ificandream's JournalHow cool: A teenage Bob Saget used to visit Larry Fine of The Three Stooges to show him movies
This really really made me smile. I never really thought Saget was that special. But I heard what Jimmy Kimmel said about him and then after seeing this, I see Kimmel was right. He was a very kind man.

I hadn't been here in about a year before this week ... but I think I'll stick around.
This place has always been a comfort zone for me. Thanks for it.
Hannity gets slapped silly by one of his guests
This is such a great clip. Hannity's ignorance is showcased here. The dumbasses who run his website as just as stupid. Made my day to see this. You know this guy will never be on his show again. Dumbshit Hannity can't handle the truth.

Opinion: The accountability-free world of Tucker Carlson (by Philip Bump)
(Washington Post) https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/01/14/tucker-carlson-accountability/
See that correction? Thats not real. At no point did I misstate the square root of 9 in this article. Had I done so, though, getting a basic fact like that wrong, such a correction would have been the result, sitting at the top of this article for everyone to read every time they come to this page. Thats how it works for articles on the Web from institutions interested in self-correction. For a writer, its painful, like executing a risky series of tricks on a snowboarding halfpipe only to have your wipeout go viral (to use a far cooler analogy than is warranted). But that is how it works.
This is not how it works on television. There are several important differences between television and writing online. One is impermanence: If you read these words, its easy to come back and read them again if you wish to, whereas, on television, most commentary is transitory. Another is density: I can transmit a lot more information in writing than I can by speaking over the same period of time. (You just read the beginning of this paragraph. Now go back and read it out loud. Which was faster?) A third is constraint: If your show is one hour long, you have one hour. Thats it.
So when something inaccurate is said on television, its much harder to correct. Any on-air correction that isnt a flash in the lower third eats up programming time. In part, thats because you have to give the context for what it is that youre correcting, since its not accompanying the original story. (This is a challenge for corrections in the print newspaper, too, although there we have more space to play with.) And, then, that explanation on TV takes longer than a written one because speaking is slower than reading. Thats a lot of disincentive for on-air corrections and certainly one reason we so infrequently see them.
Thats if you want to correct your mistakes, which Fox News and Tucker Carlson very obviously dont.

DirecTV to sever ties with OAN and drop the right-wing conspiracy channel later this year
Source: CNN
New York (CNN Business)One America News, the right-wing conspiracy channel favored by former President Donald Trump, will be dropped later this year by DirecTV, a spokesperson for the television carrier said Friday evening.
The move will deal a significant blow to the fringe outlet. Not only will OAN be removed from the millions of households that use DirecTV as a television provider, it will also suffer a major hit to its revenue.
------------
In a statement, a DirecTV spokesperson told CNN, "We informed Herring Networks that, following a routine internal review, we do not plan to enter into a new contract when our current agreement expires."
Bloomberg News, which broke the story, reported that the contract expires in early April. A person familiar with the matter confirmed that date to CNN.

Now please drop Newsmax, too. And Fox.
GOP plots onslaught of Biden probes in the run-up to 2024
Source: CNN
(CNN)Members of the far right are already agitating to launch impeachment proceedings against President Joe Biden if the GOP is in power in Congress next year. Some leading Republicans want to spotlight former President Donald Trump's false claims of voter fraud. And key House and Senate Republicans are vowing to probe the security failures surrounding last year's January 6 attack on the US Capitol -- and turn the attention to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
With Republicans on the cusp of taking back the House and Senate, the GOP is plotting an onslaught of investigations into the Biden administration and promising to make the final two years of Biden's first term in office as painful as possible for Democrats in the run-up to 2024. Those headaches could come in the form of subpoenas, the possible creation of select committees and high-profile hearings on issues ranging from the origins of the coronavirus pandemic to hearing from the President's son, Hunter.
Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, the top Republican on the House Oversight Committee, said he fully anticipates that Hunter Biden will testify before the committee if Republicans are in charge.

Not a good election strategy, Republicans. This is dead news no matter how many times you flog it.

Ronnie Spector, lead singer of The Ronettes, has died.
God, this stinks. I loved her voice. "Be My Baby" is one of my favorite songs. I blast it loud when I play it. Damn, damn, damn.

Imagine how the last four years would have been so much better with Hillary
As the news of the crooked Trump administration keeps piling on, I really wonder (and miss) how much better things would have been if she'd been elected. She would have gone after Covid, for one, unlike the Orange Doofus.
Little delicacy being served at the Library of Congress
Love love love this. (I'd embed it but it appears I can't.)
