Registrar of Voter Offices across the nation apparently are going to be flooded on that day in a coordinated effort by people "updating" their voter registrations.

...As we mark July 4th, Independence Day this year, maybe we should celebrate “Independents Day” as more people than ever before are declaring their independence from a two-party system where the vast majority of the American people haven’t been invited to the party. Not that we aren’t hit up for presents. Not a day goes by I don’t get an email from the Democratic Party with an alarming headline and a piece that goes: “The Koch Brothers ... ooga booga blah blah blah, send us money!”
Since I am an equal-opportunity masochist, I’m on the conservative lists too, and those emails go: “Obama ... ooga booga blah blah blah, send us money!”
Now maybe this isn’t exactly like the shell game — more like the extortion game. It’s not enough that the commonwealth is being drained of resource by the uncommonly wealthy Koch Brothers. Now their thievery is being used to steal even more money from the American people — in the guise of fighting them. As anyone who has voted Democrat as the lesser evil will attest, you can count on the Democrats in the same way Charlie Brown could count on Lucy pulling away the football every time he tries to kick it.
However... an upwising is afoot. More and more Americans are wising up to the political sideshow as a “debate and switch” shell game, where weapons of mass-distraction are used to keep us from addressing the fundamental issue of governance — who’s in charge of who’s in charge?
...Mark my words (or, if you prefer, mock my words) there will be an “independents” movement in 2016 that will change the political landscape forever. These independents — independent of the Democrats, the Republicans, and the corporate media who have until now defined the parameters of political conversation — will naturally call forth the “interdependence” of progressive greens and libertarian conservatives looking to create a new alliance that finally reunites progressives and populists.

On the other hand, in an officer involved shooting, the victim's race IS important to know
as a gauge for how, or if, police departments are reacting to the critical public eye that is now focused on these shootings. Yesterday, a Tucson PO shot and killed a black bicyclist. None of the media outlets mentioned the man's race, and only a couple of them mentioned his name: Osee Calix. A google search was the only way to find out the info on his race. I hope this is not a trend for the media to not disclose the race of victims of officer-involved shootings. That would be disturbing, if there were a concerted effort by local media to do so, in order to reduce or eliminate public backlash against their local PD's
Yes it is. And anyone who is being intimidated or punished for stating how they want to vote
or did vote, or are threatened with, or actually removed from DU for how they want to vote, or how they actually did vote, should retain an attorney. I believe the federal voting act specifically prohibits such actions.
I already left the Dem Party and am now looking for a new political home.
Nevada was so far over the line that everyone in my family who supports Bernie left the Dem Party the following week. We were all life long Dems before that.
The privacy of the voting booth can be both a good and bad thing.
Good because if frees one from influence in that moment. Bad because it frees one from influence in that moment and allows racist, xenophobic or misogynistic sentiments to be quietly expressed.
80% of my CA phonebank respondents voted for Bernie!!!
I phonebanked into Cali yesterday. Was calling Permanent Mail-in Ballot voters. 80% of the ones who answered the phone had already voted for Bernie! And I was able to help one of the NPP Bernie voters get a correct Dem ballot, instead of a non-affiliated ballot.
The CA polls have Bernie within 2 points of Hillary right now. Based on my calls, he actually may be ahead of her!

These hearing are being held to develop the Democratic Party Platform,
the guiding document of the Democratic Party! It stands to reason then, that the party should want input from liberals, and would hold hearings in solid blue states that, provably, strongly support the party and its mission.
Yes, it's considered part of the Upper South.
Take your beef to the US Census Bureau who has it firmly in the Southern States category. By the way, Maryland (and the District) was a southern slave state right up to the start of the Civil War.
Any comment on not holding any of the hearings in solidly blue states?
It is governed by the GOP controlled Congress, yes,
and, while the residents are liberal, it is the wonkiest and most political punditocracy in the world.
And color me cynical, it was undoubtedly picked because the primary will be held there the following week: "The events in Washington on June 8-9...will be forums featuring testimony." Sounds sort of like a 'Town Hall.' Hillary doesn't want any more debates, but let's see if she shows up to "testify."

LOL, All of Dem Platform hearings are in conservative GOP controlled southern states!
The Democratic Party is taking input from citizens (read: Hillary supporters) in non Democratic states! Why didn't they have hearings in liberal states? What are they afraid of?
