LAS VEGAS — Donald J. Trump has shaken up his presidential campaign for the second time in two months, hiring a top executive from the conservative website Breitbart News and promoting a senior adviser in an effort to right his faltering campaign.
Stephen Bannon, the executive chairman of Breitbart News LLC, will become the Republican campaign’s chief executive, and Kellyanne Conway, a senior adviser and pollster for Mr. Trump and his running mate, Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana, will become the campaign manager.
Paul Manafort, the campaign chairman, will retain his title, and his deputy, Rick Gates, is expected to receive a new one.
The news, first reported by The Wall Street Journal, was confirmed early Wednesday by Ms. Conway in a brief interview, but she rejected the idea that the changes amounted to a shake-up and said that Mr. Manafort was not being diminished.
“It’s an expansion at a busy time in the final stretch of the campaign,” she said.
“We met as the ‘core four’ today,” Ms. Conway added, referring to herself, Mr. Bannon, Mr. Manafort and Mr. Gates.

The hiring of Breitbart News Chairman Steve Bannon as the Trump campaign's new CEO is beyond parody.
Bannon is "a legitimately sinister figure, a "bully," and a "dictator" who is "prone to a lot of tirades." And that's just what former employees say about him.
In other words, Donald Trump hired a version of himself.
Bannon has ruined the Breitbart News operation by running it as a Trump super-PAC full of sensationalized stories and Trump fan fiction, rather than the sharp, muscular, anti-establishment vision the late Andrew Breitbart had for the enterprise.
Donald Trump is in a room with the walls closing in.
Every week is worse than the one before it.
His deficit in crucial states like Virginia and Florida is growing. He has no campaign. He has no field offices. He is finally starting TV ads this weekend, as the Summer Olympics end.
I don't know what Kellyanne Conway can do as campaign manager. She is a skilled and respected operative and pollster, known for expertise in messaging to women.
But Trump has resisted all advice for months and he has refused to pivot to the middle, to professionalize his campaign, to grow as a candidate or to unify Republicans.
Bannon's hiring is a huge middle finger to campaign Chairman Paul Manafort. Manafort has been trying (and failing) to drag Trump out of a primary mindset into a general election where Trump will need to win 65 to 70 million votes.

Trump Leads By Only 6 in Texas
PPP's new Texas poll finds a relatively tight race, at least on the curve of recent Presidential election results in the state. Donald Trump leads with 44% to 38% for Hillary Clinton, 6% for Gary Johnson, 2% for Jill Stein, and less than half a percent (0) for Evan McMullin. In a head to head contest Trump leads Clinton 50-44 in the state, which Mitt Romney won by 16 points in 2012.
A Democratic victory in Texas this year remains a stretch but within the numbers there are signs of Democrats being positioned to become seriously competitive there in the years ahead. Trump's lead is based entirely on his holding a 63-33 advantage among seniors. With voters under 65, Clinton leads him 49-45. And when you look just specifically at voters under 45, Clinton leads Trump 60-35. Older voters are overwhelmingly responsible for the Republican advantage in Texas, and generational change is likely to help Democrats become more competitive.
A big piece of that generational change is the increasing racial diversity of the electorate in Texas. Trump has a 69/25 lead with white voters but the reason the state's so competitive overall is that among non-white voters Clinton has a 73-21 lead, including a 68-27 edge with the state's booming Hispanic population.
Clinton's unpopular in Texas, as you would expect, with a 36/59 favorability rating. But Trump's not a whole lot better off with only 40% of voters seeing him favorably to 53% with a negative opinion. The tax return issue continues to plague Trump with 64% of voters thinking he needs to release his returns to only 25% who don't think it's necessary for him to. Even Trump's supporters, by a 43/41 spread, think he should release them. Another issue that has the potential to cause Trump problems down the road is if he refuses to participate in the debates as scheduled. 77% of voters think he needs to do that to only 14% who don't think he needs to and among his own supporters there's an even stronger sentiment- 82/12- that Trump needs to participate. If Trump is stubborn about that it could cause the bottom to fall out on his support even further.
We continue to find that Trump voters overwhelmingly buy into his preemptive claims about the election being rigged. Just 19% of Trump voters grant that if Clinton wins the election it will be because she got more votes, while 71% say that it will just be because the election was rigged. More specifically 40% of Trump voters think that ACORN, which hasn't existed in years, will steal the election for Clinton to only 20% who don't think it will, and only 20% who are unsure. Some things Trump says are a step too far even for his support base though. We find that 'just' 35% of Trump supporters think Barack Obama founded ISIS, to 48% who don't think he's responsible for that.
Finally we polled on Texas secession. Overall 26% of voters would support leaving the United States to 59% who want to stay, and 15% who aren't sure either way. Among Trump voters support for secession goes up to 37%, with only 49% opposed to exiting. If you look at the Presidential race in Texas only among voters who are opposed to seceding from the United State, Clinton leads Trump 54/41. But that's offset by Trump's 72/20 advantage with the secession crowd. If Clinton is elected President this fall, the Trump voters really want out- in that case 61% say they'd support seceding from the United States, to only 29% who would stick around.

