The Fly
Great post from one of my Realtor buds last night...to his younger friends
To my younger friends
Its never been like this. Ive watched pretty much every one of these since the mid-70s, and (with the possible exception of 2016) its always been about issues, ideas, iron-sharpening-iron sparring between more or less equally trained, equally tested, equally matched opponents. You may not have agreed with them, but you had some degree of respect for them because they had some degree of respect for each other, and because their ideas came from a place of thoughtfulness and love of country.
Two things:
1. Trump is a function of a scared, grasping, gasping majority that for three centuries has at least tacitly endorsed the bestial marriage of white supremacism, rugged individualism, and divinely blessed exceptionalism thats run its course, thats finally and mercifully come to the very end of its power and relevance. Part I of this horrendous epilogue was Obamas presidency. This is Part II, and it is the death throes. Its like watching lobsters when they start to realize the water is boiling. This is when the terrible truth is laid bare, and we reel, because with our own waking eyes we see the sheer anger and bitterness and ugliness of our fellow Americans, masked in rationalization and obfuscation and whataboutism. They cant accept the truth of their own depravity, so they invest themselves in, they give themselves completely over to, lies and the lying liars who lie to them. And their time is done.
2. As a whole, Americans, paradoxically, are deeply good people. We seem to learn from our mistakes. Sometimes it takes a while. And when we fall, we are strangely self-righting. In the grand history of American presidents, Trump is a blip. One or two have been more crooked than others, but this one is in a category completely by himself. As George W. Bush wisely said, There's an old saying in Tennessee I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee that says, fool me once, shame on shame on you. Fool me you can't get fooled again. I couldnt have said it better myself. (Miss you, W.)
So pleasedont lose heart. As dystopian as things may seem right now (and who knows, maybe things will get even *more* nuts in the next few months), we are going to make it. You are going to look back on this and tell your kids about how close you came to losing faith in America... and how America ended up surprising the hell out of you.
Heads up Georgia absentee voters... possible voter suppression tactic
I've been voting absentee for 20+ years and have never seen this before...possible voter suppression tactic?
You must "remove this stub before returning ballot"
AJC poll: Race for president, Senate contests in Georgia 'too close to call'
A new poll conducted for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution shows the presidential race in Georgia could not be closer, with President Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden tied in a political environment dominated by the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic as well as protests over racial inequality.
The poll pegged Trump and Biden at 47% apiece, with an additional 1% of voters backing Libertarian Jo Jorgensen. Only 4% were undecided in the survey of 1,150 likely voters, which was conducted Sept. 11-20 by the University of Georgias School of Public and International Affairs.
Georgias twin U.S. Senate races are also competitive. U.S. Sen. David Perdue (47%) and Democrat Jon Ossoff (45%) are neck-and-neck, within the polls margin of error of 4 percentage points. Libertarian Shane Hazel has 4% support, and about 5% are undecided.
The special election for U.S. Sen. Kelly Loefflers seat is still highly unsettled. Loeffler is pegged at 24%, echoing other polls that suggest shes built a slight lead. But U.S. Rep. Doug Collins, her fiercest Republican rival, and Democrat Raphael Warnock are within striking distance at roughly 20% each

Cuties review from my feminist 34 year old daughter
So I did it. I reluctantly watched #cuties hoping I wouldnt run into some child pornography or ...something..:
After watching you all argue about it online I decided to watch it myself.
My verdict: it was well written, theres a good moral and it shows how we as a society over sexualize children through media and peer pressure before they understand it. I am much more worried about how dance moms, cheer mentality and beauty pageants influence a childs misinterpretation of what sex and sexy are.
It was a coming of age movie and it is eye opening to what girls go through with the type of access they have with internet that the rest of us didnt have.
If men enjoy watching the tiny girls dance then you may need to seek therapy.
But I think it would be a very deep dive into a females psyche to look back on our own lives at that age and remember how things were for us. I never got into dance but I remember the pressure of being sexy and sex stuff was very confusing. Without proper guidance and education girls dont learn what certain things mean and what is ok treatment of their bodies. I do however think there were lots of closeups of tiny booty that is no worse than what the tiny cheer and beauty queens wear and do.
I think you all need to stop jumping on a band wagon without getting fully informed. I am very judgy and feminist about what I see on tv and movies when it comes to over sexualizing women, rape and kids... and this film was not pornographic at all and the moral was that we shouldnt be. And we should care and educate our baby girls more before they try to find out on their own.

Trouble at Stone Mountain tomorrow
Just got this text from DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency on behalf of the City of Stone Mountain: The City of Stone Mountain is anticipating and preparing for 2 opposing groups of protesters whose intentions are to demonstrate at Stone Mountain Park. Stone Mountain Park has made the decision to close the Park on this Saturday the 15th of August. While the city have little information on what to expect during this time, out of the abundance of caution we are asking the General Public to avoid the City of Stone Mountain on Saturday August 15th beginning at 4:00am to 12:00 midnight.
