The New York Yankees were surprised when President Trump announced his plans to throw the first pitch at a game in August, The New York Times reported Monday. That's because the team hadn't invited the president, a person with knowledge of the president’s schedule told the Times.

Trump's announcement, which reportedly also came as a surprise to White House staff, came hours before Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, threw out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals' season opener against the Yankees.

An official familiar with his reaction told the Times the president was annoyed about the media attention Fauci was receiving for the pitch. Trump directed staff to call Yankees officials to schedule a date for the first pitch, but a date wasn’t finalized.

White House aides reportedly tried to inform Yankees officials that Trump was booked to throw the opening pitch on Aug 15. But the president ended up canceling his first pitch on Sunday, citing that he would be busy with meetings and other work related to the coronavirus pandemic.

A lawsuit from an individual who alleged federal agents violated their freedom of speech or rights against unconstitutional search and seizure would have a much higher chance of success, Michael Dorf, a professor of constitutional law at Cornell University, said ahead of the ruling."

If I'm reading this correctly, the state couldn't stop the Feds based on anecdotes and events that hadn't happened but might happen, but, say, an individual who was grabbed off the street and whisked away in a van without due process might better be able to prove injury and civil rights violations. Does anyone else read it that way?

Artists install anti-trump living statues in and around DC

Living statues were installed around Washington, D.C. on Friday depicting President Trump as a "destroyer of civil rights and liberties."
A group of artists known as the Trump Statue Initiative is behind the installations, including one that depicts Trump holding up a Bible while Black Lives Matters protesters are beaten and another showing him telling a masked child to "go back to school" while holding a golf club.
"The concept is that the history he's painting of himself right now, where his narcissistic or racist or self-serving moments abound, this is what he's leaving us with," filmmaker Bryan Buckley told The Hill. Buckley, who was nominated for an Oscar this year, curated the three installations that went up around D.C. on Friday.

In another portion of the interview, Trump became visibly upset when Wallace fact-checked him about his opponent Joe Biden’s policy prescriptions on police. When Trump said that Biden “wants to defund the police,” Wallace interrupted him to say, “Sir, he does not.”

“Let’s go!” Trump said, looking around for help from his staff. “Get me the charter, please.”

Speaking to Hemmer about the interview, Wallace explained that what followed was a “very interesting exchange” where Trump had his staff go find highlights from the compact between Biden and Bernie Sanders.

“And he went through it and he found a lot of things that he objected to, that Biden has agreed to,” Wallace said, “but couldn't find any indication—because there isn't any—that Joe Biden has sought to defund and abolish the police."

Ana Navarro is a Nicaraguan born, Republican strategist and a political commentator on CNN. She spoke about Ivanka Trump’s on air sales pitch for Goya food products after the Goya CEO spoke highly of her father. Navarro said that when Ivanka held up a can of Goya beans she broke ethics laws and she broke regulations, but worst of all, “she broke Latina Cocina laws!” (Latin cooking) “I don’t know any Latin who would dress in white silk to cook a can of black beans,” Navarro said. “That in itself makes no sense.” She finished by saying “She holds a can of beans with the same familiarity her father holds a Bible.”

A third outside adviser in frequent touch with the White House said that in a recent conversation, the president seemed almost “inconsolable” and summed up Trump’s riff: Gripes about the great economy he built, now felled by the virus, and also how “some stupid cop in Minneapolis kneels on someone’s neck and now everyone is protesting.”

Trump tells African-Americans....oh you just have to read it

"My message is that we have a great country, we have the greatest country on Earth. We have a heritage, we have a history and we should learn from the history, and if you don’t understand your history, you will go back to it again. You will go right back to it. You have to learn. Think of it, you take away that whole era and you’re going to go back to it sometime. People won’t know about it. They’re going to forget about it. It’s okay.

Now what I do like, I like the idea of building new statues to people, to great people. People that have done something. And I think that’s okay.

But you don’t want to take away our heritage and history and the beauty, in many cases, the beauty, the artistic beauty. Some of the sculptures and some of this work is some of the great — you can go to France, you can go anywhere in the world and you will never see more magnificent work. And that’s a factor. It’s not the biggest factor but it’s a factor."
