep concern about the direction of the Cooper Union under President Jamshed Bharucha, the full-time faculty of the School of Arts adopts a resolution of a vote of No Confidence in President Jamshed Barucha.
A Village Voice investigation revealed that the board of trustees have been less than forthright about the dire situation at Cooper Union. While alumni trustee Peter Cafiero claimed a shutdown scenario was never taken seriously, the Voice obtained a transcript from a trustee meeting that paints a different picture.

Los Angeles business lobby brazenly brays about increased influence over city hall
CCA PAC Scores Successes at City Hallhttp://ccala.org/admin/newsletter/getNewsletter.asp?ID=178
The results are in! CCA was the resounding winner in yesterdays election.
CCAs Political Action Committee (PAC) had a 100% success-rate in the City Council, with PAC-endorsed candidates Gil Cedillo (Council District 1), Curren Price (CD 9) and Mitch OFarrell (CD 13) taking home victories. Yesterdays wins build on the March election successes of CCA-endorsed candidates Bob Blumenfield (CD 3), Paul Koretz (CD 5), Felipe Fuentes (CD 7), Mike Bonin (CD 11) and Joe Buscaino (CD 15). Elsewhere in City Hall, PAC-endorsed Mike Feuer was elected City Attorney, and we look forward to continuing our longstanding relationship with him.
CCA congratulates Eric Garcetti on his victory in the mayoral race, and we look forward to continuing our strong partnership with Eric and his excellent staff. With a lingering fiscal deficit, ongoing debate about pension reform, and a municipal infrastructure in desperate need of repair, we are confident in Erics leadership. We would also like to recognize the hard work of committed public servant Wendy Greuel.
We congratulate Ron Galperin for his success in the City Controllers race. Going forward, CCA PAC-endorsed Nury Martinez will advance to a special run-off election for City Council District 6 in July.
Since 1924, CCAs members have been among the most civically-engaged in our city. Our PACs savvy picks help ensure that CCAs voice will continue to be heard loud and clear at City Hall. We appreciate your support for our advocacy through your PAC contributions. Together, we are making a difference.

Interesting trends regarding those who dislike Occupy Wall Street.
-They do not mention the issues Occupy brought to international attention, such as the 470+ times income inequality gap in the US (which of course remains unchanged), that banks are using homes and markets as gambling chips since the elimination of Glass-Steagal, etc.
-They do not mention that the militarized police crack-down against Occupy occurs under a Democratic president, who earlier had said
"I want to be very clear in calling upon the Egyptian authorities to refrain from any violence against peaceful protesters."
http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,2045085,00.html
They do not call out this hypocrisy, much less the obvious chilling effect intended upon 1st Amendment protest. Which is part and parcel with the chilling effect seen upon whistle-blowing, journalism, etc. Nasty Trend, there.
-They do not acknowledge that the fiscal policies of this administration are utterly coddling to Wall Street and the same banksters who are the problem.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=2890517
(They are seemingly accepting of Obama giving billions of taxpayer dollars, including THEIR tax monies, to Wall Street, Goldman Sachs, etc.)
-They do not call out this administration for its complete silence (which must at this point be taken as consent) regarding the continuing attacks and brutalization against activists and protesters even at the "Democratic" National Conventions, and that it looks like a police state:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002710303
-They do not acknowledge Occupy actions such as the California and Minnesota homeowner's bills of rights, Occupy Sandy Relief, the Strike Debt Rolling Jubilee (and the now $1 trillion of student loan debt the young now face), that Occupy for several months stole back the national narrative from the corrupt system and focused it upon the people of this country and the need for a fair system...be it income equality, housing rights, medical care rights, food privilege equality, and that the People of this country are its true power (the root of the very word Democracy is the voice and will of the People).
-They do not acknowledge that, despite mounting proof through heaps of redacted documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, that yes, the government at several levels were directly involved in the monitoring and manipulation of the Occupy movement, and even worked to assist banks and corporations assemble information about it.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022889592
-They are unwilling to accept that systems outside of politics can result in positive change, or that politics itself is vastly corrupted and increasingly, directly manipulated by corporate and plutonomist agencies.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=2906679
-They are vocal about Occupy needing to be involved in politics, yet ignore that Occupy realizes that politics are part of the problem in that it enables the corrupt and corruptors, and as such, chooses wisely stand apart from the very problem.
-They are uncomfortable with calls to the People of this country to remember that THEY are the true power, that politicians represent them and MUST do the will of the people, or they are not representatives at all and as such, are corrupt and the problem. They appear to want "leaders", to be led, even if the "leaders" are part and parcel with the problems Occupy declaim. Individual initiative and responsibility = bad; conforming = good.
-They appear to have problems with the Occupy encampments' work to include and uplift the marginalized of society. We all have equal rights. It is time to smash that aspect of capitalism which would have millions living on the streets (Veterans included, a painfully and intolerably large number) or in for-profit private prisons for minor drug offenses (thank you to the for-profit "war on drugs" .
-They ignore that five or six corporations (including Mitt Romney's Bain Capital) control the US mainstream media so that the message was essentially squelched, or turned against us into lies intended to demonize. Now with the Kochs revealed as influencing PBS and outright attempting to purchase Tribune newspapers, it only becomes worse.
-They ignore the end of "the Commons", public spaces where citizens may gather to meet and organize and voice concerns. In NYC, Zuccotti park, a "privately-owned" public space. Wall Street billionaire mayor Bloomberg's girlfriend was, or is on the board owning Zuccotti. Even with a court order that protesters be allowed back in, police and private security would not allow it.
With less and less space in the big cities at which to gather and engage in Democracy (the voice and will of the people), there is less Democracy (but more "owners" who make rules).
Ignoring the problems allows them to increase, and there are real, devastating problems right now in this country which must be changed lest we slip into a fully corporate state. It's not very far away. Together, we can defeat it.

http://washington.cbslocal.com/2013/05/23/house-passes-gop-bill-to-bypass-president-to-speed-approval-of-keystone-xl-oil-pipeline/#.UaAkMqRpEdA.twitterWASHINGTON House Republicans pushed through a bill Wednesday to bypass the president to speed approval of the Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada to Texas. Democrats criticized the legislation as a blatant attempt to allow a foreign company to avoid environmental review.
The bill was approved, 241-175, largely along party lines.
Republicans said the measure was needed to ensure that the long-delayed pipeline, first proposed in 2008, is built.
This is the most studied pipeline in the history of mankind, said Rep. Lee Terry, R-Neb., the bills sponsor.
(More at the link. Remember that Boehner has investment in this and Greg Palast found it will save the Koch brothers $2 billion a year, so always follow the money. Also, the carbon measurements for our planet have reached record highs with the tar sands development helping drive it to extinction-related levels.)
