I just saw two Canada geese . . . in a tree.

I've never seen them in this neighborhood before. And I've never seen them in a tree. For a second, I thought they were buzzards, but when they flew off I saw what they were. Anybody ever seen geese in a tree before?

On Barbara Kingsolver's "The Lacuna": **NO SPOILERS**

Read it. It gets off to a slow, rather confusing start, but be patient; it's worth it. It is set in Mexico and Asheville NC. The story is told through letters, diaries, newspaper articles, and other documents. Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, and Lev Trotsky are among the historical figures who appear. Fascinating conversations between characters and stinging one-liners abound. Loved it!

I had not followed this story closely . . .

So I did not know that the child had been allowed to harrass the cat. Interestingly, I once had a half Himalayan cat named Hamlet, which is likely what Lux is. They look a lot alike. Hamlet would not tolerate harassment either. Lux needs a quiet home with people who understand cats.

Dear 1%: The Apostle James would like to have a word with you:

1 Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. 2 Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. 3 Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. 4 Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. 5 You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned and murdered innocent men, who were not opposing you.

Business Owners Concerned About New Overtime Law Proposal

http://touch.wishtv.com/r2709/b12ee672

Small business owners around Indianapolis are griping about Obama's proposal to change overtime pay rules. God, this is so typical of this low-wage, anti-worker state where employers are used to cheap, powerless labor.

Guess what I got today?

Those Easy Spirit shoes I ordered Monday!

March 10, 2014

Dear Local Mall: No wonder so many of your kind are dying off.

I went out to find a pair of shoes -- nothing elaborate, just a pair of sturdy black walking shoes, in a common size, preferably my favorite brand, Easy Spirit. I've been wearing that brand for years. All I found was cheap crap in colors that make them look like clown shoes. Pretty silly for a fiftysomething, don't you think?

I go through the same thing when I try to shop for clothes. Who designs this stuff? I am under five feet tall, and not particularly svelte.Do I sound like a Victoria's Secret model to you?

I order my favorite Lands' End clothing items online anymore. And the shoes? Five minutes on the Easy Spirit website, and I have a pair on the way. No muss, no fuss.

Thanks for nothing, and stay off my lawn.

Love,
Brigid
