Drew Barrymore in Conversation with TCM Host Jacqueline Stewart:
TWENTIETH CENTURY (1934) - 3:30PM
Join actress, entrepreneur, award-winning talk show host Drew Barrymore and TCM host Jacqueline Stewart for a conversation about Drews love of classic film, featuring a screening of TWENTIETH CENTURY (1934), starring her grandfather, John Barrymore.
When John Barrymore asked director Howard Hawks why he wanted him to play histrionic theatrical impresario Oscar Jaffe in this trailblazing screwball comedy, Hawks replied, Its the story of the biggest ham on Earth, and youre the biggest ham I know. Barrymore accepted on the spot and quickly bonded with the director. This was the first of Hawks great comedies and one of the first Hollywood films in which glamorous stars like Barrymore and Carole Lombard made fools of themselves on camera. It was also hailed as a departure from Barrymores run of dramatic and swashbuckling roles in films like Don Juan 1926) and Grand Hotel
1932). When Lombard, cast as the rebellious star Barrymore needs for his next production, had trouble capturing the films comic spirit, Hawks and her co-star worked tirelessly to get her to loosen up. With Barrymores help, Lombard became a top star, often hailed as The Daffy Duse.
Meryl Streep in Conversation with TCM Host Dave Karger:
40th Anniversary of OUT OF AFRICA (1985) 7:00PM
Join acting icon Meryl Streep and TCM host Dave Karger for an illuminating conversation before a special 40th anniversary presentation of OUT OF AFRICA (1985). Streep had already earned two of her three Oscars when she took on the role of Baroness Karen Blixen (pen name Isak Dinesen) in director Sydney Pollacks adaptation of Blixens autobiography of her time running a coffee plantation in early 20th century Kenya. Shot on location, the role gave Streep a chance to create a nuanced, layered performance that stands out even against the film's spectacular scenery. In addition, Blixen was one of the strongest, most self-determined women Streep had played on screen to that point. It was a breakthrough in the cinematic portrayal of women 40 years ago and continues to reflect the stars deep commitment to womens rights and womens history. The film brought Streep the sixth of her record 21 Oscar nominations for acting while capturing seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

For those still mulling ABC's settlement of the Trump defamation suit ...
Something I posted in another thread that should be repeated for information's sake:
The standards for libel suits by public figures are different than for private individuals.
From https://www.minclaw.com/public-figure-defamation/:
(snip)
Public Figures: Standard of fault - Must prove defendant acted with "actual malice"
Definition of Fault Standard: Actual malice = knowledge of falsity or reckless disregard for the truth
Rationale for Differing Standards: protects free speech about public affairs and public officials.
Private individuals: Standard of fault - Must prove defendant was at least negligent
Definition of Fault Standard - Negligence = failure to exercise reasonable care
Rationale for Differing Standards - recognizes private individuals deserve more reputational protection
So did ABC think Stephanopolous acted with "actual malice"? Or did they think that the definition of rape didn't apply to what Trump was convicted of? Or why did ABC feel Trump, a public individual, deserved any reputational protection given his history? And would they have done this if Trump hadn't been re-elected?
Good questions ...
Why did ABC News settle a lawsuit with Donald Trump? (Poynter.com)
In March, ABC News George Stephanopoulos interviewed Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace and asked why she continued to support Donald Trump for president after, Stephanopoulos said, Trump had been found liable for rape in a 2023 civil case.
Stephanopoulos was referring to the case where a jury found Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming writer E. Jean Carroll in the 1990s. The jury did not find him guilty of rape. However, the judge in the case later clarified that because of New Yorks narrow legal definition of rape, the jury did not mean that Carroll failed to prove that Mr. Trump raped her as many people commonly understand the word rape.
Nevertheless, Trump sued ABC News and Stephanopoulos for defamation over what Stephanopoulos said in the interview with Mace.
Then, over the weekend, ABC News announced it would settle the case with Trump. Under the terms of the settlement, ABC News will donate $15 million to Trumps future presidential foundation and museum. In addition, the network will pay $1 million for Trumps legal fees. Also, on the original story on its website, ABC News has added an editors note that says, ABC News and George Stephanopoulos regret statements regarding President Donald J. Trump made during an interview by George Stephanopoulos with Rep. Nancy Mace on ABCs This Week on March 10, 2024.

Unreleased Michael Jackson Tapes Discovered in Abandoned Storage Unit (Exclusive)

Some of the Michael Jackson and Bryan Loren tapes found in the storage unit. Courtesy of Gregg Musgrove

When former California Highway Patrol officer turned stay-at-home dad Gregg Musgrove started treasure hunting, the 56-year-old certainly never imagined hed end up with a kings bounty the King of Pop, that is.
A trove of cassette and DAT tapes containing unreleased Michael Jackson tracks were found in a storage unit deep in the San Fernando Valley. Musgroves journey to the tapes began when an associate contacted him about a storage unit hed recently bought in Van Nuys. The unit once belonged to Bryan Loren, a music producer and singer (whose current whereabouts are unknown, according to Musgrove).
Ive gone to all the fan sites. Some of [the songs] are rumored to exist, some of them have been leaked a little bit, Musgrove tells The Hollywood Reporter. A couple arent even out there in the world.
Musgroves full inventory list, pictured below, shows the collected tracks, along with snippets of other unreleased songs. Jackson, and presumably Loren, can be heard discussing the recording and creative process on the tapes. Im listening to this stuff, and I would get goosebumps because nobodys ever heard this stuff before, Musgrove says. To hear Michael Jackson actually talk and kind of joke back and forth, it was really, really cool.

On 12/15/21, DJ Alan Freed was born.
He's reportedly the man who coined the phrase "rock 'n' roll."
This compilation audio from Freed's "Rock 'n' Roll Dance Party" from 1957 features Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps, The Cadillacs, The Platters, Chuck Berry, The Penguins and Bill Haley and the Comets. Many of the performances sound like they're live.
