Guardian (UK): Mexican police arrest border agent's alleged killer in Fast and Furious case

Mexican police arrest border agent's alleged killer in Fast and Furious case

Mexican police have arrested a suspect in the killing of US border patrol agent Brian Terry, whose murder highlighted a botched federal gun-smuggling string known as Operation Fast and Furious.

Jesus Leonel Sanchez Meza is one of the five men who allegedly killed Terry in December 2010 during a shootout in Arizona near the Mexican border. One is on trial in Arizona and the other three remain fugitives. Sanchez was arrested Thursday in Sonora state.

Two guns found at the scene were bought by a member of a gun-smuggling ring that was being monitored in the Fast and Furious investigation. Critics have knocked US federal authorities for allowing informants to walk away from Phoenix-area gun shops with weapons, rather than immediately arresting suspects.

In Operation Fast and Furious and at least three earlier probes during the administration of President George W. Bush, agents in Arizona employed a risky tactic called gun-walking – allowing low-level "straw" buyers in gun-trafficking networks to leave with loads of weapons purchased at gun shops. The goal was to track the guns to major weapons traffickers and drug cartels in order to bring cases against kingpins who had long eluded prosecution under the prevailing strategy of arresting low-level purchasers of guns who were suspected of buying them for others....

The stated goal was noble enough. Trouble is, the nitwits running Fast and Furious made no provision to actually track the guns sold...

I'll ask you the same question asked of DanTex: Point out the "pro-NRA/GOP agenda posters".

And show your work (Protip: shouting and handwaving doesn't count).

I'll wager a $50 donation to the Brady Campaign that the results will be the same- "disagrees with me" = "NRA/GOP plant".

So which ones are the "NRA trolls"? Put up or shut up.

We've had to listen to your bigotry and half-baked conspiracy theories for a while now.

Name these alleged "NRA trolls", provide some *actual evidence* beyond 'they don't agree with me', or take your McCarthyite bullshit somewhere else

What The Left Won't Tell You About The Boom In U.S. Gun Sales

What The Left Won't Tell You About The Boom In U.S. Gun Sales

As gun sales surged in early 2009 the going joke among employees of gun manufacturers was that President Barack Obama was the “greatest gun salesman of all time.” The trouble with this backhanded complement, however, is Left-leaning news outlets have since used it to avoid something that really scares them.

As ABC put it, Americans are buying more Glocks and Berettas simply because they fear “a second Obama administration might restrict gun ownership.” Their reporting conveniently stops right there.

...But the thing is, the surge is gun sales didn’t begin in 2008. Over the last 10 years (from 2002 to 2011) there has been a 54.1 percent rise in the number of NICS checks and the increase hasn’t all taken place since 2008. In 2005 there were 8,952,945 NICS checks. In 2006 the number topped 10 million. In 2007 NICS checks pushed passed 11 million. In 2008 NICS checks passed 12 million, and then hit the 14 million mark in 2009. They increased slightly (4 percent) through 2011...

...Other Gallup polls are even more interesting. The number of women gun owners in America has gone up from 13 percent in 2005 to 23 percent today. Also, the number of Democratic households with firearms in their homes skyrocketed from 30 percent in 2009 to 40 percent today...

Point is, your "traditional" guns function EXACTLY the same way as the ones I posted.

Hunting every day beats the alternatives.
Every single last blessed one of them.

Mossberg's 500® pump-action shotguns offer an amazing amount of gun for an unbeatable price. The variety of stock, barrel and finish options alone would assure the place of the 500® in the hearts of outdoorsmen. But, of course, its performance in the field goes a long way in cementing its reputation with millions of hunters as well.

First and foremost, the 500® is built to the same uncompromising mil-specs as the renowned Mossberg® 590®. Then a host of features are introduced - Quiet Carry™ dual-action bars, 3" chambers and aambidextrous safety, to name a few. Some models also include factory-ported barrels; the industry's first fully-rifled slug barrel and our Trophy Slugster™. A simple change of barrel and/or choke tubes is all that's required to take one shotgun from upland birds to waterfowl, to turkey, to deer.
Slugster® Big-Game Models

To deliver the accuracy potential of modern sabot slugs, our 500® Slugster® models feature fully-rifled, ported barrels with a variety of sighting options that include an integral cantilever scope mount base, and light-gathering adjustable fiber optic and traditional Williams rifle sights.
Versatile Two-Barrel Combo Setsscope mount base, and light-gathering adjustable fiber optic and traditional Williams rifle sights.

The widest range of versatility comes from our broad selection of Mossberg® 500® Combos in 12 or 20 gauge. With its two-barrel combos, Mossberg® pioneered the idea that a shotgun can provide more than just one season of shooting and hunting enjoyment.

The 18-1/2" barreled home security shotgun becomes a hard-hitting bird gun when the 28" combo barrel is installed. For deer hunters, vent rib and fully-rifled slug barrel sets are an unbeatable value. Our patented Dual-Comb® combos add the advantage of quickly and easily changing stock dimensions between high comb for scope sighting and low comb for wingshooting. This year, we've expanded your choices to include 12- or 20-gauge Combos in Mossy Oak® New Break-Up® and a new .50 Cal. Muzzleloader/12-Gauge Slug set.

I realize you lot have been out of sorts since Jim Zumbo dumped you, but don't try and kid yourself (or us) that those 'nice' guns are in any way different than what the military uses, save for appearance.

And even appearance isn't counting for so much these days as a lot of hunters have learned to appreciate function over looks when it comes to details like stocks and finishes.

That's odd, we have nothing against your sniper rifles and combat shotguns:

M24 Sniper Weapon System

The M24 Sniper Weapon System (SWS) is the military and police version of the Remington 700 rifle, M24 being the model name assigned by the United States Army after adoption as their standard sniper rifle in 1988. The M24 is referred to as a "weapons system" because it consists of not only a rifle, but also a detachable telescopic sight and other accessories.

Perhaps someone can explain why the same wouldn't happen with guns, were certain persons and groups to get their way...

I've felt for *years* that the Northeast US would become more like the Northwest Coast

Not every area would have decreased rainfall in a GW world...