That’s a great question. From proposing a comprehensive immigration reform bill with a path to citizenship to introducing a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United I want to hit the ground running in my first 100 days—because there’s so much we have to do.
A critical part of that work is building an economy that everyone can be proud of and be a part of. We’ve come a long way since the Great Recession, but we’ve still got a lot of work to do to ensure everyone who wants to work can find a good-paying job—one that pays enough to support a family. That’s why I’ve pledged that in my first 100 days as president, we’ll make the boldest investment in good-paying jobs since World War II.
Part of our jobs plan is a major new investment in America’s infrastructure. We’ll put people to work fixing our crumbling roads and bridges, modernizing our airports and seaports, and expanding public transit to connect more communities to good-paying jobs. And I’m going to push for an infrastructure bank so that we can leverage private-sector capital to make this critical investments in our future.
We’re also going to connect all American households to high-speed, affordable broadband. A recent survey showed that 70 percent of teachers assign homework that requires students to use the internet, but 5 million of our children don’t have access to high-speed internet. So, even at their earliest ages, kids are being left out and left behind. We can’t allow that.
Next, we’re going to ensure America is the world’s first choice in production by investing in manufacturing. We’ll crack down on trade abuses to protect American businesses and workers and reject trade deals like the Trans-Pacific Partnership that don’t put U.S. job creation first. And we’ll end loopholes like inversions that reward companies for moving jobs and earnings overseas—and instead reward companies that invest in United States.
We’ll ensure America leads the world in clean energy—and clean-energy jobs—by setting bold national goals like having half a billion solar panels installed by the end of our first term and generating enough renewable energy to power every American home within ten years. And we’re going to support small businesses, which create nearly two-thirds of new American jobs and are key to our global competitiveness. That means cutting red tape, providing tax relief and simplification, expanding access to capital, and supporting innovation that will jumpstart new industries and good-paying jobs of the future.
Independent economists have said that with my plans in place, the economy would create more than 10 million new jobs by the end of my first term. Of course, none of this will be possible without cooperation from Congress. On day one, I’ll start meeting with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. I’ll do a lot of listening. And I’ll work to find common ground so that we can break through the gridlock and grow economic opportunity for all Americans.

Just weeks after she started preparing opposition research files on Donald Trump’s campaign chairman Paul Manafort last spring, Democratic National Committee consultant Alexandra Chalupa got an alarming message when she logged into her personal Yahoo email account.
“Important action required,” read a pop-up box from a Yahoo security team that is informally known as “the Paranoids.” “We strongly suspect that your account has been the target of state-sponsored actors.”

Asked about charges by Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook that “Russian state actors” hacked the DNC in order to help Trump, who has made sympathetic comments about Russian President Vladimir Putin, Manafort on Sunday dismissed the charges in multiple television interviews as “absurd” and “crazy.” The claims are “pure obfuscation on the part of the Clinton campaign,” Manafort said on ABCs “This Week.” “What they don’t want to talk about is what’s in those emails.”
In mid-June, Democratic Party suspicions about the hackers seemed to be confirmed when CrowdStrike, an outside security firm retained by the DNC, reported that it traced the hackers to two separate units linked to Russia’s security services: the FSB, Russia’s equivalent of the FBI, and GRU, the country’s military intelligence agency. The company noted strong similarities between the attack on the DNC by the suspected GRU hackers and previous cyberintrusions of unclassified systems at the White House, the State Department and the offices of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. (After discovering the data breach, a DNC security source said its cyberexperts noted that the hackers’ exfiltration of files took place “9 to 5, Moscow time.”) An FBI official confirmed that the bureau has been investigating the breach for some time, and, according to one source familiar with the matter, Director James Comey has been personally briefed.

The Washington Post reported Monday that White House officials convened a high-level security meeting last Thursday, hours before WikiLeaks began posting the emails, to review information about the DNC attack. Party officials are privately pushing the White House to publicly blame the Russians in the same way it blamed North Korea for the cyberattack on Sony and China for intrusions into U.S. companies. “The last time somebody broke into the DNC, it led to the resignation of a president,” said the Democratic Party security source, referring to the Watergate scandal. In some ways, the source insisted, the current cyberheist — what some in party circles are already calling a “21st century Watergate” — is even more sinister, the source said. “This is the Russians screwing with the integrity of our election process.”

