Fascinating conversation I just overheard on the bus:

A man and a woman who knew each other got on and started talking. I was paying no attention until:

Man: But he beats on her.

Woman: She deserves it.

Man: I don't believe you said that. He shouldn't beat on her. Damn.

Woman: She's a liar.

Man: I know she is, but that don't mean he should beat on her. Damn.

They got off shortly after. The things I hear on the bus. I ought to write a book.

Deep in Coal Country, Pondering a Future Without It

Harlan KY residents come up against the reality of the old saying "You can't eat the scenery".

For further background, see "Harlan County USA" by Barbara Koppel. It's still the gold standard for documentaries. Oddly enough, it isn't mentioned in this otherwise great read.

Chris Hayes says new footage of Eric Garner coming up.

PSA: Don't bother with grubhub.

Their website is extremely difficult to use, and I never did get my order. I just put a freakin' Lean Cuisine in the microwave. Happy Thursday.

Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only Placido Domingo.

Watching "Head of State".

It was made ten years ago. It's funnier than ever now.
