Those pesky regulations to level the playing field

Those pesky regulations to level the playing field. All Uber drivers are being asked to doing is jump through SOME of the hoops cab drivers must jump through.

1. Safety. Interestingly, it happens to be the most aggressively fought by Uber. That means criminal background checks, finger printing, a drug test, a physical exam, and mandated maintenance. (Please explain why Uber customers would oppose safety regulations. Thanks in advance.)

2. No poaching. Other than drop-offs, it's illegal for cabs to operate outside of city limits. The cab industry isn't asking Uber to be restricted similarly. The cab industry is asking Uber drivers who live in a city or state to register their car in that city and state and get a state drivers license. In Chicago, Uber drivers come from everywhere. Plates from Indiana, California, Ontario (Canada), Florida. Just register in Illionois and get an IL drivers license.

3. Don't be a deadbeat, pay your tickets, child support, and municipal bills. Chicagoland Uber and Lyft drivers own the municipalities in excess of $15 million dollars.

4. Use the roads, your passengers use the commons, pay for them. In Chicago, cab drivers MUST collect a $4 tax from airport pickups from passengers. The "McPier" tax pays for events and salaries at Navy Pier and the McCorrmick convention center. Uber has not reimbursed McPier and McPier has to sue Uber to collect what is owed them. That's how Uber rolls. Subsidies and "sue us, we'll settle for less after years of appeals."

Beginning to understand those wretched government regulations are aimed at putting an end to Ayn Randians who rely on subsidies and circumvent paying for the commons?

The commons! Thom's mantra. This is just one reason it's infuriating to listen to him pimp for these middle class job killing (that's another reason), race-to-the-bottom (yet another), libertarian freeloaders. Can't get his attention. I'm spoon feeding to reduce the amount of research he has to do, but he's chosen stick his head in the sand. Louise has even gone so far as to delete my threads and account. I joined the message board in 2007 but as you can see, I'm a new member and these are my first posts. gumball is correct, there have been threads about Uber here. In fact, no doubt he and I sparred in the two I created before they were discovered and deleted along with my account.

What is this about? Are they trying to rid their states of "sinners" and "welfare queens"?

Is that what it's about? People in Ohio will move to Illinois?

Note to self: look at Texas, Ohio, etc.. population trends.

Maybe if Hillary gave those jobs to women the tone would be different

Don't get then fuss about gender if you're hiring WHITE male assholes to do all the thinking for you.

I had heard of Bernie Sanders (been listening to Thom since 2008) and the new Jim Crow Laws, but had

never heard of Michelle Alexander until she wrote her article prior to South Carolina. I fell in love with her because, as a white man, it was nice to hear a black woman saying what I can only observe, and so much more, of course. But, it turns out, she's every bit of a lightning rod for having said it, so being a white guy really wasn't all-that, after all.

What does Grown2Hate mean?

A: Bernie people believe they are up against 2 Republican Parties, one called the Republican Party and the (IMO 401K Lottery playing) Republicans that have infiltrated the Democratic Party who can look at the Goldman Sachs Obama Admin and watch inequality growth and argue Obama and Clinton aren't influence by Wall Street money. It's betrayal. Of course were angered at those who got hooked by the Republican 401K scam.

I don't know how you can claim you're not influenced by money when you stack your admin with Goldman

Sachs, Rubinites (synonymous), and a Wall Street defense attorney. Then, in front of your very eyes, watch income inequality continue to grow? I don't know how you people have washed your brains over the Obama admin. I suppose you all got stuck with the GOP 401K scam and love the Obama bubble. Which makes sense that you would be terrified of Sanders and praying that Hillary protects that 401K. But it's a bubble. It will either burst on Obama in 2016 or Hillary. But people here are really old. Perhaps you're so close to cashing in you just need the bubble to last a little longer. That's how Republicans hook you. You won the lottery! For others, when the bubble bursts, everything you recaptured will be lost, and you'll have lost the lottery.

Yeah, Bernie wants to bring an end to the 401K lottery because it's a Republican scam that hooks Democrats like junkies and allows them to rationalize the eroding of the middle class.

Looking forward to the day you lottery players are endangered species and no longer relevant. You really fucked up. I salute you.

Pay attention, Dan, I'll explain what you really need to know

Hillary's camp wants more of the same, which means another Goldman Sachs Admin willing to cut pro-corporate deals that benefit the rich and your 401K (fuel the bubble) at the expense of the middle class.

Bernie's camp is calling "Bullshit" on more of the same and is seeking a redistribution of wealth comparable to the Great Compression.

There's a word for people like you who fail to see the big picture, it's myopic.

She's been correcting the errors of the past 20 years, acknowledging mistakes, being wrong, and

evolving. She was wrong to trust, or did she make a deal with Bush? TPP is "the gold standard" of trade policy...or not. Obama regrets having gone into Libya for the sake of regime change; at least she stands behind this bad decision. It goes on and on. She doesn't have to tell lies. Her truths change. People don't trust her because she has no center.

Thanks for that! I said the DLC/Third Way was dead in name only, but not in fact

Didn't know they actually renamed themselves lol

"e they find out about the DLC/Third Way takeover of the Democratic Party, they are both shocked and hopping mad."

That's why I started the thread. People would benefit greatly from historical context. Gain an understanding of why there is no longer a Party for "We the People."

It's right for people to get pissed off.