In the hours since the New York Times uncovered millions of dollars in illegal secret cash payments made from a Vladimir Putin puppet to Donald Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, all hell has broken loose within the Trump campaign – and much of it is playing out in public for all to see. One of Trump’s top surrogates is publicly gloating over Manafort’s criminal connections, while another top Trump surrogate is publicly accusing a fellow Trump surrogate of “working for Hillary Clinton.”
The Trump campaign meltdown began late Sunday evening when the NY Times published the story exposing Manafort’s millions of dollars in hidden illegal payments from Vladimir Putin lackey Viktor Yanukovych. Corey Lewandowski, who had been Trump’s campaign manager until he was fired this spring and replaced with Manafort, tweeted out a link to the article as if to gloat about the fact that his replacement is being taken down by a corruption scandal.
Even as Corey Lewandowski was enjoying his revenge, another Trump surrogate Roger Stone got wind of it and fired back by claiming that Lewandowski was now “working for Hillary Clinton” by way of calling him a traitor. Lewandowski actually works as a commentator on CNN now, and it’s not clear what his on-air approach will be to the Manafort story, as CNN wasn’t broadcasting live news on Sunday evening while the drama was exploding.
Meanwhile Donald Trump himself has had nothing to say about the matter, but he now has several problems. There’s the fact that he may have to fire Paul Manafort due to his illegal financial connections to Russia’s Putin. There’s the fact that Corey Lewandowski appears to be so excited by the downfall of Manafort he’s no longer remaining loyal to Trump. In the hours since the New York Times uncovered millions of dollars in illegal secret cash payments made from a Vladimir Putin puppet to Donald Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, all hell has broken loose within the Trump campaign – and much of it is playing out in public for all to see. One of Trump’s top surrogates is publicly gloating over Manafort’s criminal connections, while another top Trump surrogate is publicly accusing a fellow Trump surrogate of “working for Hillary Clinton.”
The Trump campaign meltdown began late Sunday evening when the NY Times published the story exposing Manafort’s millions of dollars in hidden illegal payments from Vladimir Putin lackey Viktor Yanukovych. Corey Lewandowski, who had been Trump’s campaign manager until he was fired this spring and replaced with Manafort, tweeted out a link to the article as if to gloat about the fact that his replacement is being taken down by a corruption scandal.
Even as Corey Lewandowski was enjoying his revenge, another Trump surrogate Roger Stone got wind of it and fired back by claiming that Lewandowski was now “working for Hillary Clinton” by way of calling him a traitor. Lewandowski actually works as a commentator on CNN now, and it’s not clear what his on-air approach will be to the Manafort story, as CNN wasn’t broadcasting live news on Sunday evening while the drama was exploding.
Meanwhile Donald Trump himself has had nothing to say about the matter, but he now has several problems. There’s the fact that he may have to fire Paul Manafort due to his illegal financial connections to Russia’s Putin. There’s the fact that Corey Lewandowski appears to be so excited by the downfall of Manafort he’s no longer remaining loyal to Trump. And there’s the fact that Roger Stone is now publicly attacking Lewandowski. It all leads to the question of just who might be running Donald Trump’s campaign by the time the smoke clears tomorrow – if there is indeed anything left of his already dying campaign to salvage.

That’s a great question. From proposing a comprehensive immigration reform bill with a path to citizenship to introducing a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United I want to hit the ground running in my first 100 days—because there’s so much we have to do.
A critical part of that work is building an economy that everyone can be proud of and be a part of. We’ve come a long way since the Great Recession, but we’ve still got a lot of work to do to ensure everyone who wants to work can find a good-paying job—one that pays enough to support a family. That’s why I’ve pledged that in my first 100 days as president, we’ll make the boldest investment in good-paying jobs since World War II.
Part of our jobs plan is a major new investment in America’s infrastructure. We’ll put people to work fixing our crumbling roads and bridges, modernizing our airports and seaports, and expanding public transit to connect more communities to good-paying jobs. And I’m going to push for an infrastructure bank so that we can leverage private-sector capital to make this critical investments in our future.
We’re also going to connect all American households to high-speed, affordable broadband. A recent survey showed that 70 percent of teachers assign homework that requires students to use the internet, but 5 million of our children don’t have access to high-speed internet. So, even at their earliest ages, kids are being left out and left behind. We can’t allow that.
Next, we’re going to ensure America is the world’s first choice in production by investing in manufacturing. We’ll crack down on trade abuses to protect American businesses and workers and reject trade deals like the Trans-Pacific Partnership that don’t put U.S. job creation first. And we’ll end loopholes like inversions that reward companies for moving jobs and earnings overseas—and instead reward companies that invest in United States.
We’ll ensure America leads the world in clean energy—and clean-energy jobs—by setting bold national goals like having half a billion solar panels installed by the end of our first term and generating enough renewable energy to power every American home within ten years. And we’re going to support small businesses, which create nearly two-thirds of new American jobs and are key to our global competitiveness. That means cutting red tape, providing tax relief and simplification, expanding access to capital, and supporting innovation that will jumpstart new industries and good-paying jobs of the future.
Independent economists have said that with my plans in place, the economy would create more than 10 million new jobs by the end of my first term. Of course, none of this will be possible without cooperation from Congress. On day one, I’ll start meeting with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. I’ll do a lot of listening. And I’ll work to find common ground so that we can break through the gridlock and grow economic opportunity for all Americans.
